INTRODUCTION
East Timorese Association Peterborough is a community organization formed with the base of volunteering service to help the East Timorese community and the other nationalities in Peterborough and the surrounding area.
This year the organization made a significant step moving forward, even with a very small financial. In generally, we help more than 3120 people from BAME community, refugees and migrants.
We want to thank all of our board members, parents, supporters, partners, funders, and dedicated volunteers who work hard to put our mission into action every day.
We continue to support Timorese people and other backgrounds/nationalities and bring them together to integrate within wider communities in Peterborough.
We have ideas and in the future to continue free services to the many plans providing local communities in Peterborough in 2023/2024 for public benefit.

OUR MISSION:
To uplift community integration, the educational and socio-economic status of Timorese community in Peterborough. It also aims to encourage and promote a multicultural society in Peterborough through:
a. Bringing together Timorese children/youth, students, parents and community. b. Developing the means of community integration within a wider and diverse community. c. Promoting the socio-cultural heritage and knowledge of Timor to the Peterborough community. d. Providing meaningful activities and learning experiences for whole-person development. e. Collaborating with other community groups, schools and other stakeholders to co-organize various activities
OUR VISSION:
To inspire and bring communities together To help and provide support to communities in Peterborough.
OUR HISTORY:
East Timorese Association is a non-profit community organisation designed to support the local Timorese community, tackle social isolation, bring people together and encourage community integration.
East Timorese Association Peterborough was established in February 2010 by the Timorese people in Peterborough.
OUR MOTTO:
- “Integration, Education, Empowerment – the way forward”.
Make a Difference:
During the period of 2022/2023, ETAP organised many social, culture and sports activities to bring people together, to tackling isolation, promoting integration, education and open monthly meeting for information sharing. Also, During the one year of the projects, ETAP supported BAME community, migrants, refugees, Portuguese language speaker community, Timorese community who facing with different issues, e.g.:

Helping to apply for EU Settlement Scheme and other immigration task.

Helping to apply for Universal Credit, Housing benefits, Council tax support and Council House,

application for a new job.

Helping to renew documents in the Portuguese consulate and in the East Timor Embassy.

Helping people to book to Register Office for Birth, Marriage and Death Certificate.

• Helping to book an appointment at GP’s for a new arrived.

Helping with interpreting in Portuguese and Tetum language.

Facilitating information sessions about domestic abuse, hate crime, knife crime, anti-social

behaviour, NHS, immigration issues, mental health issue, etc.

Supporting young people to build a football team and distributed equipment (sports equipment,

masks, gloves, thermometer and hand sanitiser).

Marketing or publicities all information about COVID19.

Organised a zoom meeting with local authorities, community members, East Timor Embassy in
London.
GREAT MOMENTS
BUCKINGHAM PALACE
A great honour, ETAP leader Mr Celso Oliveira was invited by the Royal Family’s to attend the event “British East and SouthEast Asian Communities in the United Kingdom”. The event held by His Majesty’s King Charles III on 1[st] Feb 2023 at Buckingham Palace, London.
GARDEN PARTY CELEBRATION
The ETAP coordinator Mr C. Oliveira and secretary Mrs Clara Jeronimo attended a major event held by Her Majesty’s LordLieutenant of Cambridgeshire Mrs Julie Spence OBE OPM on 23[rd] June 2022. On that great opportunity, both representative of Timorese community met and talked with Princess William, Princes of Wales.
PORTUGAL’s NATIONAL DAY
The ETAP coordinator Mr. Celso Oliveira was officially invited to attend a reception given by the Portuguese Embassy in London to celebrate Portugal’s National Day June 10th, 2022. On that occasion, the ETAP leader met and talked with the President of Portugal HE Mr. Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.
Overview of activities and projects: ETAP supporting 3120 people during period of April 2022 to March 2023.
Monthly meeting is a regular meeting to addressed issues in any community. Every end of the month is a Friday monthly meeting for Timorese community in Peterborough.
ETAP CUP FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT
On 19 November 2022, ETAP organized 8-a-side football tournament between communities in Peterborough. Eight teams from different nationalities and communities took part such as Portuguese, Brazilian, Timorese, Pakistani, African and Indian.
The purposes are to bring people together and to keep people fit and practice sports together.

East Timor National Day, 20[th] May 2022. Celebrate Independence Day and entertaining the community with music, dance, Conversation & sharing information.
Working visit in Peterborough by the East Timor Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs HE Mr Julião da Silva, meets with timorese community, local authority and business sector such as Morrison company.
COVID19 Support
ETAP support vulnerable people who affected by COVID19 and helped keep safe our community.
Community service is helping members of migrant communities by providing advice, support and engage with service providers, public bodies, institutions and organisations. Open days Monday-Friday from 14:00.
ETAP attended online meeting with local communities group and local authorities to discuss about migrants and refugee issues.
ETAP part of a new umbrella organisation called Consortium of Peterborough Community Groups (CPCG) to provide service widely in Peterborough for public benefits.
Hope Kitchen
ETAP provide hot meals for homeless people during the winter session.
Community members attended a new University in Peterborough (ARU) open days to encourage a new student from Timorese community start thinking about their uni choices.
Lost Love One
Assist families coping with the loss of loved ones by facilitating the registration process at the registrar's office, coordinating with the church for funeral services, and arranging for the transportation of the deceased to East Timor for a traditional burial in accordance with Timorese cultural practices.
BREAKDOWN ISOLATION was a social gathering project to Breaking Up of Loneliness by bringing many people together to build a strong community together and made big difference in the life of those who are suffering from mental health, domestic violence, and emotional stress by supporting them to rebuild their life with joy and happiness. Breakdown Isolation programme was an opportunity to help and bring them out of their house and join the positive activities by gathering for tea & coffee, cooking cultural food, music karaoke, dancing and trips.
