## **INTRODUCTION**
Praise be to God Almighty for giving His blessings to ETAP coordinator, board management, trustees and volunteers, gifts in terms of time, opportunity, ability, mind and energy, to carry out volunteer activities of helping our community in Peterborough during 2021.
After being registered as a charity in February 2021, we feel more responsible for helping our community face many challenges in Peterborough.
The organization is in a significant step toward moving forward, even with a small financial report this year.
ETAP is a community organization formed with the base of volunteering service to help the East Timorese community and the other nationalities in Peterborough and the surrounding area.
I want to thank all of our board members, parents, supporters, partners, funders, and dedicated volunteers who work hard to put our mission into action every day. We continue to support the Timorese community and bring them together to integrate into wider communities in Peterborough.
I have many ideas and plans in the future to continue providing services to the local communities in Peterborough in 2022/2023.

## **OUR MISSION**
To uplift community integration, the educational and socio-economic status of Timorese youth and the community in Peterborough. It also aims to encourage and promote a multicultural society in Peterborough through:
- a. Bringing together Timorese children/youth, students, parents and community.
- b. Developing the means of community integration within a wider and diverse community.
- c. Promoting the socio-cultural heritage and knowledge of Timor to the Peterborough community.
- d. Providing meaningful activities and learning experiences for whole-person development.
- e. Collaborating with other community groups, schools and other stakeholders to coorganize various activities

## **OUR HISTORY**
East Timorese Association is a non-profit community organisation designed to support the local Timorese community, tackle social isolation, bring people together and encourage community integration.
East Timorese Association Peterborough was established in February 2010 by the Timorese people to bring together Timorese children/youth, students, parents and the community. To encourage community integration within a wider and diverse community in Peterborough and collaborate with other community groups, schools, universities and other stakeholders to co-organise various activities. We are promoting the socio-cultural heritage and knowledge of Timor in the Peterborough community. We provide meaningful activities and learning experiences for whole-person development.

## **General Organizational Activities**
ETAP organised many social activities during the year 2021/2022, including set up women’s groups, football clubs and youth clubs. The new program is an ESOL online class language program to help people improve their language skills in conversation. During the EU Resettlement scheme, we provided support to people through information sharing, coordinating efforts to ensure no one was left out, supporting with applications.
ETAP helps more than 3000 people. We helped the BAME community, Portuguese language speakers, and the Timorese community with different issues, e.g.:
- Apply for EU Settlement Scheme
. Apply for Universal Credit
- Apply for Housing benefits and Council tax support
. Renew documents in the Portuguese consulate
. Helping to book to Register Office Death Certificate.
- Helping to book an appointment at GP’s
- Negotiate with employment Agencies
- Calling utility companies for a minimum payment
- Helping with interpreting in Portuguese and Tetum language.
. Promoting/producing a video campaign about Census and covid19 vaccination.
. Facilitating information sessions about domestic abuse, hate crime, and knife crime.
. Remove people from isolation.
. We have managed to provide 36 families received emergency food parcels.
. We have managed to call via (Video Call, What’s Up, IMO, Viber, Skype, Google Talk, Zoom, Messenger, and Microsoft Team) 254 families and individuals to check on their safety and translate the government and NHS pieces of information.
. Contacted the NHS Centre to book an appointment for the NHS COVID-19 test for 28 people and get isolation notes for those affected and submitted to included employment agencies and direct to factories.
. Supporting young people in sports with strict restrictions on Covid-19 in the local park. Distributed equipment (sports equipment, masks, gloves, thermometer and hand sanitiser).
## **Activities of the General Field**
General Field and daily activities based on volunteer work advocate 3000 people during 2021.
## **Other activities that need to report are:**
From **February to May** , ETAP helped bringing community together for census 2021 programme and made census a success across Peterborough.
In **June** , ETAP organised seaside activities and brought 85 families and children recreation to the Hunstanton sea. It helps mothers and fathers reduce their stress/anxiety because working hard every day in the factory has only a little time with family.
From **July to December 2021** , ETAP provided weekly football session for BAME people who want practices sports. The programme aims to encourage friendships, keep active and fit and be part of integration in Peterborough.
The target beneficiaries reached during 24 sessions was 528 peoples.
The project has built a strong community together by reducing isolation and loneliness. ETAP feel proud of such a good project but short term.

From **August 2021 to February 2022** , ETAP organised Zumba Sessions to help the community keep fit and active. ETAP hired professional trainers to run the sessions and delivered the courses successfully.
From **November 2021-January 2022** , ETAP organised women's activities such as flower arrangement, home decoration, arts and crafts, cooking, and recipe skills from East Timor and different communities' backgrounds.
It was to help break down isolation, improve mental wellbeing, reduce loneliness, improve language skills, allow women to meet new friends, share skills from different cultures, and encourage English conversations.
## **Sharing story:**
_Maria Ribeiro: “When I finish work and came to home I felt isolate and loneliness. I am working 12 hours a day during four days a week in flowers factory, Hungtindon. Nobody has rest time to stay with friend for some chatting. All felt tired and go sleep. But now I feel happy. I enjoyed today the flowers arrangement session. Thank you for providing this opportunity. It’s amazing”._
_Olga Antonia: “I just came from East Timor a month ago. My husband worked in the UK for 10 years. I don't speak English. I want to learn English so I can go work to help my family. When I heard there were ETAP women’s activities in PARCA I immediately joined. From here I began to get to know PARCA and registered myself to join the English class”._
From **November to December** , ETAP organised an online and face to face Creative English Programme to support migrants and refugees in learning English by supporting their functional and emotional needs. We provided this through group discussions to encourage friendships and understand the NHS services and everyday functions. The project has built a strong community together by reducing isolation and loneliness.

**Peterborough MP Paul Bristow** , who visited on 19 Abril one of ETAP programme said: “We have a strong and important East Timorese community in Peterborough". We appreciate Mr Bristow MP taking his time to visit us and learning more about our work.
## **Our Response to the Covid-19 Crisis**
We are part of the Covid19 hub organised by Peterborough City Council (PCC) and Peterborough Council for Voluntary Service (PCVS) to help people and communities affected by pandemic. We providing information and guidance support, emergency food and medications support to families in need this included interpretation and responding to questions from community members about vaccination and where to get support when isolating etc.
## **Working with Embassy of East Timor**
In **October** , ETAP helped more than 300 Timorese to register to Embassy of Timor Leste and apply for Timor passport and ID. The presence of the embassy and staff in Peterborough city made it easier for the people of East Timor in Peterborough to approach the community service.
## **Renewal documents at the Portugal Consulate**
ETAP helped many migrants who speak Portuguese language to renew their document such as passport or ID, register new born baby. More than 800 people were assisted to Portuguese Consulate during 2021.
## **What has resulted from ETAP's work in 2021:**
1. Established football clubs
2. Established a music band
3. Established Zumba Class
4. In the process of establishing a culture group for young people to learn about East Timor culture.

I hope this email finds you well.
My role with the ONS is coming to an end (my last operational day is this Wednesday, 19th May) and so I wanted to say a big 'thank you' for all of the help and support you've given to help make census a success across Peterborough.
I don't have any completion statistics as there are still some elements that are ongoing (the Census Coverage Survey is taking place at the moment, and this will be followed by the noncompliance operation throughout June). However, I have been assured that the completion rates have exceeded expectations and it has been one of the most successful censuses ever! The ONS have an 'official' thank you too which I've attached - it gives you an opportunity to stay connected by opting into future communications which will mean you receive updates on outputs etc as they are released. I've also attached the 'Census Champion' certificate which is just a small token of appreciation for all of the fantastic support that has been received. The census helpline will remain open throughout June should anyone need information, or for those who are yet to take part who may have received a non-compliance letter. The number is 0800 141 2021.
