Para 1.17 | The club is a charity that operates to patrol the beach between the Bournemouth and Poole boundary and Flaghead Chine in Poole. We are affiliated to Surf Lifesaving Great Britain (SLSGB). We provide voluntary first aid and rescue cover as well as beach and water safety advice, re-uniting lost children/people with their families/ groups and information for tourists. We work as a backup service to the RNLI Beach Rescue full- time lifeguards during weekends and bank holidays each summer. Our training and sporting activities provide fun, first aid and water safety skills for people aged 8-13 (the Nippers), 13-18 (Youth) and over 18's (Open/Masters) who not only patrol the beaches, but also compete with other clubs around the country. There are dedicated Masters competitions for the over 30's too. |

We are a local Charity that is a member of our governing body; Surf Lifesaving Great Britain. This is the National Charity that trains and supports volunteers to save life and prevent drowning in open water. Through our Club community of highly trained volunteer lifesavers, we help to make beaches safer. Our most experienced lifesavers form voluntary Beach Patrols and Inshore Rescue Boat Teams declared to the Coast Guard and |
| can assist the Police with missing person searches. Our Surf Lifesaving Clubs educate young people starting at age 8 to keep themselves safe and to help others in difficulty. Advanced open water swimming and rescue skills together with learning about and resolving risks, teamwork and knowing how to save a life are enabling, never forgotten, life changing achievements. Our Clubs is focused on lifesaving excellence open to all, across all age, gender and social networks, together enjoying the beach and the ocean. Our lifesaving community welcome all to the fitness, fun and thrill of knowing how to be at one and in total control with the elements. Everything we do is to be the best that we can for the benefit and safety of the communities that we serve. |

Para 1.18 | The Trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by The Charity Commission on public benefit in the year 2024. This can be evidenced by the number of public swim events our Club/Charity has supported with safety cover such as The Seahorse Swim and hosted the GB ranking event from which the GB squad is selected for Surf Lifesaving Competition. Our Charity has also hosted the National Championships for Surf Lifesaving Great Britain (SLSGB) our governing body at Nippers (8-13), Youth (13-18) and Masters (30+) categories. This showcases and promotes the sport of Surf Lifesaving and promotes safety at sea. Our Club/Charity has also run coaching courses to develop new trainers to successfully deliver sea competency in swimming, boarding and surf ski training inputs. The club has trained up new members with the necessary skills to perform the role as safety cover as well as maintain cohort of fully qualified Lifeguards. The Club/Charity has assisted in providing advice and assistance to a number of members of the public throughout the year on the beach and at sea. This has helped |
greatly in preventing unnecessary contact to the emergency services and preventing situations that could have turned into emergencies. The above examples seek to evidence that the Club/Charity has complied with their duty to have due regard to the commission's public benefit guidance when exercising any powers or duties to which the guidance is relevant.

Para 1.21 | The Charity returned a healthy profit of £34,605.83 in the year 2024 which when put with existing reserve funds leaves the Charity as of December 2024 £143,810 in profit. Within the profit and loss figures the key income contributors were £29,492 from membership fees, £42,973 from hosting the Nationals and £15,467 from Competition Entry. The key expense figures were £14,555 from pool hire, £16,168 from competition entry fees, and £30,505 from Nationals - other expenses which are broadly comparable to prior years. There were also Kit Purchases of £8,264.60 for the year which is significantly less than the previous year. The Charity will not be hosting the National Championships again for 2025 and so a more modest profit is expected for the next financial years. |

Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner
The charity's trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The charity’s trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144 of the Charities Act 2011 (“the Charities Act”) and that an independent examination is needed.
It is my responsibility to:

examine the accounts under section 145 of the Charities Act,

to follow the procedures laid down in the general Directions given by the Charity Commission (under section 145(5)(b) of the Charities Act, and

to state whether particular matters have come to my attention
Basis of independent examiner’s statement
My examination was carried out in accordance with general Directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from the trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a ‘true and fair’ view and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.

In connection with my examination, no material matters have come to my attention (other than that disclosed below *) which gives me cause to believe that in, any material respect:

the accounting records were not kept in accordance with section 130 of the Charities Act; or
-
the accounts did not accord with the accounting records; or
-
the accounts did not comply with the applicable requirements concerning the form and content of accounts set out in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement that the accounts give a ‘true and fair’ view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination.
I have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.

The charity is CIO registered with charity number 1193369, it has a previous charity number 1042297 from Sep-22 please see previous reports on the old charity number. In the year the Charity continued to use a full online accounting system called Zero. I focused on auditing the 2024 transactions for accuracy including a review of income and expenditure, particularly the larger items and any new items not in prior years. I reviewed the bank balances on the Charity Balance Sheet at 31 Dec 2024 showing combined balances of £143,811 to ensure they matched the bank statements at 31 Dec 2024. The balance sheet also matched into the Profit and Loss account for the prior and current year as expected. TSB Savings Account Number 07295167 listed a balance of £142,173.65 and TSB Current Account Number 00364538 listed a balance of £985.99 (both attached). I did not confirm the balance on the Paypal account of £651.34 which I note was the same as last year. My working papers include a set of the Profit & Loss account showing turnover of £131,081 and a profit for the 2024 year of £34,606 which is in line with prior years and appears to show income and costs being matched in the same year. Within the profit and loss figures the key income figures of £29,492 from membership fees, £46,278 from N-Direct and £15,468 from Competition Entry receipts were presented. The key expense figures were £16,169 Competition Entry fees, Pool Hire of £14,556 and N-Other Expenses of £30,506 which are broadly comparable to prior years. I recommend breaking down the N-Direct income and N-Other Expenses into other categories that help with an understanding of what transactions relate to, I reviewed detailed reports of these categories forming part of my working files Membership appears to continue to be strong and the club is popular, I was informed in prior years that the club has the benefit of the clubhouse by BCP at the beachfront without paying rent. I did not check the detail of charity expenditure, but I am informed by trustees (and it appears from the accounts) that no-one involved in the club e.g. trustees, volunteers, helpers gets paid any salaries or related benefits. I did not check any procedures for payments or security around bank accounts and recommend this is reviewed regularly given the challenges in our wider society around bank fraud and scams. The annual accounts show a strong profit every year and significant reserves at Dec-24 of £143,811. In the 2024 year the club hosted the 2024 National Surf Lifesaving Championships and the OceanPerf sponsored open event where many of the top clubs and athletes in the country come to compete. I did not review any planned charity expenditure or any planned capital equipment purchases for 2025 but I would suggest that this is reviewed by the trustees regularly; consideration should be given to the ongoing utilisation of the charity reserves for purchases or events in future years or consider any membership fee discounts in future years I am confident suitable records are being kept and management of income, expenditure and assets has continued through 2024 and will be demonstrated during2025 and in thepreparation of the accounts in due course. |
