The club is a charity that operates to

We provide voluntary first aid and

lifeguards during weekends and bank
holidays each summer.
Our training and sporting activities
provide fun, first aid and water safety
skills for people aged 8-13 (the
Nippers), 13-18 (Youth) and over 18's
(Open/Masters) who not only patrol
the beaches, but also compete with
other clubs around the country. There
are dedicated Masters competitions
for the over 30's too.

**Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner**
The charity's trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The charity’s trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144 of the Charities Act 2011 (“the Charities Act”) and that an independent examination is needed.
## It is my responsibility to:
- examine the accounts under section 145 of the Charities Act,
- to follow the procedures laid down in the general Directions given by the Charity Commission (under section 145(5)(b) of the Charities Act, and
- to state whether particular matters have come to my attention
**Basis of independent examiner’s statement**
My examination was carried out in accordance with general Directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from the trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a ‘true and fair’ view and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.

In connection with my examination, no material matters have come to my attention (other than that disclosed below *) which gives me cause to believe that in, any material respect:
- the accounting records were not kept in accordance with section 130 of the Charities Act; or
- the accounts did not accord with the accounting records; or
- the accounts did not comply with the applicable requirements concerning the form and content of accounts set out in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement that the accounts give a ‘true and fair’ view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination.
I have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.

The charity is now CIO registered so it has a new charity number and all the funds were received from the previous charity number 1042297 in Sep-22 please see previous reports on the old charity number.
In the year the Charity continued to use a full online accounting system called Zero. I focused on auditing the 2022 transactions for accuracy including a review of income and expenditure, particularly the larger items and any new items not in prior years.
I reviewed the bank balances on the Charity Balance Sheet at 31 Dec 2022 showing combined balances of £97,137 to ensure they matched the bank statements at 31 Dec 2022. The balance sheet also matched into the Profit and Loss account for the prior and current year as expected.
TSB Savings Account Number 07295167 listed a balance of £95,053 and TSB Current Account Number 00364538 listed a balance of £1,372 (both attached). I did not confirm the balance on the Paypal account of £711.
My working papers include a set of the Profit & Loss account showing a significant profit for the 2022 year of £38,286 which is much improved from last year and appears to show income and costs being matched in the same year.
Within the profit and loss figures the key income figures of £43,790 from membership fees, £35,309 from N-Direct and £12,484 from Competition Entry receipts were presented. Membership appears to continue to be strong and the club is popular.
The key expense figures were £12,880 Competition Entry fees, Membership charges of £13,581 and N-Other Expenses of £26,678 which although larger in size are broadly comparable to prior years. I was informed in prior years that the club has the benefit of the clubhouse at the beachfront without paying any rent. I did not check the detail of any of the charity expenditure, it appears noone involved in the club e.g. trustees, volunteers or helpers gets paid any salaries or related benefits.
The annual accounts show an increasing profit every year and significant reserves at Dec-22 of £97,137 which is significantly more than the balance at the end of prior years.
I did not review any planned charity expenditure or any planned capital equipment purchases for 2023 but I would suggest that this is reviewed by the trustees regularly; consideration should be given to the utilisation of the charity funds for any large equipment purchases, any substantial events or even potentially consider any membership fee reductions in following years
I am confident suitable records are being kept and management of income, expenditure and assets continues through the current year of 2023 and will be demonstrated in the preparation of the accounts for 2023.
