Stubbington Baptist Church is extremely grateful for the regular commitment of its many volunteers who are involved in all areas of the church activities. It is not possible to accurately estimate the number of volunteer hours provided during the year. The number of volunteers giving freely of their time remains high. Their time is given freely and willingly and does not appear in any financial accounts produced by Stubbington Baptist Church.

Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year

Wow, what a year that’s been since the last AGM.

I think we have come out of the other side smaller in numbers but still smiling and thanking God for all he has done in the life of the Church and for what is to come. We have been very grateful for the support of Jack Walker over the year, and we look forward to working with Jim Thomas as our moderator plus.

We’ve seen a lot of changes this year. Dorothy Fletcher, Malcolm Drewery and Ruth Bellamy went to be with the Lord. And as we are all very much aware, we had a lot of resignations received over the last part of 2024.

However, the Church remains a friendly, caring and pastoral church. We share time together in fellowship on Sunday mornings or in a more casual setting of the various socials and activities that take place frequently over the months. There is a lot of love and support within the fellowship of the Church.

We want to thank all the people who work together to ensure that the Church is functioning and hopefully everything works smoothly.

We remain very fortunate to have Bob Rule and David Coram ministering to us regularly and recently we have been blessed to have some visiting preachers bringing God’s word to us.

David Coram and Maureen Weeks have continued delivering the service to Ranvilles Care home every month and it is very much welcomed. We want to thank them for their service to this.

The church continues to be well maintained by John Richard’s vigilance. We are very blessed to have such a wonderful church building with good facilities. We have seen some refurbishments throughout the building and of course, the automatic door is proving to be a real bonus.

The trustees want to thank various people within the church who help with the life of the Church. We want to thank Bob Rule and David Coram for their continued support and commitment to the life of SBC. All those that lead the Sunday morning services and deliver the all-age talks. Carol Spiller for leading the music group, Lynn Coram, Ann Rule, Maureen Richards, Helen Jenkins and Michael Fletcher, for regularly being part of the music team. Douglas Fleming in his role as bookings administrator. A much-needed income for the Church! Angela Potts and Maureen Richards for their work keeping us updated and informed about various missions and needs. Jill Hill for her dedication to setting up the communion table regularly. Diane Wilson for washing all the horrible t- towels on a regular basis and for the brilliant job she does with the birthday cards. Brian Weeks, who makes sure we don’t run out of the essential supplies of tea, coffee, washing up liquid etc. All the foodies, Carol Fleming, Lynn Coram, Brian & Maureen Weeks and Jane Sephton who work tirelessly when providing food for the various socials over the months. All those that open and close the Church for the various bookings that happen. Those that clean the church on a regular basis. Kathy and Lisa Couch for their dedication in maintaining the grounds of the church. David Woodhouse, Emily Woodhouse and Lisa Couch for their work behind the desk every Sunday morning. We have been very grateful to Jack Walker who was our moderator for the year. We were very thankful for his time, support and prayers over the year and for his continued commitment to bring us God’s word on a regular basis. We do look forward to hearing him bring God’s word again to us when he is able.

We have a few of our members who are unable to be with us anymore and we are very grateful to the various members of this church who faithfully visit them on a regular basis.

With continued prayer, seeking God’s guidance throughout, we continue with His work in our community and are thankful to God for all He has done and will continue to do in this, His Church.

Reports from activities / events / mission.

BABY AND TODDLERS

This time last year we were contemplating closing Baby and Toddlers as numbers of those attending were small with an average of 4 each week, and two regular children were due to start school in September 2024. Attendance in the Summer Term increased to 7 and we felt that we should stay open.

Baby and Toddlers meets weekly during term-time. For John and myself to have a break, Douglas and Carol lead the group once a month with longstanding helpers, Mary Ware and Claire Gregory from Shoreline Church. John and I are assisted by Sally and Gary Whitehouse, Jill Hill and Christine Parrett. Occasionally others have assisted after the monthly Prayer Meeting or when we have needed help. We are extremely thankful for this partnership and teamwork.

The adults who come are mostly mothers and grandmothers, though we do occasionally have a father or grandfather attending. We have between 2 and 13 children attending each week, with an average of 7 in the Autumn Term and 7 so far this term. We have some regular families and many less frequent attendees and visitors. A few have attended other SBC activities including Messy Church, Snack ‘n Chat, Coffee and Cake, Fun Mornings and church meals.

We have a rotation of activities – red, blue and green, so that different toys come out each week including baby toys, books, puzzles, construction and large toys. In addition, we have a craft table offering colouring, painting, playdoh, chalk or craft and occasionally soft play.

Please continue to pray for Baby and Toddlers, for parents, carers and children as well as the team.

SUNDAY SCHOOL

Having lost three Christian families over recent years due to relocation, some families not returning since Covid and other children growing older, we no longer have children of Sunday School age within the church family. We have had a few on the fringe of church and occasional visitors, but a regular Sunday School class has not happened for the past year. I always come with a suitable Bible story, lesson material and activities, just in case, and try to ensure that there are activities available and person on

standby if we are away. Please pray that God will send some families to SBC. Maureen Richards Mission Report, AGM 2025 •At the Harvest Festival service donation envelopes were given out for Operation Agri. •In October/November the church filled shoeboxes for the Samaritans Purse, Operation Christmas Child Campaign. 16 shoeboxes were completed – double last year and there were also one or two done online. We have recently heard that our shoeboxes were amongst 48,000 others sent to Central Asia. •Also in October, Maureen Richards brought to our attention the plight of Anandaban hospital in Nepal, a Leprosy Mission hospital which had been devastated by a landslide. As a result, the church gave a one-off payment of £1000 to help with the repair work. A geological survey has now shown that the site is in danger of further landslides and needs to be relocated. •In January 2025 we had the International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted church, with Open Doors this year focusing on the plight of displaced Christians in Nigeria. Church attendees signed the Arise Africa petition which was sent to Open Doors to add to the many other signatories received. •In February we had the BMS World Mission Day of prayer. In our prayers we prayed for the work of 2 individual mission workers: Pastor J Lalduhawma in Cambodia and Valerie Kisaber in Uganda. •In March Gabby North from the Leprosy Mission gave a talk on her work with the Mission. Socials and regular events Coffee and cake meets on the third Thursday of the month. It continues to be successful with 15 – 20 people attending. The atmosphere is always good, and people interact well with each other. During the year we changed the time from 11am to 10.30 am which has been helpful to some people and means the event is not so rushed. Snack ‘n’ Chat is held on the first Thursday of the month, we have a variety of light lunches followed by a sweet treat and tea or coffee. Again, the atmosphere is good and much chatting is done! We usually have 18 – 23 people attending but last month we had 25. We do have people who come that don’t attend SBC we are very thankful for these people, and they are made to feel welcome, Socials – Those of you who came to the Burns Night Lunch I am sure will agree that it was very successful and enjoyed by all who came. By the time you read this we will have had lunch after the Mission Service. Coming up is Easter Lunch, Bell Ringers with a ploughman’s tea, Quiz with afternoon tea, Harvest lunch and Christmas lunch.

MESSY CHURCH AND FUN MORNINGS.

Messy Church numbers reduced sadly in September to make it unviable, so we discussed what we could do. The proposal of fun mornings evolved. We have had 3 so far, which have been attended by varying numbers.

On 20th February we held our third fun morning. We had 21 children and 25 Adults. Carol Fleming cooked Sausages with rolls which were popular, then cheesecake or jelly. It all went very well; Maureen and John Richards organised the craft and games. Maureen Weeks did a lovely talk about wind. A few other people assisted us, which was really appreciated. We currently only have a small team of helpers, so would welcome some more people to spread the load.

The next event is on Thursday 17th April with an Easter theme. We do advertise in the village and in local booklets that are distributed locally.

Cash at bank at 31/12/2024 was £129,557 in unrestricted funds, £4050 in restricted funds.

The main financial risk to the charity is loss / reduction of donations and giving from church members and attenders.

The funds are held to cover 6 months operational costs in the event of a loss of income and to meet any unforeseen expenditure that might occur. The church is also actively seeking a new minister which could involve housing costs, either mortgage or rental.
