In planning the activities for the year, the trustees have considered the Charity commission’s guidance on public benefit and the specific guidance on charities for the advancement of religion. ## **Additional details of objectives and activities (Optional information)** Stubbington Baptist Church is extremely grateful for the regular commitment of its many volunteers who are involved in all areas of the church activities. It is not possible to accurately estimate the number of volunteer hours provided during the year. The number of volunteers giving freely of their time remains high. Their time is given freely and willingly and does not appear in any financial accounts produced by Stubbington Baptist Church. March **2012** **TAR** 3 Section D Achievements and performance **Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year** During this period the world remained troubled by international conflicts. The Ukraine-Russia war was in its second year and in October hostilities broke out between Israel and Hamas. These troubles continue, with hopes for a future settlement. Jesus warned his followers that there will be wars and rumours of wars in the last days, (Matt.24:6). Regarding specific SBC events: In April we observed Good Friday on Stubbington Green, with other churches. We also had an evening celebration on Easter Saturday. In May 2023, there was the Coronation of King Charles III. There were national celebrations, and we held a celebratory church lunch. Also in May, Jack Walker, a retired Baptist Union minister, became our church Moderator. In September, due to leadership changes, John Griffith became the Pastoral Deacon. In October we met with a candidate for the role of Pastor. On November 19th he came to preach at a morning service. Although his ministry was appreciated, the Ministry Search Team felt it best not to proceed any further with the candidate. There have been changes within our congregation and membership. As well as those who have departed to be with the Lord, some have moved on and some people come more frequently. Bible Ministry: On Sundays, there were messages, mainly by members of the Leadership Team, from John’s Gospel, and we also covered topics like The Fruit of the Spirit, from Galatians 5, and The Whole Armour of God, from Ephesians 6. Presently, we are studying the Churches in Revelation. On-line (through Facebook), up to 17 people (out of 25 registered), access the service with typically 13 people watching it. Praise and Worship meetings took place on some Sunday evenings. We share in Holy Communion on the second Sunday morning and the fourth Sunday evening of the month. The Life/House Groups also have their Bible study programmes, meeting either on Tuesdays or Wednesdays, in a home or on church premises. The Church Programme: The monthly prayer meeting is held on the first Tuesday morning. The music group meets weekly for rehearsal for our Sunday worship. Messy Church, Snack ‘n’ Chat, Coffee and Cake, Sunday School, Baby and Toddlers and Mission have their own reports. Deacons/Trustees meetings take place every one to two months. There are regular Social Events for food and fellowship planned. March **2012** **TAR** 4 Section D Achievements and performance Involvement with Churches Together in Stubbington continues, with our own appointed representative from the Leadership Forum. Most volunteers are expected to be part of the Safeguarding Programme, and regular training is arranged. We are grateful for those who serve us in administration, technical support, music, catering, cleaning, gardening, welcoming, Communion preparation and Sunday and children’s ministry. We appreciate those who are involved with the care of the premises and those who aid with the hiring out of the church to other groups. ## Sunday School We have a team of three teachers and four helpers. The teachers prepare material for Sunday School each week in case any children arrive at church. If children come, then Sophie and Emily join the Sunday School class to give company and assistance. We held Sunday School regularly before Christmas 2023, but in the past two months we have only had a group on one Sunday. We continue to use material purchased from Scripture Union and reproduced on the church’s printer. ## Church Socials We try to organise a Church Social every two months. Unfortunately, we had to cancel the Beetle Drive as not enough people had signed up. ## Coffee and Cake Coffee and cake meet on the 3rd Thursday of each month at 11am. Numbers vary but usually are between 15 and 25. There is always a good atmosphere, and people are happy to chat. ## Snack ‘n’ Chat Snack ‘n’ Chat is on the 1st Thursday of each month at 12.30pm. A light lunch is served to between 20 – 24 people followed by a sweet treat with tea or coffee. We sometimes have people from Baby and Toddlers join us and have had a few people from outside. A variety of food is served and suggestions for new meals are always welcome. We can cater for special diets if we know in advance. Everyone is welcome at any of these events, if you haven’t been before, why not give it a try! ## Baby & Toddlers Baby and Toddlers meets each Tuesday afternoon in term time. We have a team of seven who run Baby and Toddlers. Maureen and John Richards, Sally and Gary Whitehurst attend each week. Two of the helpers are from Shoreline Church and have assisted with Baby and Toddlers for several years on weeks 3, 4 and 5. One helper from Stubbington Baptist Church assists on week 2. Numbers attending over the past year has remained low. Average numbers of children attending each week have dropped from 7 in Spring Term 2023 to 4 over the past three terms. Two of our regular children are due to start school in September 2024. March **2012** **TAR** 5 ## Section D Achievements and performance MESSY CHURCH REPORT Messy church meets on the 4th Thursday of each month. There are about 30 families who are sent reminders each month. Some come regularly, others now and again. Each month we seem to get a couple of new children. Some return next time, but some don’t. We need to remember that we are in competition with all the After-school clubs such as swimming and football. Actual attendance averages about 20. They all seem to enjoy the Craft and games. The Celebration has become more inter active now and suits all ages. We are so grateful to the Adults and young people that help out in any way. The Foodie team always produce a mouth-watering meal and – dessert. It is a big team effort thank you. Douglas **Section E Financial review** Cash at bank at 31/12/2023 was £78 405 in unrestricted funds. **Brief statement of the** The main financial risk to the charity is loss / reduction of donations and **charity’s policy on reserves** giving from church members and attenders. The funds are held to cover 6 months operational costs in the event of a loss of income and to meet any unforeseen expenditure that might occur.
