The trustees are pleased to report that Rainbow Community Garden has continued to advance its charitable purposes for the public benefit throughout the reporting period. In exercising their duties, the trustees confirm that they have had **due regard to the Charity Commission’s guidance on public benefit** and have ensured that all activities undertaken by the organisation demonstrably contribute to community wellbeing and support those experiencing disadvantage.

The Charity maintained an inclusive and accessible community garden for all to enjoy, while delivering a comprehensive programme of activities designed to improve health, wellbeing, and social cohesion. These included:
- **Women’s Group sessions** , addressing isolation and providing peer support for women and mothers with limited access to other services.
- **After-School Club** , offering safe and enriching activities for families during critical after-school hours.
- **Rainbow Tots (early years provision)** , developed directly in response to identified gaps in local provision for children aged 2– 5.
• **Volunteer gardening, craft sessions, DIY projects, nature activities** , and informal social opportunities open to all residents. During this year we strengthened partnerships with local organisations including Unity in Community, local schools, Family Hubs, Occupational Therapists, Hull Truck Theatre, and social prescribers. These collaborations enabled:
- Work-experience placements for young people
- Therapeutic and outdoor activities for vulnerable residents
- Access to creative, cultural, and educational opportunities
- • Broader engagement with residents who face barriers to participation.

Section D Achievements and performance
**Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year**
## **Substantial Growth in Community Engagement**
The garden experienced a major increase in public use, recording **2,805 total visits** between October 2022 and April 2025 and achieving a **64% year-on-year rise** in visitor numbers. Monthly averages rose to **116 visits in 2024–25** , demonstrating sustained and growing engagement from local residents. Nearly **45% of visitors came from the immediate HU6 area** , confirming the garden’s strengthened role as a vital local community asset.
## **Delivery of a Diverse and Responsive Programme**
The charity delivered a wide range of well-attended community programmes, including:
- **Women’s Group** , reducing isolation and supporting women and mothers facing social and financial challenges.
- **After-School Club** , providing safe, family-focused enrichment activities.
- **Rainbow Tots** , redesigned from Messy Play in direct response to community-expressed need for provision for children aged 2–5.
- **Volunteer gardening sessions, craft activities, DIY projects, allotment growing** , and nature-based activities. These programmes ensured consistent and inclusive access to meaningful activities for families, individuals, and vulnerable adults.
## **Strengthened Partnerships and Collaborative Delivery**
The charity deepened partnerships with multiple organisations, including Unity in Community, local schools, Hull Truck Theatre, Family Hubs, Occupational Therapists, and social prescribers. These collaborations allowed the charity to:
- Host work-experience placements for young people
- Deliver therapeutic and creative activities
- Support apprentices and local trainees
- Offer wider participation routes for vulnerable individuals
- This partnership-based model broadened the charity’s reach and amplified its community impact.
## **Recovery and Rebuilding After the Garden Fire**
A major achievement of the year was the charity’s response to the **June 2024 fire** , which destroyed the garden shed and essential infrastructure. Despite significant operational challenges, the charity:
- Mobilised volunteers and partner organisations to restore the site
- • Continued activities with limited shelter
- Secured funding through the National Lottery, Crowdfunder, and other sources
- Installed a **new, larger, and more secure garden building** to enhance future delivery
The charity successfully turned a crisis into an opportunity to rebuild stronger facilities for the community.
## **Delivery of Healthy Holidays Provision**
Through Hull City Council’s Healthy Holidays programme, the charity delivered well-attended summer holiday activities, supporting **85 children** in 2024, including **30 children in receipt of free school meals** . Sessions included crafts, music, outdoor play, and family yoga. Many families later re-engaged with the charity during term-time, evidencing long-term impact.
