Summary of the maln
achievoments of tho charlty
during the yèar
In March 2022, we reviewed what we achieved together in 2021.
Although we began the year with restrictions imposed due to COVID-19.
our staff conts'nued to stay in touch with members of our community
who couldn't come to the garden in person. They w8re on hand by
phone, by text, and via social media. Then we were able to reopen our
gates in March 2021. And we certainly mad8 the most of th8 following
months.
We had begun by populating our social media pages wilh gardening and
crafting Ideas, promoting engagement with our community online. We set
up a virtual 'gardening club,, providing local people wilh food-producing
plant5 and encouraging them to share photographs of their progress on
our Facebook page, with over 1000 followers and a reach of over 800
that view the page, which we have maintained throughout the year.
We received Ihe Green Flag Community Award for the 9th consecutive
year, while 2 of our amazing volunteers were shortlisted for Green Flag
Volunteer of the Year Awards and our own staff member was shortlisted
for the Employee of the Year Award. We won an award for Excellence in
Community from RHS Britsin in Bloom Yorkshire. And we were
shortlisted for a Charity Govemance Award in Ihe Improving Impact
category.
Nine plot holders regularly came in lo maintain their allotments, some
with family members. This amounted lo a total of 239.5 attendee-hours.
Many of our plot holders also volunteer their time elsewhere in the
garden. forming a vital part of our community. In addition, we supported
work experience and an internship in cooperation with a local special
school. We also hosled 2 sessions with R & R Day Service for Adults
Living with Learning Disabilities.
We welcomed 18 regular volunteers and service users, attending
sessions at the garden for a colledive lolal of 736.5 atlendee-hours.
These amazing people help us to maintain not only the garden. but also
thè communal garden we manage at the entrance lo our neighbourhood.
They get involved in litter picks and many other activities. They are the
beating heart of the Rainbow Gardens.. the reason we are all here and
the engine that keeps us going.
Last year we were able to restart our popular women's group, holding
sessions for 10 members who attended for a total of 63 altendee-hours.
We also launched a messy play session for under 5s, attended by 6
different children and 4 adults. AND we held a hugely suc￿Ssful series
of June half tem) and summer holiday activities. Our 18 Summer Craft
sessions were attended by 60 different children and 38 adult carers.
Special Events Last summer. we h81d a summer celebration event.
marking the incredible achievements of our founder, now retired from her
position as chair of the board of trustees, bul continues to inspire and
support us to continue her work in our community.
In the autumn we had a well attended Halloween crafting event, followed
by 2 litter picks at Oppy Wood a community woodland, in preparation a
remembrance day Servi￿ lead by the parish vicar. attended by local
councillors and members of our community. And in winter we had our our
annual Christmas crafting event, wher8 we made table decorations and
wrealhs from garden foliage and willow. Hosted at the local parish church
hall.

would benefit from healthy outdoor pursuits and the social
community int8raction. We will continue lo offer support and reduce
social isolation throughoul our community. W8 plan to ¢ontinue our
Womens group and After School children's group activities. These
activities will be supplemented by a programme of crafting opportunities,
school holiday activities and seasonal events, culminating in our summer
celebration event.
We plan to seek further funding to enhance our exisb'ng community
benefit by developing partnership working opportunities. to promote the
garden as a venue, and IoGally to increase fooffall, through increasing
volunteers and usage by local community groups. We wish lo again offer
sludenl work placements to local schools, to invite school groups to visit
and efflbra￿ the health and wellbeing benefits. To deliver this plan we
would wish to increase the organisational capacity by employing an
Operations Manager to Goordinate the activity.
