Income from letting averages £200 per week. The “Community Growers” project has for several years given residents the opportunity to learn how to grow their own fruit and vegetables, and to support the Community Fridge in times of plenty. Achievements and Performance
| SORP reference | ||
|---|---|---|
| Summary of the main achievements of the charity, identifying the difference the charity’s work has made to the circumstances of its beneficiaries and any wider benefits to society as a whole. |
Para 1.20 | The main achievement of the charity for the past few years has been the running of our community fridge, which began as a “waste- not want-not” project but expanded vastly during Covid-19 to reach out to many local families suffering extreme need. In doing this, we gave support to deal with other problems and helped to keep the community in touch. Subsequently this has led to grant- supported food-related workshops, skill- learning, especially encouraging young mums and single residents to expand their abilities. During the morning visits to the TCF an estimated 30/40 residents enjoy socialising at coffee mornings, craft sessions and obtain help with problems in their daily lives. We continue to encourage local groups to set up leisure activities to benefit our residents and local people generally; overall participation is approx. 50 people per week. |
| Financial Review | ||
| Review of the charity’s financial position at the end of the period |
Para 1.21 | 2022/23 is the first full year of trading as a CIO. Our income of £59K+ is augmented by the transfer of funds of £37865 from our previous charity. The majority of our normal financial activity relates to restricted funds, mainly the Townsend Community Fridge (receipts £8231, payments £6124) but our unrestricted funds of are sufficient to meet the needs of running the charity and maintaining the Community Centre itself. |
| Statement explaining the policy for holding reserves stating why they are held |
Para 1.22 | We are currently in process of taking on a lease from BCP Council. Discussions are still ongoing. We are also in process of becoming responsible for the payment of gas, which has historically been the responsibility of BCP Council. We need to make provision for other increased service costs, particularly electricity. Once the lease has been signed we wish to refurbish the toilets/washrooms and to extend our office,. For this, we hope to obtain grants but are allowing for a contribution to be requested from TCA.: The designated amounts are: Solicitors: £1000, Gas & other service increases: £4000, Contribution to refurbishment: £5000. Total: £10,000, which we have put in an interest-earning reserve account with Lloyds Bank. |

Other optional information
From April 2022 to early December 2022, we were in process of transferring our business and our funds from our old charity (1081254) to our CIO (1193325). The banking process caused long delays and uncertainty in the matter of advising clients and service providers when the new account was active and some lack of co-operation also caused delays. The final transfers took place in September and October 2022, and the old bank account was closed in December 2022.
