During Ihe perlod. the internal refurbishment of the Charity's properties during this reporting period, The works Include the refurbishment of Ihe toilet and washlng facilities at Ihe Charity, which were last renovated almost 20 years ago, to bring them up to modern standards and to accommodate the needs of the current community. including worshippers. attendees and the children that allend for Islamic and Arabic classes. Plans include installation of high-rise commodes to replace Ihe existing squal commode in the cubicles for the convenience of all. including any disabled persons attending the charity's premises. During this reporting period. phase 1 of the Wudu projecl, which included the refurbishment of female washing facilities upstairs was completed and paid for. We received £6.138.06 from fundraising lor the Wudu project during the reporting period, The total cost of phase 1 came to E14.500. The difference was paid from Masjid savings and reserves accumulated over the previous years. Phase 1 of the works included installation of 2 new toilet cubicle replacing the 1 existing cubicle. a new shower facilities replacing the one downslalrs, a sink for wudu, along with new plumbing and lighting, new windows and all-round new Liling lo walls and floor. Phase 2 of Ihe Wudu works covering the toilets downstairs and communal washing facilities for male attendees had begun but not yet completed during this aforementioned reporting period. The existing tenants residing at next-door property owned by the Charity at 79 Dale Street, Chalham. Kent ME4 6QG gave notice of lerminalion and vacaled the property on 31 March 2024. The Trustees were able to secure new tenants who signed contracts and moved in Immediately from 1 April 2024 wilhout a gap in tenancy. The Trustees took the opportunily to renew the tenancy agreement increaslng rent much closer to the local market rate. However, Ihe pricing took into consideratlon the stale of the property, As a result. the Trustees look opportunity to commence the renovation of the rental property, as necessary, lo ensure il Is fit for accommodation by the new tenants. Whilst Stiii legally quor8te wilh 3 truslees remainlng, Ihe Trust Board agreed lo elecl a new Truslee to replace the vacaled posl, consldertng the age5 and heallh condilions of the senlor Iruslees, As a result, Mr Abdul Azlm. a local secondary school leacher wlth over 20 years of leachlng experience was appointed lo Ihe Ch8rlly In hls olficlal capaclty as the Charily's Deslgnated Child Safeguardlng Officer. Abdul Azim was born Jnd brouglil up In Iho Chc)Iliam area and h8S been allendlng Ihe Charlly hls whole life, so hls character and professSon8llsm Is very well known lo the Truslees. The Trustees fLJrther slrengihened the Safeguardlng wilh the appolnlmenl of someone wllh knowledge, skills and experlence on Ihls field. We aro already seoing Improvements lo our safeguarding processes. The Charity's Trustees and chlldren's after school Arabic and Islamlc sludies lulors have all completed full Enhanced D8S records checks wllh subscrfptlon lo the ongolng update se￿Ice. pald for by Lhe Charily, Furthermore, all lulors received renewed training in Flrsl Ald, Fire Safely. Whilsl still legally quorate with 3 trustees remaining, the Trust Board agreed to elect a new Trustee to replace the vacated post. considering the ages and health conditions of the senior trustees. As a result, Mr Abdul Azim. a local secondary school teacher with over 20 years of teaching experience was appointed to Ihe Charity in his official capacity as Ihe Charity's Designated Child Safeguarding Officer. Abdul A2im was born and brought up in the Chatham area and has been attending the Charity his whole life, so his character and professionalism is very well known to the Trustees. The Trustees further strengthened the Safeguarding with Ihe appointment of someone with knowledge. skills and experience on this field. We are already seeing improvements lo oui safeguarding processes. The Charity's Trustees and children's after school Arabic and Islamic studie5 lulors have all completed full Enhanced DBS records checks with subscription lo the ongoing update service. paid for by the Charity. Furthermore, all lutors received renewed training In First Aid, Fire Safely, Health and Safety. Refresher child safeguarding training via our local unitary council is also planned. Abdul Azim has also been tasked with reviewing the Charity's Child Safeguarding Policy, to ensure it is up to date with current slandards.
