Governance and management
The charity is operated under the rules of its constitution adopted 29[th] January 2021.
Potential trustees are approached when they show a particular invested interest in the charity’s development and ongoing growth. They are then voted in at a trustee meeting by the standing trustees.
Objectives and activities
The object of the CIO is: for the public benefit within the area of Nottingham City and Nottinghamshire County up to and including Broxtowe, Gedling, Ashfield, Mansfield, Newark and Sherwood, Bassetlaw, and Rushcliffe, to promote humane behaviour towards cats by providing appropriate care, protection, treatment and security for cats which are in need of care and attention by reason of sickness, maltreatment, poor circumstances or ill usage, rehoming such cats where possible.
Public benefit statement
The Trustees confirm that they have complied with the duty in section 17 of the Charities Act 2011 to have due regard to the Charity Commission's general guidance on public benefit, 'Charities and Public Benefit'.

Mansfield Cat Rescue
Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit

Trap, neuter and rehabilitate stray and feral cats;

Provide stray and feral cats with veterinary treatment;

Rehome cats after a thorough home checking process.
Summary of the main achievements during the period

Fundraised to cover the ongoing veterinary bills;

Neutered 243 cats to prevent overpopulation and spread of disease;

Liaised with other rescues to ensure that we provide the best provision for the cats in our care (e.g. specialist rescues for specific breeds);

Continued to support our ever-growing number of convalescent cats in our care;

Rehomed 214 cats to safe homes with a promise to rehome them in the future if they are unable to continue to care for them;
-
Arranged food-drive type advertisements to ensure all of our cats are fed and that this doesn't come at a cost to our volunteers.
Support in kind
Our supporters are very dedicated to the rescue with some contributing or paying off vets bills in addition to regular donations. We heavily rely on these donations to carry out work.
Financial review

Income: £83,452;

Expenditures: £85,244;

Deficit: £1,649. This deficit is down to paying out for vet bills. This will be recouped through adoption fees, donations and fundraising.
We aim to apply for grants to ensure that in the coming year we build up a reserve using ongoing fundraising to allow us to continue to support cats in our care. We have applied to be a partner with the Pets at Home Foundation for the upcoming year to boost fundraising and support. We also halt intakes whilst in a deficit so as not to increase our financial burden.
Financial risks

Ongoing veterinary treatment for cats with an increasing level of illnesses and diseases;

Veterinary costs increasing in line with inflation;

Fundraising being challenging due to the financial economy meaning our supporters are unable to donate as much as they would previously.
The charity’s policy on reserves
The Chair and Treasurer have instigated a reserves policy of £1-3k due for monthly vets bills. The reserves policy is reviewed monthly as our cash flow is unpredictable with adoptions and donations.

Mansfield Cat Rescue
We need reserves to ensure we can continue to provide a growing service to feral and stray cats to enable them to make a full recovery before they go on to their forever homes where they will be cared for. We are currently awaiting a beneficiary payment and have recently appointed a volunteer to apply for grants on our behalf. We will continue to review this situation quarterly.

Independent examiner’s report to the trustees of Mansfield Cat Rescue for the year ended 31 January 2023
I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of Mansfield Cat Rescue (the charity) for the year ended 31 January 2023.
Responsibilities and basis of report
As the trustees of the charity you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (‘the Act’). I report in respect of my examination of the charity’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.
Independent examiner’s statement
I have completed my examination. I confirm that no matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect:

accounting records were not kept in respect of the charity as required by section 130 of the Act; or
-
the accounts do not accord with those records.
I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
