## **Governance and management**
The charity is operated under the rules of its constitution adopted 29[th] January 2021.
New trustees are suggested and voted in after a gap in skills in the (current) trustee board has been identified. New trustees could come from current volunteers or others in the community that have the skills the board is looking for. Trustees are appointed for a minimum term of 2 years.
## **Objectives and activities**
The object of the CIO is: for the public benefit within the area of Nottingham City and Nottinghamshire County up to and including Broxtowe, Gedling, Ashfield, Mansfield, Newark and Sherwood, Bassetlaw, and Rushcliffe, to promote humane behaviour towards cats by providing appropriate care, protection, treatment and security for cats which are in need of care and attention by reason of sickness, maltreatment, poor circumstances or ill usage, rehoming such cats where possible.

The Trustees confirm that they have complied with the duty in section 17 of the Charities Act 2011 to have due regard to the Charity Commission's general guidance on public benefit, 'Charities and Public Benefit'.

## **Mansfield Cat Rescue**
## **Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit**
Mansfield Cat Rescue rescues, rehabilitates, and rehomes unwanted stray and feral cats in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire. If cats are too elderly for adoption or too ill to be rehomed, they will stay within the rescue as long term foster or ‘convalescent’ cats.
The rescue tracks strays, abandoned, and unwanted cats through our various Facebook pages and alerts from the public. We also liaise with other rescues on our Nottinghamshire borders to take in cats they do not have the rescue space for. Feral colonies are identified and monitored through feeders and other information we receive so that we can assess what is best for the cats. This could be TNR (Trap Neuter Return) or rehoming to another safe location after they have been spayed/neutered.
## **Summary of the main achievements during the period**
During this financial year we rehomed 190 cats either through adoptions or feral placements with farms/small holdings for rodent duties. The rescue started as a feral 'watch' to track cat colonies that had gotten out of control with some colonies having 50+ cats. The feral work is an integral part of what our rescue does. When assessing the cats in a colony we find that not all of the cats are clinically feral. Some could be intact strays that have mixed with the general population in a colony. We work with these cats that have already been exposed to humans to get them adopted into homes. This means the cats might stay in foster for longer but they do come around and make lovely pets. We also prioritise trapping feral kittens as they are young enough to be rehabilitated to be adopted as domestic pets. Our fostering team has many feral and stray experts who have the knowledge and confidence to distinguish between strays and truly feral cats. The areas that have been worked on during this period are Huthwaite, Shirebrook, Laxton, Ollerton, and Chesterfield. TNR activities are ongoing at an industrial estate attached to Trent Barton bus station.
## **Support in kind**
Our supporters are very dedicated to the rescue with some contributing or paying off vets bills in addition to regular donations. We heavily rely on these donations to carry out work. We have also teamed up with Random Surfer Ltd. who provides our design work, printing and marketing materials free of charge when we have physical fundraisers. Random Surfer Ltd. is in the process of completing a new website for the rescue to launch in 2023.
## **Financial review**
Even though our financial position at the end of the accounting period was in surplus, the funds would have already been allocated to vets bills. The amount (£3441) was basically our reserve amount. In future years we would like to see a surplus on top of the reserve at the year end. This would require more donations, adoptions, and some grants. We have applied for Gift Aid which if approved will help us with our cash flow as well.
The major risk we face is not being able to pay our vets bills if donations were to suddenly stop or adoptions slow down. We would have to negotiate with our vets to make payments in instalments rather than paying entire invoices.

## **The charity’s policy on reserves**
The current Chair and Treasurer have instigated a reserves policy of £1-3k due for monthly vets bills. The reserves policy is reviewed monthly as our cash flow is unpredictable with adoptions and donations.

I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of Mansfield Cat Rescue (the charity) for the period 29 January 2021 to 31 January 2022.
## **Responsibilities and basis of report**
As the trustees of the charity you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (‘the Act’). I report in respect of my examination of the charity’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.
## **Independent examiner’s statement**
I have completed my examination. I confirm that no matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect:
1. accounting records were not kept in respect of the charity as required by section 130 of the Act; or
2. the accounts do not accord with those records.
I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
