families. The CIO aims to promote, raise funds
and co-ordinate the provision of a multipurpose,
wheeled sports park allowing for BMX,
Skateboarding, cycling, roller
skating/bladingand scootering.|

advancing the skatepark project for the benefit
of the community. Key efforts have included

permission.
In addition to these collaborative efforts, we
have continued our fundraising activities,
primarily through grant applications. Looking
ahead, we are preparing for a major fundraising
push that will take place once planning
permission has been granted. This will ensure
that we have the financial resources to build the
skatepark.|

Part of our role is also to raise awareness. Skateparks are often surrounded by a stigma that they are frequented by troublemakers and that it’s not a “traditional sport” and the riders can be discriminated against for this, we advocate for the clear benefits that a high quality accessible park can achieve for skateboarders, scooters, BMX and roller skaters. Our initiative aims to strengthen community connections by creating a space for a multigenerational community to come together, enjoy recreation and the benefits that provides.

the skatepark to fruition.
Additionally, we have engaged a dedicated
team of volunteers, whose commitment has
been instrumental in driving the project
forward. We have also initiated positive
discussions with supportive local
businesses, further strengthening community
engagement.
By moving the project closer to completion,
we are not only creating a vital recreational
space that will directly benefit young people
in the area, but we are also contributing to
the broader social and economic well-being
of the community. The skatepark will serve
as a safe, inclusive environment for physical
activity and social interaction, enhancing the
quality of life for residents while promoting
community cohesion and encouraging
healthier lifestyles.|
