Purposes Develop employabllity, Social and life ski118 Develop motivation and self-confidence Benefitting the economy and communitles within Wealden Creating a positive environment which transforms youth outcome Objectives and Activities Wealden Works, employability project was estsblished in May 2017, operating within the confines of Yhe Heathfield Partnership Trust,. which showed an extremety successful initial 4 years, the project had run under the auspiees of the Trusts Ltd charity status. With its initial success the staff explored the opportunity of taking the next step as an independent Charity and began the process of registering as a CIO during the period of Lockdown in 2020. In 2021 Wealden Works achieved the CIO status. Wealden Works is run by a board of 7 Trustees and supported by 2 full time members of stsff which both hold a level 3 in Education and Training and are qualified Assessors with one member holding an Intemal Quality Assessor qualification. In November they enrolled on a level 6 Diploma in Career Guidance 3nd development. Wealden works core objective is to work with those 16-24 year olds who are not in EmploiTheDt, Education or Training INEET). Wealden Works offers 10 week courses blending group work with I:1 support enabling participants to gain work experience. complete business tours, receive networking opportunities in their chosen industry and complete accredited qualificattons in their chosen field. The course also provides the social inieidLtion wilh peers and meniors and the routine and structure that is often missing from these young peoples lives. A psychotherapist skilled in counselling young people attends the centre on a voluntary basis to offer counselling sessions to 211 of Wealden Works attendees on an ongoing basis and has been working closely with Wealden Works since it was established in 2017. Wealden Works 1$ a charity providing a rural ernp1o￿ent inittative supporting vulnerable young people aged 16 24 in the Wealden area who are not in education, employment or training (NEETS). Formed in 2021 and previously known as Heathfield Works (which stsrted in 20111 we engage with the hardest to reach young people to bridge the gap between education and work We run individually tailored courses and sessions that are free to attend. During the programme, participants will receive a mtx of both personal and work skills training, gain accredited qualifications and attend work, college and apprenticeship trials, eTJ2bling participants to benefit from both bustness contacts and exposure to the world of work. Our aim is to resolve personal issues. unlock potential and support participants in achieving Iheir goals so they can move torward with their lives into work, training or further education. We focus on confidence. motivation and self-esteem and the aftercare programme ensures that support and advice continues for at least a year to ensurc long tcrn] success. Key achievements Havingiust completed the renewal of our Matrix Annual Continuous Improvement Check, we are pleased to find we have successfully passed the standards requirements for the second time running. This standard is in place to ensure that we meet the guidelines. The matrix Standard is oMry]ed by the Department for Education (DfE) and ensures the delivery of high-quality information, advice and guidance (IAG) services that enables people to reach their full potential. The Standard is delivered by the Growth Company and is applicable in all IAG settings including education, skills, employability, careers, health advice and money advice. This gives us our Matrix standard for the next 3 years, at which point we will complete a further renewal. We have just seen our I" anniversary since taking residence of our very own bespoke centre in June 2024 which has prominence in Heathfield High Street. Thank you to the opportunity provided by the Tunstall Jubilee Trust who purchased this property as an investment with the agreement of sole use to be taken by Wealden Works and all desi￿ and building works bespoke to our needs. Since opening the doors we have been oversubscribed on each course (4 courses a year) the feedback from the students regarding the design and overall feel of the center has exceeded our initial expectations, having an inviting safe place that is formal but nothing like school or college has really achieved it's overall aim. Being fortunate enough to now have a shop front with Lentral prominence within the rnain high street, we have found already that this has encouraged new supporters such as local businesses wanting to connect with us, potential volunteers and most importantly young people have also been able to access our services b)1 way of a drop in, which again has removed barriers to those who struggle with a more fonnal approach. Having our own building has allowed us to hold ￿ndraising events, we have now had 2 bingo nights which have been a lot of fun and very successful, we will be looking to hold more in the future along i¥'ith i qui7. night. Wealden Works Wealden Works is located in Heathfield and is available to all 16-24 Neets who require the support of an employability service that is free to young people within the Wealden area. There is simply no other provision in the rural stretches of our county, our initiative has stimulated young people back into progressive pathways who are now making positive contributions to society. The outline of the project is to bridge the gap between education and employment by enrolling young people who rp.gide_ in the. We.alde.n 2re.2 (he.twpen thp. 2ge.q nf1fi-?.4) whn each attend an intense 6 week group work employability course, delivered 3 days a week with an addition of a further 4 weeks offered via more intense I:1 work wherc work trials and interviews take place. Participants attend daily employability and financial workshops, career assessments, work trials and college tours. We also address other life skills such as confidence building, mental health issues, and provision of a free professional counselling service to those in need. A 12 month aftercare programme is available for each young person who has attended the course as that ongoing support is crucial to sustain success.
