CROSSES PENN COMMUNITY SPORTS TRUST
TRUSTEE REPORT TO 31 MARCH 2022
Following reports of anti -social behaviour in Crosses Penn and the Manor Gardens, it was proposed to construct two Multi Use Games Areas (MUGAs), to be sited on the underused tennis courts at Crosses Penn, as a positive distraction for those involved in the anti-social behaviour
It was agreed to set up a Charitable Trust, to be registered with the Charity Commission as a CIO (Charitable Organisation) and to be known formally at the Crosses Penn Community Sports Trust. The initial trustees would be Mike Murphy, (Chair) John Edwards (Treasurer), Eileen Shaw (Secretary) Mike Price, Dawn Carey and Amanda Charlton
An account with National Westminster Bank was opened in the Trust’s name.
After agreeing a constitution (final version adopted 14 January 2021) The Trust was entered on the Register of Charities on 25 January 2021
During this initial period, Trustees considered how to raise the necessary funds for the construction of the MUGA’s and associated lighting, the design of the two MUGA’s (taking into account the outcome of a survey conducted with the residents of Burnham and Highbridge), and researched contractors for them.
Discussions also took place with Sedgemoor District Council (owners of the underused tennis courts with a view to leasing the courts and the land on which they stood).
Donations received totalled £625 during this period and a grant of £950 was received from Burnham ad Highbridge Town Council.
In October 2021 Dawn Carey stood down as Trustee and John Edwards expressed an interest to retire, as he felt someone younger should take on the role.
