The Trustees are elected by the members. ## **2) Objectives and Management** The objects of the Charity are principally: - (1) To advance the education of the public in maritime heritage through the provision of a museum and visitor centre and associated educational activities and to advance the education of the public in the techniques and skills of maritime industry through the provision of workshops. - (2) To preserve the artefacts, documents, pictures and skills of the shipyard workers that contributed to shipbuilding in Sunderland from 1346 until 1988 when the last shipyard closed. The Trustees have paid due regard to the Charity Commission's guidance on public benefit in deciding what activities the Charity should undertake during the year. In pursuance of public benefit, the Charity hosted guided tours of its workshop, display rooms and library, as well as arranging school visits and speakers to local societies. Boatbuilding classes were run in conjunction with the local charity Heritage Skills Trust. ## **SUNDERLAND MARITIME HERITAGE** ## **TRUSTEES' ANNUAL REPORT FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 DECEMBER 2023** ## **3) Achievements and Performance** During the year, the Charity continued its restoration of MFV Willdora and work on an ex-Royal Navy Cutter and Foy Cobble. In March 2023 a 40 year veteran Sunderland Pilot Vessel MV Wearmouth, the last remaining wooden hulled pilot cutter in the UK, was acquired and transported from Penryhn North Wales to the North East Land, Sea and Air Museum where we have begun work on its restoration. While a lot has already been accomplished there is still a great deal to do and it is anticipated that its completion will be mid. 2026. ## **4) Financial Review** ## **Review of the year** The results for the year and the Charity's financial position at the end of the year are shown on the attached financial statements. ## **Reserves policy** The Trustees consider the level of reserves prudent for the Charity at this time. **2023**| |---|---| ||| ## **SUNDERLAND MARITIME HERITAGE** ## **INDEPENDENT EXAMINER'S REPORT TO THE TRUSTEES** I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of Sunderland Maritime Heritage for the year ended 31 December 2023 ## **Responsibilities and basis of report** As the charity trustees you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 ('the Act'). I report in respect of my examination of the Charity's accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act. ## **Independent examiner's statement** I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect: accounting records were not kept in respect of the Charity as required by section 130 of the Act; or the accounts do not accord with those records.
