The charity was sel up In 2021 and registered with the Charlty Commlsslcn as a CIO under the charity
reference number 1193205.

Following the successful clevelopment and le51ing of our cornrnunily empowerment model across
Burley and Harehi115 Parks In 2023, the Charity broadened its reach in 2024 to include community
green 8pa¢e$ in Hunslet, Seacroft, Slannlngley and Wortley. These green 8pace8 were prioritr'8ed
using Ihe proje¢l's selection criteria, Includlng..
I￿qUIty in access to qualty green space - three of the parts Iseacroft, Slanningley & Wortleyl had
failed the Leeds Quality Parkg a$8essmenl in the previous two years.
Supporting area¥ of high deprivation - three of the parkg (Hunslel, Seacroft & Worueyl are situated In
the 10% m￿1 deprived postcodes in Leeds.
Community appetite for change - all four parl¢s have a volunteer group dedScaled to stewarding and
improving the park lor the benefit of both nature and their neighbours.
Activity delivered across Ihegè n•ighbourhood$ was underpinned by the ¢hariW¥ four strategic
priorities for 2023-25.
1. Connect- wè wll connect communilies to their local paik.
We flrsl galned a detailed under8tandlng of the local conlexi from the lived experwnce of residents,
exploring rneanlng, barriers to enty, and new idea¥ for how green spaces could better serve
communib'es.
In 2024, our Communlty Officer, Anne, led on communlty consullatlons across the Hunslel, Seacroft,
Stsnningley and Wortley neighbourhoods. We were. once again, delighted by the response from
communrtie8, Wth 987 residents, volunteers, and cornmunily leaders contributing their insight lo the
prolect. These consultstions were co-designed with a neknrk of 40 local voluntary and community
organisalions, Including volunteer groups. Schools, lailh cenlres, charibes, sports teams, and housing
providers,
Consultations were predomlnanlly condueled out in the community across trusted venues, lo addre5S
barrier$ to partlcipallon and enyure a more incluslve process. The format of consultation sessions was
t8ilored lo audiences, for example. uslng photo aids al ESOL classe8. Methods used included
Interviews, creative aciOvitie$ al community events, School V￿rkshOpS. and recorded discussions Trmlh
residents at gardening groups, art classes, and coffee mornings.
Followng poor uptake on dig1ts18urvey8 2023, we al60 rolled out a more robu$t digital conyullallon
offer through largeled social media advertising. This approach successfully reached a broader
audience, wlh 179 residen15 Irom prlorrty poslcodes completing digital survey$.
A wealth of qualitative dat? was collected from these con¥ultations, the key themes of whlch were used
lo create a bluepdnl for the communit1$ vision for each park.
2. Mobilise- we will empoY*er communrties to bring parks to life through actlwtses and improvementg.
These blueprints prowded o mandate lor grassroots groups and volunteers to trial co-designed 8Ctlvlty,
5UPPOrted by our Community Parks Activity Grants wogramme.
In 2024. we p8rtnered with 13 grassroots groups lo ddiver community-led activity across parks in
Burley. HarehS11s. Seacrcft, and Woruey, engaging more ihan 1.200 residents wth their local green
space. Events ranged from therapeutic art sessions to guided walks, hip hop workshops, picnics, and
tree planting days.

Key outcomes from funded acliwty includt..
Residents were equipped wlh the skills, kn￿edge, and confldence to use and shape their local
green spaces moving forwards. In Burley, RETAS introdu¢6d refugee5 and asylum seekers to the city's
green spaces.
Residents Improved the physical fabric of their neighbouthoods. In Wortley, residents collects.vely
planted 500 bulb3 and 4 trees in their local park.
Gr888rools groups grew and diversified their mernber¥hip bases, supporting long-lerm viability.
Friends of Burley Park reported younger residents joining their mailing list following a Gommunily
planting day.
Residents wgra Inspired lo lake their own slrenglh8-based approach lo community building. Followng
community festival in SeaGroft, residents met with a local charity lo discuss uslng their pork Playbox
as a venue for refreshments and live muslc.
Residents conne¢led wlh their neighbours. Feedback from residents in Seacroft deemed this to be
particularly Important posl-covid.
Vdunlary and community organisalion$ successfully Irialled new a¢li¥ity that can be replicated. Hello
Hip Hop (Jeveloped a 'Park Jarn, product for children that was piloted in HaTehi11s and then replicated in
S•acroft.
Following this activity, further grants were made lo nine groups in Hunslel and Stsnningley in the
Autumn of 2024, for the dellvery of cornmunity-led 8ctlvily acros3 Springlsummer 2025. Proposed
aclivty includes rollerskaling, foolb311, Zumba, guided creative walks, litter picks, and intergeneralional
ommunity evenl8.
In addition to activity funded by the grants programme, we also supported tyvo engagement projects
through our Spacehive crowdfunding pl8tform in 2024. We partnered with Friends of Stanningley Park
lo launch the cornmunily's first lantern parade, unlling 300 residents in the park for Creative workshops
and celebrations. We al80 pJrtner•d ￿￿th Englgnd Netball lo Support SO women and girfy back into
sport in Meanwood Park.
3. Inve8t- wll bring new funding into parks.
Th18 yoar saw new investment in Leeds's communlty parkg through the generous guppjrt of truyts and
feundalion5, and our Spacehive crowdfunding plarform.
Our work in 2024 was made pojsible by the National Lottery Herttage Fund, %Mth thanky lo National
Lottery players. Our activities were also 8UPPOrted by the generous support of the National Trust, Sir
George Martin Trust, Scurrah Wainwright Charily and the Mayor's Safer Communities Fund.
Indiwdual donors from across the city supported parks athvlty through the launch of our Spacehive
Crowdfunding campaign. Three projects benefltled from the support 0188 backers, generating a 58%
increase on the charitls investment in the projects.
4. Amplrfy - wg wll place a spollighl on the important Tole parks play in building happy and healthy
communities.
In 2024, we have continued lo grasp opportunities lo work in partnership wth changemakers at all
levels lo address the impa¢t of disparity in acces5 to qualrty green Space. In the Summer, our CEO
was invited by Spacehive to present to local authority leaders across the country on the important role

parks play on the journey to net zero. Our CEO also joined the Leeds Parks & Green Spaces Forum
leadership comrnittee to share consultallon finding5, while our Communrty Officer was invf(ed to
present lo lo councilors sitting on the Inner West Community Safety & Environment comrnittee.

2024 was the second year the charity recelved funds under ils National L¢)ttery Heritsge Fund three-
year grant. In 2024 LLP did not deliver a major Blossom project for the National Trusl1£5k versus £30k
20231 and no funds lor community grants were received (Nil versus £24.5kl and thu5 income received
in the year fell to £81,93912023.. £137,757), the roll out of community grant Programrnes acioss
four parks seeing expenditure increasing to £101,32512023.' £96,958). This saw an ovefall delicil of of
£19.38612023.' surplus of £40,799).
Reserve5 policy
Love Leeds Parks re8eNe8 poIIcy 18 to hold bethen 7 and 14 wgeks of expenditure as available
unreslricled reyerves. The INStee8 consideT this amount sufficient lo allow the charity lo continue Its
core activities during a period of unforeseen difficulties and inlerruplions in lundlng. This wa8
equivalent lo holdlng befvRen £13,640 and £27,280 in available unrestricted reserve5 on 31 December
2024.
Total funds held on 31 December 2024 amounted 10 £39.256 91 ￿lCh £17,276 was restricted and
£21,980 was unre81ricted. The tru$lees are therefore 5at15fted Ih818ufflcienl unreslricled reserves afe
currently held. However, the Iru8tee8 Mll continue to review the charity's financial obligation$ on an
ongoing basis and are conscious that the charity will be subject increased commitments as the project
grows, including co$ls associated with stalulory obligations lo it$ ytaff team. The IN$lees will therefore
geek lo increase reserves over the course 01 2025 and. a8 noted telow, are working towards
8U818in8ble Income model.
Futu1• Ilnanclll uncertalnty
Thi8 year, fundraising efforts made by our CEO 88w new Ioc81 8UPPOrters inve81 in the charills
a¢tlvrtle8, ¥￿th financial support generousty given by the Sir George Martin Trust, the Scurrah
Wainwright Charity and the Mayor's Safer Communilles Fund,
Despite this new investment, the charity 18 still reliant on the Nalional Lottery Heritage Fund INLHFI to
cover most of f(5 operatin9 expenditure. In 2024, the 82% of contribytion to core costs made by the
NLHF represented over 63% of our lo181 expenditure alone.
To ensure the long-lerm financial viability of the charity, the CEO and Iru3lees are aiming to 8ecure 8
pipeline ol allernalive funding in 2025, to enable the ongoing employment of a 51aff team and the
development and delivery of charitable act￿111￿$ in 2026 and beyond.

In 2024 the charity recelved grant funding from the National Trust tolalling £5,000. Two of the
charity's tru3tees - Casey Pae Morri50n and Justin Dominic S¢ully- a￿ employed by the National
Trust. The fundg received from the National Trust are re8lricled to the charity'g'8lo$som' wojecl.
The negotiation of workg was undertaken by the CEO and was informed by the availability of
contractors al short notice wlhin the timeline of the plantr'ng season and the deadline yet by the
Blossom Campaign
In late 2023, the charity granted £1,460 lo Frlends of Burley Parf( under the Heritsge Fund
Community grant scheme. In Autumn 2024, the charlty made a pledge of £1.169 to the
Spa¢ehive Crowdfunder to be run be Frlends ol Burley Park under the We Love Leeds Parks
programme. Trustee John Preston is an acts've committee member of the Friends of 8urley Park
bul played no part In the Love Leeds Parks grant panel8 lo award these grants.
Dean Ellis¢n bec8me an employee of the National Lottery Heritage Fund in Octobèr 2024, but in
role unconnected lo the charlty's award and ils 8ub$equenl management.
