2.Short History of Lee Hub

• Hampshire County Council formal decision to close Lee Library - 28 July 2020

• Strategic Project Team formed (Residents, Local Councilors, and Business Leaders) 14 August 2020

• Lee Hub – Independent Community Library (Lee Hub) Appointment of first trustees 10 December 2020

• Lee Hub - Constitution, Charitable Objects and application to Charity Commission on 14 December 2020

• Hampshire County Council, Lee Library closed its doors on 28 December 2020

• Lee Hub - Charity Status achieved – Charitable Incorporated Organization in England Reg. No 1193198, on 22 January 2021

• Grants circa. £20,000 secured before opening.

• Tenancy at Will (Temporary lease) and keys received from Hampshire County Council 01 April 2021

• Lee Hub opened doors to the public 12 April 2021 with Covid Restrictions

• Lee Hub membership open 12 April 2021 – annual subscription donation and gift aid

• 10-Year Lease of building secured with Gosport Borough Council commenced 16 December 2021

• Community Café and Kitchen Refurbishment – February 2022 Completed June 2022 Gosport Borough Council – Covid “Restart” Grant (July 2021) - £2667

• Application for a new 26-year lease with Gosport Borough Council -entered June 2023

• £10k Grant to repair external walls received from Clothworkers Trust. Work in progress.

4.Current Charity and Library data

We currently have 9520 titles in stock. We have 415 active library members. We have 45 children registered to borrow books.

The Trustees agreed to allow children free access to the library at the January meeting.

47 books have been reserved & borrowed from Hampshire Libraries over the year April 2022-3. The cost of this service increased by 20p to £1.20 per item on 1st August 2023.

Weekly Bounce & Rhyme sessions for 0- to 2-year-olds, numbers vary between 2 and 8 children each week. In addition, we provide 2 sessions with the children from Hopscotch Nursery - about 35 children in total.

We provide a weekly Stories and Rhymes session for 2- to 5-year-olds, with Hopscotch Nursery bringing 8 to 12 children and up to 6 other families regularly attending.

We have hosted Lee Infants School’s Reception classes to hear a story about Chinese New Year and make Chinese New Year crafts.

Lee Juniors and Gomer Juniors have made 3 visits to find out about being volunteer library assistants and how our Non-Fiction books are organised.

Gomer Junior school hosted a cake and book sale to say thank you for their visit.

5.Volunteers’ data

• Current active volunteers 47 with 15 on our resting volunteer list

• An average of 15 hours a week of volunteer time provided each week.

• 47x15= 705 hours per week

• We don’t pay our volunteers, not because they are worthless; but because they are priceless!

• Saturday 11 February: Rosie Travers visited and gave a talk on her series of ‘Fiction with a twist’ locally themed novel

• Chinese New Year celebrations- February 2023

• Support from TESCO for food tasting

• 3 class visits from Lee Infant School for stories and crafts
