## _**The Lions Club of Tavistock**_ ## **– th Lions Club of Tavistock CIO Trustees Annual Report Year End 30 June 2022** The Lions Club of Tavistock was able to start to resume activities during this financial year following the covid pandemic although the early part of the year resulted in some of our usual events such as Tavistock Carnival in July not going ahead. Our first major event was the annual Fireworks Display in November, this proved to be one of our most successful with the attendance well up on previous years and the barbeque doing a roaring trade. The event produced a profit of over £4000.00 which was a record for the club. It seems that everyone was delighted to have a bit of normality back in their lives. The club had a very busy time leading up to Christmas operating a local Christmas card postal service which we took on after the Girl Guides were no longer able to run it. This was very well received by the general public who had missed the service when the guides had to stop. We had our barbeque out in the town for Dickensian Evening together with a stall in the market selling knitted toys and decorations made by one of our club member’s mother-in-law. She is blind so it amazing what she produces which gave us a profit of £533.00. We also did a bucket shake with Santa and his sleigh in attendance on the two weekends prior to Christmas. Our Trees of Light project where three Christmas Trees are erected on the front of the Town Hall with the lights sponsored in memory of a loved one continues to go from strength to strength with over £11000.00 raised this year. The club is very grateful for the support with this project given by Tavistock Town Council and also Morris Bros who cover all the costs so that every penny given goes to charity. Santa and his sleigh also visited many of the primary schools in the area and gave out over £1000.00 worth of presents to the schools. The club was also able to give out twelve Christmas hampers to families who otherwise would have gone without. In April we organised another bucket shake in the town, this time in aid of Ukraine, and through this together with gift aid and a large donation we were able to send £1747.00 to the Disasters Emergency Committee Appeal. We joined together with other organisations in the town to put on an event to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee. A Picnic in the Park was held along with a Steam Fair and although first and foremost this wasn’t a fund raising project we still managed to make over £300.00 profit. **Web:** www.tavistocklions.org.uk **Telephone:** (0345) 8334807 **Registered Charity:** 1193186 Overall for the year we were able to make financial donations to various charities and good causes amounting to £23,000.00. The club continues with many community service activities including maintaining a traffic island on one of the main roads leading into the town and organising road closures for the Remembrance Day and St George’s Day Parades as well as supporting other organisations with their events. On the admin side of the club member’s subscription covered all the dues to the International Lions Club, the multiple district and the district dues as well as covering the administration costs of the club.
