President’s Report
Lionistic Year July 2022 – June 2023

Welcomed 1 new member, sadly 2 members passed and 1 member resigned for personal reasons

Trustees held regular ongoing mee�ngs throughout the year

November 2022 saw Barclays Bank finally accep�ng all the id’s of the Trustees. CIO requirements now all in place, and the way clear for submission of Gi� Aid return

Club was represented at all the Zone mee�ngs throughout the year

2 members par�cipated in District sponsored walk at Rickmansworth

5 members a�ended District Conven�on in Stevenage

Club Quiz team won the Zone Quiz and came 5[th] in the District Finals

Moved mee�ng venue from the Sea Cadet Unit to the Weatherley Centre at the beginning of June

We closed the year with 21 members, all in good standing officially, and a great team, suppor�ng not only Biggleswade Sandy but all the local surrounding areas.
Treasurers Report July 2022 – June 2023
The annual Treasurers Report shows a year’s activity of steady as she goes. Last year’s balance was £13,844 and this year as shown in the attached file is £13,541.
The Accounts show that the Club spends as it receives with Charity account income and expenses of over £16,000.
Thanks to all members who work so hard raising monies for the Club. Finances are in a healthy position to meet any request the Club is likely to receive. The members voted unanimously to accept the accounts.
Fund Raising Report July 2022 – June 2023
Summer Fetes: we took part in 8 events including for the first time Gothic Mede School Arlesey (July ’22), Sandy Spring Market (April ’23) and Dunton Village Show (June ’23). The fetes were well supported by Club Members and total takings were £3,130. We sold 463 soft toys as Lucky Dips and 557 mugs as Lucky Mugs. Our thanks to the efforts of Lion Pauline acquiring the soft toys at various car boot sales and all those donating mugs to us, in particular Preens.
Christmas Dance: great success as always at the Weatherley Centre making a profit of £1,842 (£1,754 in ’21). The ticket price was increased by £2.50 per head for the second year running to £27.50 and the tombola was more successful with 3 tickets per pound. Christmas Collections: we did 12 tinshakes at 6 different locations taking £5,179 after Sumup commission deductions. Card payments amounted to 8% of the total which was similar to the previous year. 17 Lions and 6 Friends of Lions gave 182 man hours collecting. Rotas became slightly easier by reducing collecting hours from 8am – 6pm to 9am – 5pm on weekdays/Sat with Father Christmas appearing each day for a two hour slot.
Biggleswade Town Council: at their request we provided Father Christmas at the Christmas Light Switch-on on Friday 25[th] Nov. We were allowed to have a free of charge PR stall at the same event. In addition, we provided Father Christmas for the day at Santa’s Grotto in the Market Square on 20[th] Dec. The Council gave the Club a £100 donation.
Jumble Sale 25 March ’23: this was held at the Clifton Community Centre with total takings of £673. The Hall was provided free of charge once again by Clifton Parish Council. Easter Eggs: 20 eggs purchased from John Bull Confectioners, Bridlington with one sold at cost price to Lion Tony for his PTA. The total takings were £2,034 giving a profit of £1,422. Logo Quiz Sheets ‘22: we sold 399 quiz sheets at £1 each (except for 2 paid by BACS at £2 each). There were 3 totally correct returns and the winner of the £100 prize draw came from Exeter. The profit was £301.
The Fund Raising Chair, Lion Ivor, was praised for his efforts.
Community Service Report July 2022 – June 2023
Donations to Charities
The Club has donated £3000 to 18 charities predominantly local charities including St John’s Hospice, BDHRA & Caffe
Donations to LCIF
The Club donated approximately £1000 to LCIF in respect of international disasters - such as the Pakistan floods & Turkey earthquake.
Support for Youth in the Community
The Club has supported youth in many ways including entering 1 school in the Lions Roar programme, taking a party of 44 to the District Youth Celebration, sponsoring local Scouts to attend their International Jamboree & providing trays of new books to the local Primary schools
Hunger
The Club donated £3500 to the local foodbanks - Preens & the Need Project
The Environment
The Club has been active in recycling items in particular approximately 6000 pairs of spectacles, 100 hearing aids, all types of tools, books & jigsaws, mugs & various items classed as bric-a-brac (the latter 4 used on our stalls at fetes for fund raising) & wool We have also planted a few trees.
Other Community Activities
The provision of Message in a Bottle & Message in a Wallet through our many outlets & at fetes - purchasing 5000 more MIAWs. The purchase of Christmas presents for the children of families suffering hardship. The purchase of curtains for a mother moving from a refuge to a home of her own. Providing assistance to 5 Ukrainian & 1 Rohingyan families with transport, shopping & information. Donation to East Anglian Air Ambulance, assisting at Zone Swimming Gala, collecting on behalf of Royal British Legion & Marie Curie. The hours of community service amounted to about 3,500 man hours.
Officers
All Officers/Trustees have agreed to stand again with the switch of President and Community Service Chair. This was voted and unanimously agreed by members.
