**1[st] BLACKWATER VALLEY B-P SCOUT GROUP** **Registered Charity No. 1193176** **http://1stblackwatervalleyscouts.co.uk** ## **12[th] May 2025** ## **TRUSTEES REPORT for period 2024 to 2025** There are now six Trustees. Two of the younger leaders have been appointed, with one taking up the role of Deputy GSM with the purpose of him taking up the GSM position in due course. The Trustees have met regularly and at need in addition to participating in bi-monthly Group leader meetings. All Trustees are Scouts with four still holding warrants within the Group, and another having previously held a warrant for Beavers and Cubs in our Group for two decades. We hold a 25-year lease and our building is in community ownership (the members of the Group for the time being – all local families). We have been running for over 30 years and have seen thousands of children pass through our Group benefitting from traditional Scouting and the positive character development that results. Our 30 years of providing Traditional Scouting continues to produce “home Grown” new leaders, i.e. young adults who started with us at the age of 5 years in Beavers and have taken up warrants as leaders once they turned 18 years of age. Group leader training continues to be provided in-house apart from 1[st] Aid, Remote 1[st] Aid, and Child Protection. Our membership of the World Federation of Independent Scouts (WFIS) continues with the Group as a full member. Our Group continues membership of the Nantmor Mountain Centre in Snowdonia which provides a unique venue for Scouting activities and Leader Training. Module 2 (Upland) of the Safety on the Hills Training is booked to take place there at the end of July this year in conjunction with summer camp for Scouts and Seniors. The Group continues to own and operate a minibus whereby activities can be considered without logistical challenges. Sadly, we have been forced to sell our 56-seater coach “Mildred” which we have owned and operated for eighteen years. She was the fourth large coach that we have owned and operated. Due to financial challenges, we have not been able to sustain the privilege and benefit of such a wonderful asset. We are currently applying for grants to cover the cost of refurbishing our Scout Hut with: New canvas store, new exterior walls, new interior ceiling, new kitchen and new electrical wiring. The focus of our Scout Group continues to be safely delivering traditional Scouting to young people through an established progress and achievement programme based on the good character, self confidence and community identity aspects of training identified by the founder of the Scout movement, Sir Robert Baden-Powell, and his wife Olave Baden-Powell, founder of the Guide movement.
