Aim and Purposes
The Church Council. chaired by the minister. the Reverend Patrick Ewdns is responsible in the whole
mission of the Church. worship. learning and carin& ewdngelism and service. It is also responslbility
for developing ecumenical relations. rnanaging the property of the Church and tts finances. All of the
activiknes of the Church are conducted within the Structure, governance of the Methodist Church and
management.
In our mission... We extst to proclaim the Lord Jesus Christ, through wlb)m the people of Birkdale,
and beyond can come to know God and grow in his Love..
Structure, governance and management
The method of appointment of Church Council mernbers and reviewing those members appolnted to
specific tasks is set out in the Methodist StandSng Orders. The Church Council met 3 times during the
vear with an average attendance of 14 persons. Church Council also initiates and supports sub
commlttees that focus on specific aspects of our church life.
Worship
The Church Councll Is commltted to enablin8 as mary people as possible to worship at our church.
The Church Counol maintains an over¥iew of worship and makes su8gestion5 on how our services
can involve the many groups that use our premises Our services and worship put faith into prathce
through prayer and scripture, music and sacrament.
When planning our actfvities for the year, the minister and the Church Council considered the
Commission'5 guidance on public benefit and, in partlcular. the speclfic guidance on charities for the
advancement of ￿lIgIOn. In particular, we try to enable ordinary people to live out their faith
through= Worship and prayer: learning about the Gospel,. and developing their knowled8e and trust
n Jesus.
Learning & Carlng
At present there are 79 Methodist members. Each member is allocated a Pastoral Vlsltor who offer
spiritual support and ca￿. Many fflembeTsa￿ part offellowship groups such as the Wesley Guild
and Bible Study Group.
There were no weddings but I baptism vns held in the year. As a chtsrch we supported 4 funeral
servtces. We want our church to be open to our community. During the week the hall is used by
several groups both from church and communty persons.
Evangelism
The Church Rewiew considered ways of ewging with the local community more. It is Intended that
we develop and are able to give opportunities to such people to explore matters of faith.
Servi
Helping those in need is a demonstration of our faFth. P￿parationS were made to partner with the
charity. Compassion Acts. to open a Food Pantry. offering members of the local communtty who are
Struggling financially to ac￿55 discounted food. The Church also entered into an agreement with
Birkdale Community Hub and Library to offer its premises as a community led library. Facets is a

group for mainly retired people to spend time in each other's company whilst pursing various
interests such as music. keep fit. sport. current affairs. crafts etc.
Ecumenical Rela￿nShIpS
The Church has been part of a number of churches in the town to host a weekty ecumenical prayer
meeting, offering our premises for one month of the year. Furthermo￿. we have maintained
ecumenical relations with local Anglican Churche5 through a monthly prayer meeting, as well as
maintaining contacts with people in other churches. Currently there are no appointed Vicar's in the
th￿e Anglican churches, and it has proved difficult to fomialise any 8￿ater formal relationships at
this time.
Routine maintenance
To facilitste our mission. it is important that we maintain the fabric of the Churth and the Church Hall
premises, this has been carried out by volunteers and appropriate contractors.
Volunteers
We would like to thank all the volunteers who work so hard to make our church the lively and vibrant
community it is.
Financlal Review
Totsl receipts on unrestricted funds were £70.285
Restricted donations of £1.289 were also received and are detsiled in the Financial Ststements
• The planned giving thrO￿h envelope5 and bankerfs orders decreased. The total income, includin8
tax recovered reduced by 5% due to a redurtion in gener41 donations • £72.427 was spent to provide
the Christian minlstry from Liverpool Road Church. including the contribution to the local Clrcuit
Assessment
• There was an Increase in lettings which were £29.3￿ cornpared with £21.098 for the previous year.
The net result forthe year was a loss of £2,141
• The balances carried forward on 31st August 2023- £62.[￿ Un￿strICted funds and £5.699 in
Restricted funds
• Reserves policy
It Is the Church Council policy to maintain a balance on unrestTicted funds lif possible), which
equates to at least six months unrestricted payments. equivalent to £36.IxKI, to cover emer8ency
situations that may arise from tirne to tlme.
It Is our policy to invest our balances funds with the Central FIna￿e Board of the Methodist Church.
