## **Trustees' Annual Report For the year ended 31 March 2023** 

The trustees present their annual report and the financial statements for the year ended 31 March 2023. The financial statements have been presented in accordance with the accounting policies set out in page 6 and comply with the charity's trust deed, the Charities Act 2011 and the Statement of Recommended Practice: Accounting and Reporting by Charities 2019. 

## **Trustees of the charity** 

The directors of the charitable company are its trustees for the purposes of charity law. 

## **OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES** 

## **Objectives and aims** 

The objectives of the charity are: 

- To provide nourishing meals at affordable prices or free in cases where an individual is not in a position to pay. 

- To deliver fresh meals to vulnerable people in the local community who are housebound or have mobility issues. 

- To provide a warm, welcoming, clean and safe environment at the centre for people to socialise and avoid isolation. 

- To provide health and well being exercise classes, yoga classes, and Chai & Chat group meetings to promote health. 

## **Significant activities** 

The activities carried out by the charity include: 

- Organising religious, health & wellbeing and social programmes 

- Organising and running of the food delivery service and at the centre 

- Organising events for the community at affordable prices so they can socialise and avoid social isolation by making new friends. 

## **ACHIEVEMENT AND PERFORMANCE** 

From delivering meals on wheels during the Covid-19 lockdown, the charity has expanded its services by preparing and providing meals with the use of hall hires for catering. The chairty now offers lunch for £5 every Thursday, with members eating for free on Thursdays. 

Also, on Thursday's the charity provides 50 meals for free to the local Leicester homeless centre. 

All organised events for the communities are below the market prices of other like for like events. 

## **Charitable Donations** 

During this financial year, the management committee made charitable donations of £7,064 to UK Charities and £4,001 to Santosh Seva Trust in India. 

## **FINANCIAL REVIEW** 

## **Principal funding sources** 

The charity's sources of income arose from the following: 

- running lunch clubs for the elderly 

- running regular tiffin deliveries for elderly and vulnerable 

- running tiffin collections from the centre 

- voluntary and small donations. 

- Hall hire and catering for after funeral or events held at the centre.

## **Investment policy** 

The charity is continuously looking for opportunities to provide meals for the poor and vulnerable people. The charity wants to invest into improving the current rented premises so that it continues to have a meaningful impact in order to benefit the local community. 

## **Funding policy** 

The charity, apart from running their principal activities as mentioned above, regular fund raising activities and functions are organised to increase the revenue stream. These include religious readings to entertainment from Bollywood Music industry events. In the coming months, the charity will attempt to organise a sponsored walk to promote good health and also raise funds for the charity. The charity had applied for the national lottery for funding but the application was unfortunately not accepted. 

## **Financial Review** 

The charity income continues to remain strong. The Charity has started to create cash reserves to meet the future needs of the charity and accommodate any future downturns in income whilst it facilities for the elderly, luncheon club, etc. continues without disruptions. We now have a dedicated new charity account and the QR code for the ease for donors to make donations. 

## **FUTURE PLANS** 

On-going collaboration working in Uganda and Kenya with MaidAid UK Charity where education and meals will be provided to children in a library. The charity will also continue to contribute to the Gau Mataa, Cows Sanctuary in India where they feed the pverty-stricken children, elderly and the vulnerable widows who are given ration kits on a monthly basis. Also, continuing to capturing video footage of these events and channelling them through the Chairty's youtube channel Jalaram Sadavrat Trust Leicester UK to promote the cause. 

## **STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT** 

## **Governing document** 

The charity is an incorporated charity constituted under a trustee deed dated 4th February 2020 and the registered charity number is 1193110. 

## **Recruitment and appointment of new trustees** 

The charity is actively looking to appoint new vibrant and active trustees. Due to the pandemic and whilst forming the charity in the middle of lockdown it has been quite challenging and so far we have managed to appoint a new trustee recently. They aim to appoint two new trustees to be joining in April 2024.

I report to the chairty trustees on my examination of the accounts of the Jalaram Sadavrat Trust Leicester UK for the year ended 31 March 2023 which are set out on pages 5 to 11. 

## **Responsibilities and basis of report** 

As the charity trustees of the company and also its directors for the purposes of company law you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Companies Act 2006. 

Having satisfied myself that the accounts of the company are not required to be audited under Part 16 of the 2006 Act and are eligible for independent examination, I report in respect of my examination of your company’s accounts as carried out under section 145 of the Charities Act 2011 (‘the 2011 Act’). In carrying out my examination I have followed the Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the 2011 Act. 

## **Independent Examiner's Statement, report and opinion** 

Since your company's gross income exceeded £250,000 your examiner must be a member of a body listed in section 145 of the 2011 Act. I confirm that I am qualified to undertake the examination because I am a registered member of which is one of the listed bodies I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect: 

1. accounting records were not kept in respect of the company as required by section 386 of the 2006 Act; or 

2. the accounts do not accord with those records; or 

3. the accounts do not comply with the accounting requirements of section 396 of the 2006 Act other than any requirement that the accounts give a ‘true and fair view’ which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination; or 

I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.

## **1 Summary of significant accounting policies** 

## **Basis of preparing the financial statements** 

The financial statements of the charity, which is a public benefit entity under FRS 102, have been prepared in accordance with the Charities SORP (FRS 102) 'Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) issued in October 2019, Financial Reporting Standard 102 'The Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland' and the Charities Act 2011 and the Companies Act 2006. The financial statements have been prepared on a going concern basis under the historical cost convention. 

## **Income** 

All income is recognised in the Statement of Financial Activities once the charity has entitlement to the funds, it is probable that the income will be received and the amount can be measured reliably. 

## **Expenditure** 

Liabilities are recognised as expenditure as soon as there is a legal or constructive obligation committing the charity to that expenditure, it is probable that a transfer of economic benefits will be required in settlement and the amount of the obligation can be measured reliably. Expenditure is accounted for on an accruals basis and has been classified under headings that aggregate all cost related to the category. Where costs cannot be directly attributed to particular headings they have been allocated to activities on a basis consistent with the use of resources. 

## **Tangible fixed assets** 

Depreciation is provided at the following annual rates in order to write off each asset over its estimated useful life.

## **Stocks** 

Stocks are valued at the lower of cost and net realisable value, after making due allowance for obsolete and slow moving items. 

## **Taxation** 

The charity is exempt from tax on its charitable activities. 

## **Fund accounting** 

Unrestricted funds can be used in accordance with the charitable objectives at the discretion of the trustees. 

Restricted funds can only be used for particular restricted purposes within the objects of the charity. Restrictions arise when specified by the donor or when funds are raised for particular restricted purposes.
