It’s Time

Trustees’ Annual Report

For the year 1st January 2023 to 31[st] December 2023.

Registered charity number: 1193103

Principal address: It’s Time, 124 City Road, London, EC1V 2NX

Objectives and Activities

Relief of individuals aged 16-30 living in England and Wales who have suffered the death of a parent or parents.

Activities for the public benefit include:

Achievements and Performance

It’s Time had a successful third year of operations, with a focus on launching new services, expanding our workforce and enhancing our capabilities.

Our team doubled to two full time staff members, as we took on an Operations and Fundraising Manager in May 2023 and a Social Media/Online Community Executive in September 2023. We also welcomed two new board members and a host of volunteers across a variety of roles, including several interns.

The online community forum continued to grow, hitting 100 members by September 2023. We also launched our Tik Tok channel and a blog, both of which have been well received and continue to guide more service users to the charity alongside our existing LinkedIn and Instagram content and support.

In the spring we launched our online peer support service featuring our monthly “Meet n Grief” sessions as well as a series of online wellness events in the autumn, with our first in person event held in September 2023 in Waterstones, London. Feedback from attendees and service users has been amazing and included:

“Thank you so, so, so much. I have been struggling and this has given me the boost I needed”

“I was really nervous before joining but I felt very comfortable and supported in the session, everyone was so nice and friendly”

“Getting to hear the experiences of others going through the same thing who understand and just getting to see that you're not alone felt comforting.

Forthcoming plans

It’s Time will continue our mission to develop innovative resources and techniques with a tailored approach to supporting young people (16-30) who have experienced the loss of a parent or parents. Furthermore, helping their family, friends, educational establishments, and employers to best support their needs.

Plans for 2024 include the launch of a Community Advisory Panel, featuring 16–30-yearolds, from a breadth of backgrounds, with lived experience of parental loss. The purpose of the panel is to feed in new insights and to co-create new services and activities that supports It’s Time to ensure we remain accessible, encourage continuous growth and improvement. Broadening inputs into our services aim to ensure we are meeting the unique demands of our beneficiaries and broader community.

We are also planning to expand the peer support services with more in person events, launching in London and expanding across the UK depending on demand and needs of each community.

Plans are in motion to launch our group therapy service in January 2024, offering free online psychotherapy for members of our community, run by our Clinical Lead, psychotherapist Mandy Gosling. An advertising campaign run in December 2023 identified that demand for this service far exceeded the number of places available.

Feedback has shown that alongside our mental health and peer support young adults who have lost a parent also need practical guidance, so we are developing blogs and information sources such as an accessible guide to “death admin” as well as a series of inspiring lived experience case studies.

Finally, we will be on hand to cheer on our teams of runners in the London Landmarks Half marathon, London Marathon, and Madrid Marathon.

Financial Review

For the period ending 31 December 2023, the charity received total income of £49,228 The total expenditure incurred amounted to £58,351, resulting in a net loss for the period of £9,122.

With the expansion of our workforce to include two full time staff, as well as a push to increase our service output, expenditure increased significantly and as is the primary driver behind the small loss reported for the period. Enhanced fundraising activities are planned for 2024.

The charity’s principal sources of funds were community fundraising, events, individual donations, corporate donations, and small grants.

Donations were predominantly collected via JustGiving, which handled all additional Gift Aid contributions, with some direct donations made to the It’s Time Current Account.

Reserve Policy

It’s Time does not currently hold any dedicated reserves.

However, the first three years of operations have provided an indication of the appropriate level of reserves required to sustain operations and charitable activities moving forward. Reserves may be set accordingly in subsequent financial years, to cover between up to three-months fixed costs, to be agreed at the September 2024 AGM.

Fundraising Review

We are enormously grateful to all of our fundraisers, supporters, and volunteers for the incredible work that they do to enable It’s Time to continue to offer free support, information and a community for 16-30-year-olds who have lost a parent/s.

With the push on launching various platforms and expanding our team and service offering, 2023 saw a reduced number of dedicated fundraising events organised by It’s Time. However, the year featured standout events and achievements from our supporters and Trustees, including five runners who took part in the London Landmarks Half Marathon. Fundraising efforts also included our ‘walk in memory’ event and participants in the London Marathon, triathlons, and other running events.

Structure, Governance and Management

The trustees have complied with the duty in section 4 of the Charities Act 2006 to have due regard to the public benefit guidance published by the Charity Commission.

It’s Time maintains and complies with a thorough safeguarding policy, as well as the fundraising code of practice and relevant standards.

We ensure that all trustees, employees, interns, volunteers, and third-party supplies are aware of and adhere to these policies, to protect vulnerable people, our community, supporters, and the reputation of our charity.

It’s Time operates as a CIO and is controlled by its constitution governing document. The trustees will continue to maintain governance standards in order to improve transparency and accountability.

Accrue Financial Limited

The Trustees It’s Time 32 Bemish Road London SW15 1DG

16[th] October 2024

To The Trustees,

Accounts for the Period Ended 31[st] December 2023 Charity Number: 1193103

As requested I have conducted an Independent Examination of the Accounting Records of the Charity known as It’s Time for the above dated period.

Based on the information and documents provided to me I believe the records represent a true and fair view of the Charity’s financial position at that date and as such I have prepared SOFA Accounts using that information for presentation to The Trustees.

Yours sincerely

Jennie Clarke M.A.A.T. Director
