Koinonia REPORT OF THE TRusfEES YEAR END 31sf MARCH 2025 AIM AND PURPOSES The purposes of the Church are as ststed in the governing documents which include the advancement of the Christian faith in accordan with the Basis of Faith. Other charitsble purposes include the prevention and relief of need. hardship and sickness- the advancement of education,. and the provision of facilities in the interest of social welfrdre for the recreation and other leisure time occupation of individuals who have need of such facilttres by reason of their youth, age. infirmity or disability, financial hardship or social circumstances with the object of improving their condriion5 of life. OBJEcnvES AND AcnvmES The objectives of the Church are to glorify God through worship: the building up of members in spiritual understanding and maturity through Biblical teaching- the spreading of the Gospel- and acts of service to others. Thi5 is achieved mainly through our Sunday services and midweek meettngs. ACHIEVEMENTS AND PERFORMANCE The Church has maintained an online presence via YouTube, which continues to prove beneficial. This allows older and infim) members of the Church to engage in the service. It also provides a platform for reaching out into the local, and frequently wider. communitres. There has continued to be steady growth numerically with morning services regular exceeding IQK) and evening Services often exceeding 60 attendees, including a noticeable greater ethnic diversity. Our kids and youth work has remained strong with a great team who serve people of all different levels of understanding. There were also several baptisms and child dedications during the year. The meetings for teenagers and those in their twenties, which include Bible teaching and social activtkne5, have also seen a rise in numbers. We are currently running a .321 Course" aimed at explaining the basics of the Christian faith for those seeking to know more, which has been regarded as helpful by those who regularly attend. The Church has a150 introduced a new"Koinonia Explore(r course helping to answers questions about the belief5 and practi5 of the Church and helping to integrate those who
Koinonia attend into membership of the Church. This course has already proved helpful and resulted in new members. Practical support to members of the Church as well as the local community has continued where possible. CHURCH MANSE The Church manse was rented during the year by a family that Wds supportin8 a member of the Church. PASTORAL CARE Pastordl care is met through variou5 channels including pastoral visits and midweek fellowship meetin8S. We have also had social events and Church meals in order that those attending the church get to know one another better. helping to facilitate pastoral tare. This has proved very beneficial. especially to those who are new to the church. The Church is also in the pmcess of forming a new Pastoral Care Team. to help coordinate and provide care to for the growing number of people connected to the Church. LOCAL COMMUNITY AND OUTREACH INMATIVES This year we held another Children's Holiday Club in August which proved very popular. We had children from the local community attend aswell as some who a already part ofthe Church. Attendance was limited to 50 children per day which was fvlly met. The following Sunday we held a family service to encourage the parents to come along. At Christmas we joined the residents at a local retirement housing complex to sing Christmas carols which was warmly received. We also distributed over l(KK) Christma5 cards to our local housing estate. inviting people to our Christmas services and Christianity Explored course. MISSION AND EVANGELISM Our regular Sunday services remain the week-by-week place where anyone can come to learn more about the Christian faith and experience the difference it makes. We continue to hold special services throughout the year aimed at proTnoting the Christian Gospel including Easter and Christmas. In addition, the Church aims to equip the member5 of the Church to be able to share their faith clearly and relevantly with others. We held a day long Creation conferen in conjunction with the organisation Answers in Genesis. This was aimed at
Koinonia promoting the scientific evidence for the Bible and included talks from emlnent Christian scientists. We continue to support overseas mission work intluding in Malawi. Ghana. Australia and Indonesia. LEADERSHIP As planned the Senior Pastor retired at the end of the year. and the former psociate Pastor succeeded him as the new Senior Pastor. Whilst a process was conducted for a potentlal new A55iStant/Associate Pastor to work alongside theffl was made, it did not result in a someone being employed to the role at the end of it. The Church howeverwas able to add a new Lay Elder during the year. It 15 the intention of the Elders to attively look for additional staff members during the upcoming year. RESERVES POUCY Koinonia Evangelical Church operdtes a reserve fund. setting aside o minimum 12 months expenditure for use as reserves. Koinonia NOTES TO THE ACCOUNTS l. Accounting Policies Accountin Convention The financial statements have been prepared as a Receipts and Payments in accordance with section 131 of the Chartknes Act 2011 Income Resources All income resources are included in the Statement of Receipts and Payments when the church is entided to the income. and the amountcan be quantified with reasonable accuracv. Resources Ex ended Liabilities are recognised as resources expended when there is a legal or constructtve obligation committing the Charity to expenditure. Goin Concern Trustees are confident that the Chartty has sufficient reserves to continue operations and continue to use the going concern basis as appropriate in the preparation of these accounts. 2. Trustee Remunerations and Expenses Stephen Wicks is employed by the Chatwiy as Senior Pastor and during the financial year received remunerdtion of £36.295.98. including a IO% wage increase commensurate with his promotion to Senior Pastor. Don Olden fetired on 31" December 2024, which is why the total expenditure on staff is lower than last year. 3. Reseryes Policy The Trustees wish to operate a reserve fund. sethng aside a minimum 12 month's expenditure. The Trustees consider reserves at this level will ensure that, in the event of a significant drop in fundin& they will be able to continue the church's current activities while consideration is given to ways in which additional fijnds may be rd15ed. 4. Investment Policv Finances of the Charity are deposited with a recognised financial institution. National Westminster Bank. Koinonia seeks to obtain the highest possible return consistent with a cautious attitude to risks and short-terffl availability or monies. 5. Depreciation Depreciation has not been provided on the Manse, in the opinion of the Trustees, the residual value of the asset is not less than the original cost price or insurance value. 6. Staff The numberof employees during the period was 2 but redUd to l in Q4. Senior Pastor Don Olden retired on 31st December 2024 and was replaced in this role by Stephen Wicks. io
