Koinonia REPORT OF THE TRUSTEES YEAR ENDED 31" MARCH 2024 Aim and purposes The purposes of the Church are as stated in the governing documents which include, the advancement of the Christian faith in accordance with the Basis of Faith. Other charitable purposes includingthe prevention and relief of need, hardship and sickness; the advancement of education and the provision of facilities in the interests of social welfare for recreation or other leisure time occupation of individuals who have need of such facilities by reason of their youth, age infirmity or disability, financial hardship or Social circumstances with the object of improving their conditions of life. Objectives and activities The objectives of the Fellowship are to glorify God through worship, the building up of members in spiritual understanding and maturity through Biblical teaching, the spreading of the Gospel and acts of service to others. This is achieved mainly through our Sunday setvices and midweek meetings. Achievements and performance The Church has maintained an online presence via YouTube and Facebook which continues to prove beneficial. This allows older and often infirm members of the Fellowship to engage in services. It also provides a platfomi for reaching out into the local, and frequently wider, communities. There has continued to be steady growth numerically with morning services regularly exceeding 100 and evening services often exceeding 60 attendees. Our youth work has also grown with an increase in numbers for our Sunday School and other children's artivities. The meetings for the teenagers, which include Bible teaching and social activities, have also seen a rise in numbers. We have recently held a "Christianity Explored" course aimed at explaining the basics of the Christian faith to those seeking to know more. This was well attended and was regarded as very helpful by those attending.
Koinonia Practical support to members of the Fellowship as well as the local community has continued where possible. Church Manse The manse has been rented out to a married couple who attend the church, and this has provided us with a regular income. It will become vacant later this year and it is likely that it will be required should we employ an Assistant Pastor. Pastoral care Pastoral care is met through various channels including pastoral visits and midweek fellowship meetings. We have also had social events and Fellowship meals in order that those attending the church get to know one another better. This has proved very beneficial, especially to those who are new to the church. Local community and Outreach initiatives This year we held another Children's Holiday Club in August which proved very popular. We had children from the local community attend as well as some who are already at the Fellowship. Attendance was limited to 50 children per day which was fully met. On the following Sunday we held a special family service to encourage the parents to come along which was very well attended. At Christmas we joined the residents at a local retirement housing complex to sing Christmas carols. We also distributed over l(XIO Christmas cards to our local housing estate, inviting people to our Christmas services. Mission and Evangelism We continue to hold special services throughout the year aimed at promoting the Christian Gospel including Easter and Christmas. We held a day long Creation Conference in conjunction with the Christian organisation Answers in Genesis. This was aimed at promoting the scientific evidence for the Bible and included talks from eminent Christian scientists. We plan to run another such day later this year.
Koinonia We continue to support overseas mission work including in Malawi, Ghana, Australia and Indonesia. Leadership We have recently employed a full time Associate Pastor as the needs of the Fellowship have grown considerably. The current Senior Pastor is due to retire later this year and we are looking for a full-time Assistant Pastor to join the leadership team. We are also planning to increase the number of lay Elders. Reserves Policy Koinonia Evangelical Church operates a reserve fund, setting aside a minimum 12 months expenditure for use as reserves. Respective responsibillties of trustees and examiner The charitvs trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The charitS trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year and that an independent examination is needed. It is my responsibility to- Examine the accounts . To follow the procedures laid down in the Direction5 given by the Charity Commission lunder section 145151 Ibl of the 2011 Act and; To state whether particular matters have come to my attention. Basis of independent examinerfs report My examination was carried out in accordance with the Directions given by the Charity Commission (Directions and guidance for examiners CC321. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusu31 items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently I do not express an audit opinion on the view given by the accounts. Independent Examinerfs statement In connection with my examination. no matter has come to my attention: l. Which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the requirements o To keep accounting records in accordance with section 130 of the 2011 Act,. and o To prepare accounts which accord th the accounting records and comply with the accounting requirements of the 2011 Act; have not been met; or 2. To which in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached. Accounting Policies 1.1 Accountin Convention The financial statements have been prepared as a Receipts and Payments in accordance with 5ertion 133 of the Charitie5 Act 2011. 1.2 Income ReSoUrS All income resources are included in the statement of Statement of Receipts and Payments when the church is entitled to the income and the amount can be quantified with reasonable èccuracy. 1.3 Resources Ex ended Liabilities are recognised as resour$ expended when there is a legal or constructive obligation committing the Charity to expenditure. 1.4 Goin Conrn Trustees are confident that the Charity has sufficient reserves to continue operation5 and continue to use the going cOnrn basis as appropriate in the preparation of these accounts. 2. Trustee Remuneration and Expenses Don Olden and Stephen Wicks are employed bythe Charityas Senior Pastor and Associate Pastor, and during the financial year reiVed remuneration of £43495. 3. Rr¥e5 Policy The trustees wish to operate a reserve fund. setting aside a minimum 12 month's expenditure. The Trustees consider reserves at this level will ensure that, in the event of a significant drop in funding, they will be able to continue the church's urrent activities while consideration is given to ways in which additional *unds may be raised. 4. Investment Policy Finances of the Chartty are deposited with a recognised financial institution, National Westminster Bank. Koinonia seeks to obtain the highest possible return consistent with a cautious attitude to risks and short-tenn availability or monies. 5. Depreclatlon Depreciation has not been provided on the Manse. in the opinion of the trustees, the residual value of the asset is not less than the original cost price or insurance value. io
