The main objective of TEV UK is to provide access to high quality education for young Turks who are academically talented but are in need of financial support. This financial support enables them to pursue their studies at undergraduate institutions in Türkiye, as well as graduate studies at selective educational institutions in the UK. Our beneficiaries are young Turkish people. By supporting students in this way, we hope to improve the quality of education.

BOARD OF TRUSTEES

ERGUN ÖZEN, CHAIR OF TRUSTEES

Ergun Özen was born and raised in Türkiye, studied in the United States, and led a successful career in the banking sector in Istanbul. In his leadership position, he became a strong advocate for the cultural and educational organisations within Türkiye. Özen retired in 2015 and moved to - London, where he continues to nourish and inspire a forward thinking relationship between his homeland and the UK. As a mentor to many and a father of two young adults, he knows how important it is to have opportunities for further education.

ŞULE ARINÇ, TRUSTEE AND HEAD OF DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE

Born and raised in Istanbul, Şule Arınç graduated from Bosphorus University with a BA degree in Economics, followed by a successful career in finance in various European banks. After moving to - London in 2004 she founded her interior design company, Atelier T delight Interiors. As a woman - who grew up in a patriarchal society and worked many years in a male dominated finance world, Arınç thinks providing equal opportunities to both boys and girls alike, is the key to future enlightenment as a society. She believes that TEV UK can thrive in providing the merit - based access to world class education for Turkish students and in empowering them to be successful in an ever - changing world. She has always been passionate about giving back to her beloved country and TEV UK is the ideal conduit to achieve this dream on a global scale. Arınç is married and a mother of three.

SEZAİ TAŞKENT, TRUSTEE

Sezai Taşkent is Member of the Board of STFA Group. He was born in 1967 in London. He graduated from Aiglon College (Switzerland) and University College London (UCL) with a BSc degree in Economics. He holds master’s degree in executive MBA (Koç University) and attended Executive Management Program at Harvard University. Taşkent has been serving as Vice Chairman of the Boards of Directors of STFA Group and member of various STFA Group companies since 1998.

DALINÇ ARIBURNU, TRUSTEE

Dalınç Arıburnu is the co founder of Centricus Asset Management. Previously, Dalınç was a senior - partner and global co head of fixed income, currency and commodity sales at Goldman Sachs. Dalınç served as a member of Goldman Sachs’ European Management Board, Firmwide Partnership Committee and Securities Division Global Executive Committee. He also represented Goldman Sachs globally as a board member of the Fixed Income, Currencies and Commodities Markets Standards Board (FMSB). Formerly a 1991 TEV Scholar himself for his master’s degree in the United States, Arıburnu is married with three children and lives in London. He has been involved in several charities over the years in particular to support underprivileged children education, accommodation and health.

As we close the chapter on 2024, I am pleased to share that this year marked a meaningful period of progress and renewed momentum for TEV UK. With a clear focus on our mission to expand educational opportunity, we have continued to grow our support for exceptional students and strengthen the foundations of our community.

In the 2024/2025 academic year, we proudly supported four remarkable scholars pursuing advanced degrees at globally renowned universities: the University of Oxford, Imperial College London, and the University of Cambridge. These individuals not only represent academic excellence but also embody the immense potential that emerges when talent meets access.

A notable highlight of the year was the renewal of - our long standing partnerships with Imperial College and the University of Cambridge. In addition, we are now able to extend support to two students each year at Cambridge - a milestone that allows us to increase our impact where it matters most.

Beyond academic support, we have focused on cultivating a more connected and engaged community. Reuniting with our alumni this year marked more than a symbolic gesture; it launched a purposeful effort to build a network of ambassadors who can guide, mentor, and inspire future scholars while championing our mission in new ways.

While our annual auction remains a cornerstone of our fundraising calendar, we recognise the need to broaden and diversify our funding model. Looking forward, our ambitions are clear. We aim to reach more outstanding candidates and broaden our donor community. Sustainable - growth will be key to delivering long term impact, and regular support from our donors is a cornerstone of that vision. In the coming year, we will also be taking a more proactive approach to build new alliances, strengthen our presence within the UK’s Turkish community, and continue developing the next generation of globally minded Turkish leaders.

This past year has been one of steady growth and renewed momentum for TEV UK. We were proud to support four exceptional scholars across some of the world’s most prestigious institutions: two at the University of Oxford, one at Imperial College London, and one at the University of Cambridge. These young individuals continue to demonstrate the transformative power of education when paired with opportunity and support.

We are also pleased to share that our partnership agreements with Imperial and Cambridge have been successfully renewed. Notably, our renewed agreement with the University of Cambridge has allowed us to increase our support to two scholars annually—an important step toward deepening our impact within the academic community.

In our efforts to strengthen the bonds of the TEV family, we gathered past TEV Scholars this year, building a stronger, more engaged alumni network. These gatherings have proven to be invaluable spaces for idea exchange, mentorship, and the nurturing of a community that believes in giving back.

Our annual auction once again exceeded expectations, reaffirming its place as one of our most vital fundraising efforts. The generosity and enthusiasm of our supporters were a powerful reminder of the collective belief in our mission.

Looking ahead, we are focused on expanding our reach. This means not only identifying more

LEVELLING THE

PLAYFIELD

SCHOLARSHIPS FOR STUDENTS IN TÜRKİYE

WITH SCHOLARSHIPS

Türkiye has a high share of youth in its population. According to the Turkish Statistical Institute (Turkstat), in 2024, the share of the youth (15 - 24 years old) population in the Turkish population was 14.9 %, much higher than the EU average of 10.7%. However, it is a great challenge to keep this young population in education past secondary school years.

TEV UK, through scholarships, aims to - provide access to high quality education for young Turks who are academically talented but are in need of financial support.

According to Turkstat’s data, while the net enrolment rate was 88.0% in secondary education in the 2023/24 academic year, the enrolment rate in higher education was 42.7%. A large part of this

HIGHER EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIPS

Candidates enrolled in Turkish state universities, who are not already receiving a grant from any other public or private institution, are eligible for application. Evaluation of the selected students’ progress is based on information collected from the relevant higher education institutions every year. The scholarship grant continues until the student graduates from the relevant higher education institution. Scholarship grants are paid for nine months of every academic year.

MERIT - BASED SCHOLARSHIPS

Students who rank in the first 5,000 in the University Entry Examination are granted this scholarship which is intended to support the development of future leaders.

Candidates are selected depending on the results of the General Aptitude Test, the Young Leader’s Competence Test, and the Composition Examination. Furthermore, they are assessed in an interview by a jury of faculty members from the respective subjects.

Students from Engineering/Architecture, Health Sciences, Administrative Sciences, Basic Sciences, Social Sciences, and Law fields are eligible to apply for a Merit - Based Scholarship. TEV UK is also - considering expanding Merit Based Scholarship in various fields of the arts. Students from the Piano,

Harp, Guitar, String Instruments, Wind

Instruments, Percussion Instruments, Painting, Sculpture, and Graphic Arts departments are - eligible to apply for a Merit Based Scholarship after their first year. Candidates are required to have a - minimum grade point average of 80 or more and are assessed via an interview by respective experts and faculty members.

SELECTIVE SCHOLARSHIPS

TEV UK will additionally contribute to the following special scholarships currently granted by TEV.

SCHOLARSHIPS FOR STUDENTS UNDER PROTECTION

Higher education scholarships are granted to vulnerable students under protection.

SCHOLARSHIPS FOR STUDENTS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS

Scholarships are granted to students with special needs. Additional placements are offered for students with disabilities and are given priority.

NATURAL DISASTER SCHOLARSHIPS

TEV grants scholarships to children who have lost a parent in a natural disaster, such as earthquakes, floods and mine explosions to continue their education.

GRADUATE STUDIES

IN THE UK

TEV UK provides scholarships for selected graduate programmes at the leading UK universities. Currently, TEV UK has partnership agreements with the University of Oxford, Imperial College London, and University of Cambridge. TEV UK proudly awarded new scholarships to four outstanding students in the 2023/24 academic year and three in 2024/25, enabling them to pursue their graduate studies in the UK. Total number of scholars for the 2024/25 academic year was four.

*: £60,000 is the minimum requirement. The actual cost of a Full Scholarship may vary between £60,000 and £70,000.

international recognition, TEV has been the exclusive Turkish partner for the German, French and UK governments on their educational exchange programs particularly for graduate study and established its first international initiative : TEV UK.

ABOUT THE TURKISH EDUCATION FOUNDATION -

A BRIEF LOOK

Established in 1967, the Turkish Education Foundation is a non - governmental organization that has contributed to education in Türkiye for over half a century in a number of distinct roles. This support is mainly in the form of scholarships for vocational high school, university, and master’s and Ph.D students and covers students in all 81 provinces in the country. As such, TEV offers the largest amount of support to students in Türkiye, second only to the government.

TEV UK’s cooperation with TEV is identified and set forth by the Cooperation Protocol (Protocol) signed between TEV and TEV UK. The objective of this Protocol is to support students of Turkish origin to avail themselves of graduate education opportunities (especially in the UK) and where necessary, to enable young Turkish individuals, who may have been deprived of educational opportunities due to various reasons such as disasters etc., to receive education in an uninterrupted manner.

The Foundation also operates İnanç Türkeş Private High School (TEVİTÖL), a boarding school for gifted high school students from all over Türkiye as well as women’s dormitories for university students. In terms of

TEV UK 2024/25 Scholar University of Cambridge Advanced Computer Science

I am very grateful and honoured to receive the TEV UK Cambridge Trust Scholarship at the University of Cambridge. This opportunity enabled me to pursue an MPhil in Advanced Computer Science at the University of Cambridge, which proved to be both fruitful and productive. As part of my MPhil dissertation project, I had the privilege of working under the supervision of Professor Pietro Liò, a pioneer in the field, to push the boundaries of the state - of - the - art in Graph Neural Networks. My project led to a novel discovery that incorporates directionality into Sheaf Neural Networks. I was delighted that this project received the Student Prize for Highly Commended MPhil Project, and - part of the work has been submitted as a first author paper to a prestigious conference.

Throughout the program, I was fortunate to learn from world - renowned lecturers and collaborate with a cohort of brilliant peers. The courses I attended challenged my perspectives and significantly broadened my understanding of computer science. Inspired by this experience, I have chosen to continue my academic journey as a PhD student at Cambridge, once again as a Cambridge Trust Scholar.

discussions led to scientific collaborations, which taught me a great deal and contributed to my decision to pursue a PhD in Cambridge. On the other hand, I had the privilege of being elected as the Social Secretary of the MCR committee at my college, which allowed me to take on a role different from my usual researcher self. This experience enriched my experience and helped me develop essential leadership and communication skills.

My MPhil experience at Cambridge was truly transformative, and I would like to thank TEV UK for making it possible. Not only did they provide financial support to make this possible, but they also gave me a sense of confidence and belonging as one of their scholars, offering support with any issues I may have faced, which gave me peace of mind and helped me focus on my research while pursuing my degree. I extend my heartfelt thanks to the TEV UK family for making this journey possible. Your belief in aspiring researchers like me is truly empowering, and I will carry this experience and your support with deep gratitude into the next chapter of my academic life.

Aside from academics, I had the chance to be part of the postgraduate community at Girton College, which, in my opinion, is one of the best colleges in Cambridge. I met amazing people who became amazing friends, and had discussions with individuals from various subjects, which led to enlightening insights. Moreover, some of these

TEV UK 2024/25 Scholar University of Oxford

Modern Middle Eastern Studies

Being a recipient of the TEV UK scholarship and studying at the University of Oxford has been one of the most transformative and defining experiences of my life. The day I received the news of the scholarship remains one of the brightest and most meaningful moments I’ve ever lived. Thanks to the generous support of TEV UK, I was able to pursue my graduate studies in my dream institution, the University of Oxford, where I am currently enrolled in the MPhil in Modern Middle Eastern Studies.

This program has allowed me to deepen my understanding of a region I have long been passionate about. Over the past year, I had the opportunity to explore diverse disciplinary approaches to the Middle East. This year, I studied the social anthropology of the region, and I was also introduced to computational methods in the social sciences, which expanded my research toolkit by providing me with new ways to engage with large - scale textual and historical data. These courses have helped me approach Middle Eastern studies with a more interdisciplinary and methodologically robust perspective.

I intend to explore the intersection of urban transformation and minority identity through both historical analysis and contemporary case studies, building on my previous research experiences in the field.

The friendships and conversations I’ve shared with peers from all over the world have broadened my horizons and opened new doors for collaboration and shared purpose.

I am deeply grateful to TEV UK not only for enabling me to realise my academic dreams but also for providing a sense of trust, encouragement, and community throughout this journey. The scholarship has empowered me to imagine new possibilities and to work towards making a meaningful difference in the world.

In the upcoming year, I am excited to delve into the history of the modern Middle East under the guidance of Professor Eugene Rogan, whose work has long inspired my academic interests. I will also begin work on my thesis under the supervision of Professor Laurent Mignon, whose expertise in Turkish literature and cultural history aligns closely with my research goals. My thesis will focus on the

I have been a proud member of the TEV family since high school, and words alone cannot express the profound impact it has had on my life. As an alumna of TEV Inanc Turkes High School (TEVITOL), I grew up with exceptional opportunities both socially and academically. The excellent education and inclusive environment at TEVITOL have shaped me into the person I am today. My story continued with the High Merit Scholarship during my undergraduate studies at Koc University. Feeling TEV’s support in every stage of my life is extremely meaningful, and I am grateful to be a part of such an empowering community. I look forward to giving back by using my skills and experience to promote accessible STEM education for future generations.

The TEV UK - Imperial College London - Eczacıbaşı Scholarship opened a new chapter in my academic journey. Advanced Chemical Engineering with Biotechnology program has strengthened my motivation for research on equitable health opportunities and deepened my expertise in chemical engineering through specialized modules. Studying at Imperial, a STEM research university known for its groundbreaking discoveries, has exposed me to diverse perspectives and multidisciplinary collaborations.

At Imperial, I am excited to learn something inspiring every day. Driven by my goal to improve human health, I chose to focus my master’s thesis on protein glycosylation. This vital modification enhances the understanding of disease

The Scholar

There is a round table — perhaps rectangular — and older people are sitting around it. I know that this is one of the most important moments of my 22 - year long life. Here it will be decided whether I will go to the London School of Economics to pursue my MSc in Economics, or not.

It has been my dream for a long time, but I also know that if the answer after this interview is “no,” I won’t be able to do it, even though I graduated from Boğaziçi University’s Economics department with top grades, as studying at the LSE does not fit my financial reality. I need a miracle to make it happen.

I should be sweating coldly, trying to answer the questions in this interview. I panicked during the university entrance exam and in moments far less important than this. But here, I am not panicking at all. Instead, I feel relaxed and confident. I feel as if I know this place, and these people, from long ago. Strangely, I feel like they already know me too.

It is precisely in this moment of reassuring calm, positive anticipation, and lovely excitement that I truly meet my TEV family — a family that will stay with me for a very long time.

Güsel Abla.. The phone rings. It is Güsel Abla. She is a larger - than - life person who personifies many wonderful things about TEV in flesh and blood. TEV is sincere, fair, and caring — just like her. As a member of the founder team, she has been with TEV since its inception in 1967. She embodies TEV’s beautiful culture of deep love and respect for both donors and scholars.

“Alev, how are you? Haven’t seen you for a while,” she says. I know what this means: she wants to see me. And I also know where the conversation will go. TEV does not simply give a scholarship and wish you well. The moment you receive a scholarship, you become a member of the TEV family. It is a lifelong relationship, touching many facets of life.

Güsel Abla wants me to marry. More than 10 years have passed since my master’s; she thinks I have stayed single long enough. We will sit over food trays in the cafeteria on the 8th floor of the TEV building in Esentepe and have one of those talks again. Perhaps she will suggest a new candidate.

Some years later, I bring my own candidate to her, seek her blessing, and then ask her to be my witness at the wedding. She does it — as gracefully as she has done for so many others before me and after me.

Rest in peace sevgili Güsel Abla, you have woven an eternal love through many generations.

Despite my poor memory and probably because TEV has a very special place in my life, I vividly recall many other moments from my Esentepe visits, donor/scholar gatherings, phone chats with Hüseyin Abi about supporting younger scholarship holders, and pep talks with younger cohorts.

I am grateful for all these warm memories. I am honoured and privileged to have been part of the TEV family for so long.

The Volunteer

It is May 2025. As part of my volunteer work at TEV UK, I am one of the panel interviewers for choosing TEV UK’s Imperial College and Cambridge scholarship holders. We are not sitting at a table — it is an online meeting.

As our brilliant and determined candidates answer - a set of pre determined questions, I am amazed. I feel hopeful for the future of not only Türkiye but also the whole world. These young people have it all to change it for the better; academic rigour, vision and determination. They are incredibly talented young people who just need a little help and opportunity to realise their full potential.

I feel very happy to be part of a team that works voluntarily to make this possible. TEV UK’s Trustees, the Head of Development Committee, and all volunteers dedicate their energy to creating fundraising events, collecting donations, setting up partnerships with top UK universities such as Cambridge, Imperial College, and Oxford, and ensuring compliance with UK charity regulations — all just to be able to give more scholarships to these extraordinary young people.

I first met TEV UK shortly after moving to London - and was fortunate to become part of this hard - working and big hearted team. One only needs to meet our scholarship holders to realise that every hour of this voluntary work is more than worth the effort. I feel truly blessed and honoured to be part of the TEV UK family.

TEV UK’s annual online auction was held on May 19 and raised £53,175.

TEV UK’s annual online auction took place between May 16 and May 19, 2024.

In 2024, the online auction’s date, with a deliberate choice, coincided with the Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day on May 19. Each May 19 is officially celebrated across Türkiye as a day specifically gifted to the youth. In historical perspective, 19 May 1919 officially marks the beginning of the Turkish War of Independence following WW1.

The auction items were carefully curated and included holidays, art, wellness, fashion, and some unique experiences money cannot buy. We are thankful to all the donors who have donated these amazing items to be included in our auction to raise funds for our scholarships.

Ceramic Workshop with Ayse Habibe Kucuk

TEV UK organised a special charity ceramic workshop hosted by Ayse Habibe Kucuk, a talented ceramic artist and former TEV scholar. Ayse specialised in sculpture at Sakarya University and is now generously offering her skills to support current TEV UK students through this unique event.

Former TEV scholars, TEV UK volunteers and patrons came together for a hand - building ceramic workshop session at Ayse’s East London studio, where the participants learned fundamental ceramic techniques in a creative and inspiring environment. This was a wonderful opportunity to explore one’s artistic side while contributing to a great cause, as the event was more than just an opportunity to shape clay; it was a chance to shape brighter futures by raising funds for our new scholars.

Building Community: A Special Gathering of TEV and TEV UK Scholars in the UK

TEV UK hosted a special evening bringing together TEV’s former scholars now living in the UK with our newly awarded scholars and Trustees. The event, kindly hosted by Trustee and Head of the Development Committee, Şule Arınç, offered a warm and inspiring atmosphere where new friendships were formed and old memories were cherished.

TEV UK has been partnering with the world’s most prominent education institutions since 2021.

As of end 2024, TEV UK had three fee sharing partnerships with the UK’s outstanding universities.

The United Kingdom is home to many outstanding educational institutions. TEV UK is committed to building strong partnerships with the country’s top universities to achieve its primary goal of providing access to quality education.

As of the end of 2024, TEV UK had three fee sharing partnerships with the UK’s leading universities. Our collaboration with these institutions is a testament to our commitment to fostering educational opportunities and creating a lasting impact. Together, we will continue to empower students and contribute to advancing knowledge and society.

We are excited to announce that TEV UK has extended its cooperation with the University of Cambridge to sponsor two students in the 2025/26 academic year, compared to one student in the previous years.

We are also pleased to confirm the continuation of our collaboration with Imperial College London for the fourth year, which features a jointly funded

scholarship scheme. This scholarship will support - three eligible students pursuing a one year taught Master’s degree during the 2025/26 academic year.

On the other hand, the joint scholarship programme with the University of Oxford will not continue in the 2025/26 academic term due to internal changes in the match funding scheme of the University of Oxford Humanities Division. This joint scholarship may be reinstated in future academic terms if the match funding scheme is restored to its previous capacity.

TEV UK is currently in discussions with other distinguished universities in the UK to expand its network of partnership agreements.

TEV UK is gratified to have signed a gift agreement with Cambridge Commonwealth, European and International Trust (‘Cambridge Trust’) in November 2022. TEV UK and Cambridge Trust agreed to establish a program of scholarship for one student at the University of Cambridge.

Students from Türkiye or of Turkish citizenship may apply for the this scholarship to undertake a Master’s degree. The scholarship is called the “Turkish Education Foundation (UK) Cambridge Masters Scholarship”.

The scholarship was awarded to one student in the 2023/24 academic year. This scholarship continues in the 2024/25 academic year. Moreover, TEV UK has extended its cooperation with the University of Cambridge to sponsor two students in the 2025/26 academic year compared to one student in the previous years.

Since 2021, TEV UK has been collaborating with Imperial College London on a jointly funded scholarship scheme.

We have a remarkable collaborative scholarship programme with the University of Oxford Humanities Division since 2021.

This initiative, with the help of our generous donors and contributions of the University of Oxford, transforms the aspirations of talented individuals with limited financial means into tangible realities. The scholarship, jointly financed by the University of Oxford and TEV UK, includes both the tuition fee and living expenses of the scholarship holder. It is advertised by TEV UK, TEV and the University of Oxford.

The scholarship is for graduate students demonstrating exceptional academic merit and potential who wishes to pursue a Master’s degree in the Humanities Division at Oxford. The scholarship was awarded to one student in the

2023/24 academic year .TEV UK is grateful to the donation of Beko Plc to turn this scholarship into reality. The partnership with the University of Oxford continues into the 2024/2025 academic year with one new student.

The joint scholarship programme with the University of Oxford will not continue in the 2025/26 academic year due to internal changes in the match funding scheme of the University of Oxford Humanities Division. The Trustees present the financial statements for the year ended 31 December 2024. These have been prepared in accordance with the Charities Act 2011 and the Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (second edition effective 1 January 2019) and comply with the charity’s Trust Deed.

STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT

Organisaton

The charity is constituted as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) and it is governed by its constitution dated 4 February 2021. The organisation was registered as a charity by the Charity Commission for England and Wales on 8 January 2021.

Recruitment, appointment and training of Trustees

OBJECTIVES

TEV UK’s current board of trustees consists of four trustees. They are the founding trustees, but some of them has been reappointed at the end of their term periods. Please see below information about the reappointments.

The charity’s objects are for the Public Benefit to promote the quality of and access to education in Türkiye for young Turks in such ways as the CIO thinks fit, in particular but not limited to making grants and providing other financial assistance.

Dalinc Ariburnu reappointed on 08/01/2024 for three years.

The charity aims to support young Turks who are academically talented but are in need of financial support. This financial support enables them to pursue their studies at undergraduate institutions in Türkiye, as well as graduate studies at selective educational institutions in the UK. Our beneficiaries are young Turkish people. By supporting students in this way, we hope to improve the quality of education.

Sule Arinc reappointed on 08/01/2024 for three years.
Sezai Emin Taskent reappointed on 08/01/2023 for three years.
Sait Ergun Ozen reappointed on 08/01/2025 for three years.

Upon completion of the first period of all founding Trustees, all Trustees of TEV UK will have a fixed term of three years.

university/programme are shortlisted for the interview process. The joint TEV and TEV UK interview selection committee then decides on the candidates to receive the particular scholarship.

Key management

The day - to - day activities of the charity are managed by the Trustees and the Development Committee. All the Trustees and Development Committee members of the charity work on a voluntary basis and do not receive any renumeration from the Charity. The Development Committee members are chosen by the Board of Trustees based on their abilities and time commitments.

PUBLIC BENEFIT

The Trustees confirm that they have referred to the guidance contained in the Charity Commission’s general guidance on Public Benefit when reviewing the charity’s aim and objectives and in planning future activities. In particular, the Trustees consider how planned activities will contribute to the aims and objectives they have set.

Grant - making Policy

The charity’s main objective is to provide scholarships for bright young people who are academically successful but in need of financial assistance to continue their education. The charity has partnered with Turkish Education Foundation (TEV) in Türkiye to select the students who will receive these scholarships. TEV UK may contribute towards the higher education, merit - based and selective scholarships in Türkiye for students selected by TEV’s selection criteria. TEV UK also provides scholarships for selected graduate programmes at the leading UK universities. TEV UK has partnership agreements with the University of Oxford, Imperial College London and University of Cambridge. To select students for these scholarships, TEV UK and TEV make joint announcements containing application criteria and deadlines. Following the deadlines, the applications are filtered through with the preannounced selection criteria and academic success. PLANS FOR FUTURE PERIODS

FINANCIAL REVIEW

Income for the year was £124,697 (2023: £280,421) which was generated from corporate and individual donations and from fundraising - events. 2023 income included £45,314 in one off collections to support students following the earthquake in Türkiye in 2023. There were also several organisational and other constraints that inhibited fundraising activities in 2024.

Expenditure was £171,241 (2023: £167,031) and consisted of grants made to students, costs of running fundraising events and support costs incurred in supporting these activities. Although expenditure rose marginally, the disbursement of £45,314 earthquake funds in 2023 was offset by £72,580 distributed to Oxford University in 2024. There was also a £18k reduction in the scholarship grant sent to Imperial College in 2024 compared with 2023.

The year ended with net expenditure of £46,554 (2023: £113,390 net income).

Reserves Policy

The total funds at the year end were £321,704 (2023: £368,248) which was all unrestricted general funds (free reserves note). The charity’s policy is to hold around £250,000 as free reserves (unrestricted general funds less net book value of fixed assets); a sum deemed by the trustees to be appropriate in the light of the commitments of the charity and other uncertainties. Funds held in excess of free reserves will be utilised to expand the range of grants and fundraising activities being undertaken by the charity.

STATEMENT OF TRUSTEES’ RESPONSIBILITIES

The Trustees are responsible for preparing the Trustees’ Annual Report and the financial statements in accordance with applicable law and United Kingdom Accounting Standards (United Kingdom Generally Accepted Accounting Practice).

The law applicable to charities in England and Wales requires the Trustees of the charity to prepare financial statements for each financial year which give a true and fair view of the state of affairs of the charity and of the incoming resources and application of resources of the charity for that period. In preparing those financial statements, the Trustees are required to:

select suitable accounting policies and then apply them consistently;
observe the methods and principles of the Charities SORP;
make judgements and estimates that are reasonable and prudent;
state whether applicable accounting standards have been followed, subject to any material departures disclosed and explained in the financial statements;
prepare the financial statements on the going concern basis unless it is inappropriate to presume that this basis applies.

The Trustees are responsible for keeping proper accounting records which disclose with reasonable accuracy at any time the financial position of the Charity and to enable them to ensure that the financial statements comply with the Charities Act 2011, the applicable Charity (Accounts and Reports) Regulations and with the charity’s governing document. They are also responsible for safeguarding the assets of the charity and hence for taking reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of fraud and other irregularities.

1. ACCOUNTING POLICIES

The financial statements have been prepared in accordance with Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (second edition effective - 1 January 2019) (Charities SORP (FRS 102)), the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) and the Charities Act 2011.

The charity meets the definition of a public benefit entity under FRS 102. Assets and liabilities are initially recognised at historical cost or transaction value unless otherwise stated in the relevant accounting policy notes.

Going Concern

The Trustees have assessed whether the use of the going concern assumption is appropriate in preparing these accounts. The Trustees have made this assessment in respect of a period of one year from the date of approval of these accounts and have concluded that there are no material uncertainties related to events or conditions that may cast significant doubt on the ability of the charity to continue as a going concern.

Income

Income recognised when receivable or when the charity becomes legally entitled to them and the value can be estimated with reasonable certainty.

Expenditure

Expenditure is recognised once there is a legal or constructive obligation to make a payment to a third party, it is probable that settlement will be required and the amount of the obligation can be measured reliably.

Costs of raising funds comprise the costs associated with attracting income and the costs of trading for fundraising purposes. Expenditure on charitable activities includes educational grants to further the purposes of the charity and their associated support costs.

Irrecoverable VAT is charged as a cost against the activity for which the expenditure was incurred.

Debtors

Trade and other debtors are recognised at the settlement amount due after any trade discount offered. Prepayments are valued at the amount prepaid net of any trade discounts due.

Cash at bank and in hand

Cash at bank and cash in hand includes cash and short term highly liquid investments with a short maturity of three months or less from the date of acquisition or opening of the deposit or similar account.

The Eduquake Fund consists of donations received to support the education of university students following the earthquake in Türkiye in February 2023.

The Gokhan Tezcan Bursary Fund consists of funds received from Palmera Capital to support university students over a four - year period.

Gusel Bilal Yurtdisi Mezunlari Bursary Fund represent funds received from Serkan Bektas for student bursaries.

8. ANALYSIS OF NET ASSETS BETWEEN FUNDS

Any restricted funds are held as cash balances. The other net assets of the charity constitute the unrestricted general funds.

9. TRANSACTIONS WITH TRUSTEES AND RELATED PARTIES

No Trustee received any remuneration or benefits in the current or preceding period for their role as Trustees.

No expenses were paid or reimbursed to Trustees in the year or the preceding period.
