A year in two halves

The year 2023 was a tale of two halves that unfolded with a mixture of heartache and celebra�on.

It began with the earthquake that struck Southeastern Türkiye on February 6, 2023. Its impact was profound, spanning ten provinces in Türkiye and affec�ng the lives of millions, and will forever be engraved in our collec�ve memory.

In such adversity, we found comfort in unity, compassion, and resilience. Our thoughts turned to those who were affected, offering our deepest condolences to the families who lost loved ones and extending our hear�elt sympathy to our en�re na�on. Yet amidst the rubble and ruins, we remained determined to rebuild, heal, and emerge stronger than before.

As the dust se�led and wounds began to mend, Türkiye was also gearing up to honour a momentous milestone—the centennial anniversary of the Republic on October 29, 2023. A hundred years had passed since our beloved Mustafa Kemal Atatürk’s visionary leadership paved the way for a modern, progressive na�on. His legacy served as a guiding light as we honoured the Republic’s enduring strength and progress.

We firmly believe that educa�on is the cornerstone of a na�on’s peace, progress, and prosperity. With our donors con�nued support, we are commi�ed to making a difference in this vital endeavour. The - Republic is entrusted to the forward thinking Turkish youth, and we at TEV UK are here to support them in every way we can.

As we embark on the journey ahead, inspired by the ancient art of Kintsugi—where brokenness is transformed into strength and beauty—we embrace the challenges and opportuni�es that lie before us, drawing strength from the boundless poten�al of our youth and our belief in a brighter tomorrow.

The main objec�ve of TEV UK is to provide access to high quality educa�on for young Turks who are academically talented but are in need of financial support. This financial support enables them to pursue their studies at undergraduate ins�tu�ons in Türkiye, as well as graduate studies at selec�ve educa�onal ins�tu�ons in the UK. Our beneficiaries are young Turkish people. By suppor�ng students in this way, we hope to improve the quality of educa�on.

ERGUN ÖZEN, CHAIR OF TRUSTEES

Ergun Özen was born and raised in Türkiye, studied in the United States, and led a successful career in the banking sector in Istanbul. In his leadership posi�on, he became a strong advocate for the cultural and educa�onal organisa�ons within Türkiye. Özen re�red in 2015 and moved to London, where he con�nues to nourish - and inspire a forward thinking rela�onship between his homeland and the UK. As a mentor to many and a father of two young adults, he knows how important it is to have opportuni�es for further educa�on.

ŞULE ARINÇ, TRUSTEE AND HEAD OF DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE

Born and raised in Istanbul, Şule Arınç graduated from Bosphorus University with a BA degree in Economics, followed by a successful career in finance in various European banks. A�er moving to London in 2004 she founded her interior design - company, Atelier T delight Interiors. As a woman who grew up in a patriarchal - society and worked many years in a male dominated finance world, Arınç thinks providing equal opportuni�es to both boys and girls alike, is the key to future enlightenment as a society. She believes that TEV UK can thrive in providing the merit - based access to world class educa�on for Turkish students and in - empowering them to be successful in an ever changing world. She has always been passionate about giving back to her beloved country and TEV UK is the ideal conduit to achieve this dream on a global scale. Arınç is married and a mother of three.

SEZAİ TAŞKENT, TRUSTEE

Sezai Taşkent is Member of the Board of STFA Group. He was born in 1967 in London. He graduated from Aiglon College (Switzerland) and University College London (UCL) with a BSc degree in Economics. He holds master’s degree in execu�ve MBA (Koç University) and a�ended Execu�ve Management Program at Harvard University. Taşkent has been serving as Vice Chairman of the Boards of Directors of STFA Group and member of various STFA Group companies since 1998.

Esteemed Members of the Turkish Educa�on Founda�on UK Family,

As Chair of the Trustees of TEV UK, I am honoured to present our 2023 annual report, reflec�ng on a year filled with both challenges and accomplishments. We con�nued our endeavours to support Türkiye’s young and brilliant minds and had a successful year with our con�nued partnerships with the leading universi�es in the UK and our several impac�ul fundraising events.

We started our journey three years ago to provide - access to high quality educa�on for young Turks who are academically talented but need financial support. Since then, we have built a strong community of supporters that is growing gradually. Despite all the challenges the world presents to us, pu�ng educa�on at the heart of all our efforts con�nues to fill us with hope for the future. We con�nue to take courage from the talented youth determined to make a meaningful impact.

In 2023, devasta�ng earthquakes struck ten provinces in Türkiye and had a profound impact on the region’s youth, jeopardizing their academic prospects. In response to the urgent need to support young vic�ms of the disaster, TEV UK launched the Eduquake Fund with the aim of ensuring their educa�on con�nues without interrup�on, as it is vital for rebuilding lives and communi�es. As we con�nue our efforts to heal our wounds as a na�on, TEV UK is dedicated to providing the resources necessary to help these young individuals con�nue their academic journeys.

2023 also marked a significant milestone in our shared history: the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Türkiye. To honour this occasion of great importance, we gathered on the Republic Day, October 29, 2023, at London’s Natural History Museum for a memorable gala. This event

has increased awareness about TEV UK, which has resulted in numerous dona�ons. This gala, aimed at providing the best educa�onal opportuni�es for the younger genera�ons, was a moment of pride for all of us. As Mustafa Kemal Atatürk profoundly stated, “All my hope lies in our youth.” This sen�ment resonates deeply within our mission, reminding us of educa�on’s vital role in shaping a be�er future for all.

Looking ahead, we remain steadfast in our mission to empower students with the support they need to thrive. We will con�nue our efforts to build and strengthen our rela�ons with the top universi�es in the UK and expand our donor base. Our dedica�on to making a greater impact is reinforced by our collabora�on with our esteemed partner, the Turkish Educa�on Founda�on (TEV) in Türkiye, which has been a guiding and invaluable partner to TEV UK since its incep�on.

Dear Friends, Supporters, and Partners,

As we look back on 2023, it is clear that this has been a year marked by both profound sorrow and incredible resilience. The beginning of the year presented an unprecedented challenge for all of us. On February 6th, the devasta�ng Kahramanmaraş earthquake shook not only the physical ground beneath us but also the very hearts of the Turkish na�on and our global community. It was a moment of profound tragedy, and our thoughts con�nue to be with the families and communi�es who are rebuilding their lives a�er this catastrophe.

In response to this, TEV UK launched the EduQuake campaign, an ini�a�ve that became a beacon of hope for students in the affected regions. The objec�ve of EduQuake was simple yet powerful—to ensure that, despite the chaos, these bright young minds would not lose their access to educa�on. We are incredibly grateful for the outpouring of support and dona�ons that enabled us to help students who were most affected by the earthquake. Through the EduQuake ini�a�ve, we were able to provide a pathway for these young people to con�nue their studies, enabling them to turn tragedy into an opportunity to fulfil their poten�al.

As we moved into the second half of the year, emo�ons remained high, but for more posi�ve reasons. In the fall, we embarked on prepara�ons for one of the most significant events in our history—Cumhuriyet Balosu, celebra�ng the 100th Anniversary of the Turkish Republic. Hosted at the iconic Natural History Museum in London, this evening was a remarkable success. The event not only commemorated a century of progress and achievement for Türkiye but also became a celebra�on of what we can accomplish together when we unite around the shared goal of educa�on. I cannot overstate how proud we are of the support we received. The evening exceeded all our expecta�ons in terms of both a�endance and dona�ons, reinforcing our belief in the importance of our mission.

On the academic front, we con�nued to build

momentum. This year, we renewed our partnerships with two of the world’s leading universi�es, Oxford and Imperial College London. These rela�onships remain cri�cal to our mission of offering outstanding Turkish students the opportunity to pursue their master’s degrees in the UK. It gives me great pleasure to share that we also celebrated a significant milestone this year, with our first TEV UK scholar beginning their studies at the University of Cambridge. This expansion of our network means that we can now offer even more opportuni�es for talented students to pursue their academic dreams at some of the world’s most pres�gious ins�tu�ons. Despite the challenges we faced in 2023, I am filled with hope and op�mism for the future. The resilience of the students we support, the generosity of our donors, and the dedica�on of our team have all contributed to a year of growth, progress, and impact. Together, we are helping to shape the future leaders of Türkiye, ensuring they have the tools, opportuni�es, and support to reach their full poten�al.

SCHOLARSHIPS FOR STUDENTS IN TÜRKIYE

WITH SCHOLARSHIPS

Türkiye has a high share of youth in its popula�on. According to the Turkish Sta�s�cal Ins�tute (Turkstat), in 2023, the share of the youth (15 - 24 years old) popula�on in the Turkish popula�on was 15.1%, much higher than the EU average of 10.6%. However, it is a great challenge to keep this young popula�on in educa�on past secondary school years.

dras�c fall is due to socio - economic reasons, as young individuals are forced to leave their educa�on to start contribu�ng to their family income or at least reduce the burden on the family. TEV UK, through scholarships, aims to - provide access to high quality educa�on for young Turks who are academically talented but are in need of financial support.

According to Turkstat’s data, while the net enrolment rate was 91.7% in secondary educa�on in the 2022/23 academic year, the enrolment rate in higher educa�on was 46.0%. A large part of this

HIGHER EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIPS

Candidates enrolled in Turkish state universi�es, who are not already receiving a grant from any other public or private ins�tu�on, are eligible for applica�on. Evalua�on of the selected students’ progress is based on informa�on collected from the relevant higher educa�on ins�tu�ons every year. The scholarship grant con�nues un�l the student graduates from the relevant higher educa�on ins�tu�on. Scholarship grants are paid for nine months of every academic year.

MERIT - BASED SCHOLARSHIPS

Students who rank in the first 5,000 in the University Entry Examina�on are granted this scholarship which is intended to support the development of future leaders.

Candidates are selected depending on the results of the General Ap�tude Test, the Young Leader’s Competence Test, and the Composi�on Examina�on. Furthermore, they are assessed in an interview by a jury of faculty members from the respec�ve subjects.

Students from Engineering/Architecture, Health Sciences, Administra�ve Sciences, Basic Sciences, Social Sciences, and Law fields are eligible to apply for a Merit - Based Scholarship. TEV UK is also - considering expanding Merit Based Scholarship in various fields of the arts. Students from the Piano,

Harp, Guitar, String Instruments, Wind

Instruments, Percussion Instruments, Pain�ng, Sculpture, and Graphic Arts departments are - eligible to apply for a Merit Based Scholarship a�er their first year. Candidates are required to have a - minimum grade point average of 80 or more and are assessed via an interview by respec�ve experts and faculty members.

SELECTIVE SCHOLARSHIPS

TEV UK will addi�onally contribute to the following special scholarships currently granted by TEV.

SCHOLARSHIPS FOR STUDENTS UNDER PROTECTION

Higher educa�on scholarships are granted to vulnerable students under protec�on.

SCHOLARSHIPS FOR STUDENTS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS

Scholarships are granted to students with special needs. Addi�onal placements are offered for students with disabili�es and are given priority.

NATURAL DISASTER SCHOLARSHIPS

TEV grants scholarships to children who have lost a parent in a natural disaster, such as earthquakes, floods and mine explosions to con�nue their educa�on.

SCHOLARSHIPS FOR GRADUATE STUDIES

IN THE UK

TEV UK provides scholarships for selected graduate programmes at the leading UK universi�es. Currently, TEV UK has partnership agreements with the University of Oxford, Imperial College London, and University of Cambridge. TEV UK proudly awarded scholarships to three outstanding students in the 2022/23 academic year and four in 2023/24, enabling them to pursue their graduate studies in the UK.

*: £55,000 is the minimum requirement. The actual cost of a Full Scholarship may vary between £55,000 and £65,000.

TEV UK has a strong coopera�on with one of the most prominent, respectable, and impac�ul chari�es of Türkiye, Turkish Educa�on Founda�on (TEV)

interna�onal recogni�on, TEV has been the exclusive Turkish partner for the German, French and UK governments on their educa�onal exchange programs par�cularly for graduate study and established its first interna�onal ini�a�ve : TEV UK.

ABOUT THE TURKISH EDUCATION FOUNDATION -

A BRIEF LOOK

Established in 1967, the Turkish Educa�on Founda�on is a non - governmental organiza�on that has contributed to educa�on in Türkiye for over half a century in a number of dis�nct roles. This support is mainly in the form of scholarships for voca�onal high school, university, and master’s and Ph.D students and covers students in all 81 provinces in the country. As such, TEV offers the largest amount of support to students in Türkiye, second only to the government.

TEV UK’s coopera�on with TEV is iden�fied and set forth by the Coopera�on Protocol (Protocol) signed between TEV and TEV UK. The objec�ve of this Protocol is to support students of Turkish origin to avail themselves of graduate educa�on opportuni�es (especially in the UK) and where necessary, to enable young Turkish individuals, who may have been deprived of educa�onal opportuni�es due to various reasons such as disasters etc., to receive educa�on in an uninterrupted manner.

The Founda�on also operates İnanç Türkeş Private High School (TEVİTÖL), a boarding school for gi�ed high school students from all over Türkiye as well as women’s dormitories for university students. In terms of

Dear Educa�on Supporters and Esteemed Members of TEV UK,

For 57 years, we have been dedicated to suppor�ng talented young individuals with limited financial means, ensuring they have access to educa�onal opportuni�es and that their dreams and aspira�ons are not le� unfulfilled.

Our scholarships extend beyond our borders, reaching young scholars pursuing postgraduate and specialized educa�on and research in countries ranging from the United States to France, Denmark to Japan. Our aim is to enrich our na�on's pool of skilled and qualified individuals through these scholarships.

The United Kingdom, renowned globally for its pres�gious educa�onal ins�tu�ons, a�racts many of our youth seeking higher educa�on. Moreover, the UK ranks among the top five countries with significant Turkish communi�es. The unifying power of Turkish business leaders residing here, their sensi�vity towards educa�on and societal issues, encouraged us to embark on this ini�a�ve.

With this awareness, we established TEV's first interna�onal endeavour in the UK in 2021. This step signifies not only geographical expansion but also the spread of hope that warms our hearts across different landscapes. Throughout this journey, alongside our partners, each step has opened new horizons. We have been deeply moved at every stage of our partnership as we have witnessed TEV touch the lives of so many young individuals.

Ceren CANSE

TEV UK 2023/24 Scholar University of Cambridge

Being the first recipient of the TEV UK scholarship at the University of Cambridge is truly an honour and a privilege. My MPhil in Reproduc�on and Embryogenesis has been a transforma�ve experience for my personal and academic growth. As part of my master’s project, I joined Boroviak Lab, which specialises in primate embryogenesis, to study the first morphological milestone a�er implanta�on: amnion forma�on. To this extent, I had the opportunity to acquire - diverse skill sets and learn cu�ng edge techniques, such as microfluidic - based encapsula�on to enable 3D suspension of human stem cells in agarose microgels to provide a biomime�c environment for their self - organisa�on and differen�a�on into embryonic disc and amnion - like structures. Furthermore, in addi�on to my research project, I have been introduced to various disciplines around reproduc�on, ranging from the history of science to sociological perspec�ves on reproduc�ve

technologies, epigene�cs of early development, and long - term maternal health outcomes throughout the year with the lectures/seminars in my course. These helped me discover my academic interests and acknowledge the social and ethical implica�ons of scien�fic progress within its cultural context.

I can confidently say that overall, this year changed my life at its core, both by the opportuni�es that it created for my near future and also by making me discover what I am passionate about and how to integrate that into the career path I want to pursue. With my newfound interest in - understanding extra embryonic lineage differen�a�on, I decided to pursue a PhD to

con�nue working on early placental development. I will undertake this star�ng October 2024 in the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department at the University of Cambridge as a Gates Cambridge Scholar.

During my �me here, I have been lucky to be part of the most interna�onal college in the University of Cambridge, Wolfson College, which has been an integral part of my experience. Thanks to the college system, I have met people from different na�onali�es with varying life paths and exper�se, which has always resulted in enriching - conversa�ons, hopefully long las�ng friendships, and even poten�al academic collabora�ons.

I want to share my most sincere gra�tude to TEV UK for crea�ng this opportunity. Apart from the financial support that has significantly contributed to actualising my academic goals, knowing that the founda�on would support me regarding any issue during my �me in Cambridge gave me confidence and a sense of belonging to this community. So, thank you for paving the way for my future with your trust in me and my poten�al, as well as your support and encouragement to undertake this challenging but enriching experience.

Deniz SARAÇ TEV UK 2023/24 Scholar University of Oxford

I have been fortunate enough to begin my graduate studies in philosophy at Oxford University as a TEV UK scholar in October 2023. I recall the day when I received the news that I was selected as the next TEV UK Oxford scholar. I felt then that this would be the greatest news I had received in my life. This feeling proved correct.

Since coming to Oxford, I have been immersed in a rich intellectual atmosphere. My first year has been especially frui�ul for me in terms of research. Over the first two terms of the three - term academic year, I had the opportunity of working under the supervision of Professor Gonzalo - Rodriguez Pereyra, on some of the most fundamental ques�ons about reality. My supervisor kindly allowed me to work on a diverse number of issues, including whether there are any “abstract” en��es over and above the material universe, how truth and reality are related, and whether a cause or a reason can be assigned to everything.

During the final term of my first year at Oxford, I will be working on the philosophy of mind with Professor Michael Mar�n, who is the Wilde Professor of Mental Philosophy at Oxford. I will focus on ques�ons pertaining to how the mind fits into the natural world, and especially on how inanimate ma�er can possibly give rise to conscious perceptual experience. I am exhilarated to be able to con�nue my research on the

philosophy of mind, which is a lively field with important implica�ons for such pressing issues as Ar�ficial Intelligence and the ethical treatment of non - human animals.

None of this would have been possible without the financial support of TEV UK. But financial aid is far from the only thing I have received from TEV UK. Their warm embrace of their scholars transforms the daun�ng experience of moving to a new country into a joyful adventure. I express my sincerest gra�tude to the TEV UK family and all of its supporters for placing their trust in me.

TEV UK 2023/24 Scholar Imperial College London

The impact the TEV UK Scholarship had on my life could not possibly be overstated. It allowed me to pursue a Master’s degree in Molecular and Cellular Biosciences at Imperial College London, a university that is among the top five of all universi�es worldwide in this field. This was an opportunity that I could not have access to otherwise.

My program at Imperial nurtured my passion for research aimed at improving the lives of the general public, leading me to pursue treatments for neurodegenera�ve disorders. During this pursuit, I gained a deeper understanding of the neurodegenera�ve diseases that are currently very relevant and will be more so in the future with increasing life expectancy, Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease. I was able to choose which area of these diseases of vast complexity that I would like to focus on all thanks to the exis�ng comprehensive research network present at Imperial College London. This exposure and opportunity led me to specialise in the field of drug discovery. With my passion ignited, I had the chance to collaborate with excep�onal researchers and u�lise state - of - the - art equipment provided by a world - class ins�tu�on, bringing me one step closer to realising my dream of discovering a treatment.

Separate from the research itself, my program allowed me to develop skills that are vital for an aspiring researcher. I was able to familiarise myself with the process of experiment design, literature review and proper research techniques, as well as teamwork. Most of which have eased my daily life in addi�on to my future as a researcher. Further,

living in London is an incredible experience on its own. It is such a mul�cultural and diverse city that no one could feel out of place. It presents so many op�ons for personal growth that help make someone into a full - rounded individual in addi�on to ge�ng to experience the cultural richness on the regular.

With all my points combined, I can confidently say that this scholarship has be�ered me both as a researcher and as an individual where it established its value as something way more than financial aid. In the compe��ve world of academic research, it is upse�ng to see talented and passionate students having to limit the reach of their dreams due to a lack of opportuni�es. As someone who felt the disappointment that accompanies such limita�ons, I am incredibly grateful that TEV UK has established this scholarship program to widen the horizon of passion for many more.

Since high school, I have always dreamed about being a part of TEV, not only because it opens the doors to the best academic ins�tu�ons in the world, but more importantly because it would change my way of thinking and mo�vate me to achieve further. With the TEV UK - Eczacıbaşı Scholarship, I have the opportunity to grow the chain that links highly educated and ambi�ous Turkish people all over the world.

I started to study computa�onal science, an emerging field, at Imperial College London. Here in London, I never felt alone. The 100th anniversary of the Turkish Republic which was celebrated at the Natural History Museum was one of the best days of my life. At the dinner organised by TEV UK, personally mee�ng with the donors and having discussions about life was more enlightening than anything. I want to especially thank Şule Arınç for her con�nuous support.

This community feeling of TEV UK helps me focus on my studies and improve myself in all domains. Currently, I'm preparing to write my Master’s thesis with a leading technology company called SLB, a placement arranged through my department at Imperial College. Whether in academia or industry, we need more people on the world stage, and I aspire to contribute to that.

Even up to this point, I've learned numerous crucial aspects about AI and coding that I'm eager to share with my younger friends in Türkiye. I have plans to pass on these skills and mentor many students on their journeys toward innova�on and produc�vity.

Eduquake Fund: TEV UK’s initiative to support young earthquake victims.

The devasta�ng earthquakes that hit ten provinces in Türkiye have put the prospects of the youth in the region at grave risk. 21% of Türkiye’s - popula�on aged 0 17 and 10% of all university students in Türkiye are from the affected region. Either because their schools remain under the rubble or because they have experienced the loss of their families and livelihoods, many must now abandon their educa�on to join the unqualified workforce and support their remaining family members.

TEV UK started the Eduquake Fund ini�a�ve to support young earthquake vic�ms as the next stage in earthquake relief is to help our youth remain in educa�on. We would like to thank Ece Ferik and Pelin İstanbullu Büyüksaraç for their fundraising efforts for the Eduquake Fund. Moreover, we extend our thanks to three PhD students from the University of Cambridge, Elif Yumru, Mehmet Doğar and Zeynep Olgun, for their fundraising campaign “Cambridge - TEV UK Educa�onal Bursary Fund for University Students Affected by Kahramanmaraş Earthquakes.”

We raised a total of £45,314. The funds we raised is directed towards to the following objec�ves in coopera�on with Turkish Educa�on Founda�on in Türkiye.

2022 - 23 academic year but were rejected due to capacity constraints. TEV UK extended further support to these students for another four months.

2) Scholarship For 8 Years of Educa�on

TEV UK supported students from the affected region with scholarships during their 4+4 high school and university years. The total cost of suppor�ng a student through these 8 years is £5,700.

3) 1000 Laptops

Like all other belongings, laptops have also been le� under the rubble. Students need laptops to con�nue their educa�on online. A basic laptop cos�ng around £425 can provide a student with the opportunity to join online classes.

In 2023, the online auc�on date, with a deliberate choice, was April 23, which holds great significance for Türkiye as it marks the establishment of the Turkish Grand Na�onal Assembly in 1920. April 23 is celebrated as Na�onal Sovereignty and Children’s Day in Türkiye, emphasizing both the na�on’s commitment to sovereignty and the importance of children and youth in shaping the country’s future. The day serves as a reminder of - Türkiye’s dedica�on to democracy and the well being of its ci�zens, especially its youth.

The auc�on items were carefully curated and included holidays, art, wellness, fashion, and some unique experiences money cannot buy. We are thankful to all the donors who have donated these amazing items to be included in our auc�on to raise funds for our scholarships.

Our auc�on also included some regular, either one - off, or, monthly dona�ons. Specially, monthly dona�ons, are a very important way to make TEV UK’s fundraising efforts sustainable.

100% of all funds raised goes directly towards our

educa�onal projects. None of this would be possible without the generosity of our sponsors and donors.

As we commemorate the 85th anniversary of the passing of our beloved Atatürk, we reflect on his legacy with love, respect, and longing. 2023 marked a significant milestone in the journey he started for us – the 100th anniversary of the Turkish Republic. To honour this momentous occasion, we gathered on 29th October 2023 at London’s Natural History Museum for an unforge�able gala, a celebra�on befi�ng this important day.

The Natural History Museum bathed in radiant red lights and the evening was magical, filled with emo�ons, entertainment, and a shared sense of pride in the Republic’s enduring strength. More than just a night of celebra�on, this event was a testament to our commitment to the future – providing the best educa�onal opportuni�es for our younger genera�ons. Their success is the torchbearer of the Republic’s values and aspira�ons.

We have a remarkable collabora�ve scholarship programme with the University of Oxford Humani�es Division since 2021.

2022/23 academic year and one in 2023/24. TEV UK is grateful to the dona�on of Beko Plc to turn this scholarship into reality in both academic years.

This ini�a�ve, with the help of our generous donors and contribu�ons of the University of Oxford, transforms the aspira�ons of talented individuals with limited financial means into tangible reali�es. The scholarship, jointly financed by the University of Oxford and TEV UK, includes both the tui�on fee and living expenses of the scholarship holder. It is adver�sed by TEV UK, TEV and the University of Oxford.

As we con�nue reinforcing the strong �es between our charity and the esteemed ins�tu�on, the partnership with the University of Oxford con�nues into the 2024/2025 academic year with one new student.

We have been collabora�ng with Imperial College London on a scholarship scheme partly funded by IC London, TEV UK and our generous benefactor Eczacıbaşı Holding since 2021.

The agreement, which covers a maximum of two awards per academic year, s�pulates that the awards will be for one - year taught master’s programmes offered by the Faculty of Engineering and the Faculty of Natural Sciences at Imperial College London. The eligible candidates must hold a first degree that is equivalent to at least a good UK second - class honours degree, be ordinarily a resident and/or ci�zen of Türkiye and hold an offer

of admission from one of the permissible master’s programmes under this award.

The scholarship was awarded to two students in the 2022/23 academic year and two in 2023/24. This scholarship con�nues in the 2024/25 academic year.

TEV UK is gra�fied to have signed a gi� agreement with Cambridge Commonwealth, European and Interna�onal Trust (‘Cambridge Trust’) in November 2022. TEV UK and Cambridge Trust agreed to establish a program of scholarship for one student at the University of Cambridge.

The scholarship was awarded to one student in the 2023/24 academic year. This scholarship con�nues in the 2024/25 academic year. Moreover, TEV UK has extended its coopera�on with the University of Cambridge to sponsor two students in the 2025/26 academic year compared to one student in the previous years.

Students from Türkiye or of Turkish ci�zenship may apply for the this scholarship to undertake a Master’s degree. The scholarship is called the “Turkish Educa�on Founda�on (UK) Cambridge . Masters Scholarship”.

The charity is cons�tuted as a Charitable Incorporated Organisa�on (CIO) and it is governed by its cons�tu�on dated 4 February 2021. The organisa�on was registered as a charity by the Charity Commission for England and Wales on 8 January 2021.

Recruitment, appointment and training of Trustees

OBJECTIVES

TEV UK's current board of trustees consists of four trustees. They are the founding trustees, but some of them has been reappointed at the end of their term periods. Please see below informa�on about the reappointments.

The charity’s objects are for the Public Benefit to promote the quality of and access to educa�on in Türkiye for young Turks in such ways as the CIO thinks fit, in par�cular but not limited to making grants and providing other financial assistance.

The charity aims to support young Turks who are academically talented but are in need of financial support. This financial support enables them to pursue their studies at undergraduate ins�tu�ons in Türkiye, as well as graduate studies at selec�ve educa�onal ins�tu�ons in the UK. Our beneficiaries are young Turkish people. By suppor�ng students in this way, we hope to improve the quality of educa�on.

We aim to achieve our goals through:

Upon comple�on of the first period of all founding Trustees, all Trustees of TEV UK will have a fixed term of three years.

Key management

The day - to - day ac�vi�es of the charity are managed by the Trustees and the Development Commi�ee. All the Trustees and Development Commi�ee members of the charity work on a voluntary basis and do not receive any renumera�on from the Charity. The Development Commi�ee members are chosen by the Board of Trustees based on their abili�es and �me commitments.

The Trustees confirm that they have referred to the guidance contained in the Charity Commission’s general guidance on Public Benefit when reviewing the charity’s aim and objec�ves and in planning future ac�vi�es. In par�cular, the Trustees consider how planned ac�vi�es will contribute to the aims and objec�ves they have set.

Grant - making Policy

The charity’s main objec�ve is to provide scholarships for bright young people who are academically successful but in need of financial assistance to con�nue their educa�on. The charity has partnered with Turkish Educa�on Founda�on (TEV) in Türkiye to select the students who will receive these scholarships. TEV UK may contribute towards the higher educa�on, merit - based and selec�ve scholarships in Türkiye for students selected by TEV’s selec�on criteria. TEV UK also provides scholarships for selected graduate programmes at the leading UK universi�es. TEV UK has partnership agreements with the University of Oxford, Imperial College London and University of Cambridge. To select students for these scholarships, TEV UK and TEV make joint announcements containing applica�on criteria and deadlines. Following the deadlines, the applica�ons are filtered through with the preannounced selec�on criteria and academic success. The students who fulfil all criteria and received an uncondi�onal offer from the specified university/programme are shortlisted for the interview process. The joint TEV and TEV UK interview selec�on commi�ee then decides on the candidates to receive the par�cular scholarship.

Expenditure saw a rise because of special collec�ons for educa�on following the earthquake in Türkiye in February 2023 which were disbursed. The year ended with net income of £113,390 (2022: £194,691).

1. ACCOUNTING POLICIES

The financial statements have been prepared in accordance with Accoun�ng and Repor�ng by Chari�es: Statement of Recommended Prac�ce applicable to chari�es preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Repor�ng Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (second edi�on effec�ve - 1 January 2019) (Chari�es SORP (FRS 102)), the Financial Repor�ng Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) and the Chari�es Act 2011.

Fund accoun�ng

Unrestricted funds can be used in accordance with the charitable objec�ves at the discre�on of the Trustees. Restricted funds are subjected to restric�ons on their expenditure imposed by the donor.

Statement of cash fows

As a small charity, Turkish Educa�onal Founda�on UK is exempt from the requirement to produce a Statement of Cash Flows.

The charity meets the defini�on of a public benefit en�ty under FRS 102. Assets and liabili�es are ini�ally recognised at historical cost or transac�on value unless otherwise stated in the relevant accoun�ng policy notes.

Going Concern

The Trustees have assessed whether the use of the going concern assump�on is appropriate in preparing these accounts. The Trustees have made this assessment in respect of a period of one year from the date of approval of these accounts and have concluded that there are no material uncertain�es related to events or condi�ons that may cast significant doubt on the ability of the charity to con�nue as a going concern.

Income

Income recognised when receivable or when the charity becomes legally en�tled to them and the value can be es�mated with reasonable certainty.

Expenditure

Expenditure is recognised once there is a legal or construc�ve obliga�on to make a payment to a third party, it is probable that se�lement will be required and the amount of the obliga�on can be measured reliably.

Costs of raising funds comprise the costs associated with a�rac�ng income and the costs of trading for fundraising purposes. Expenditure on charitable ac�vi�es includes educa�onal grants to further the purposes of the charity and their associated support costs.

Irrecoverable VAT is charged as a cost against the ac�vity for which the expenditure was incurred.

Debtors

Trade and other debtors are recognised at the se�lement amount due a�er any trade discount offered. Prepayments are valued at the amount prepaid net of any trade discounts due.

Cash at bank and in hand

Cash at bank and cash in hand includes cash and short term highly liquid investments with a short maturity of three months or less from the date of acquisi�on or opening of the deposit or similar account.

Creditors and provisions

Creditors and provisions are recognised where the charity has a present obliga�on resul�ng from a past event that will probably result in the transfer of funds to a third party and the amount due to se�le the obliga�on can be measured or es�mated reliably. Creditors and provisions are normally recognised at their se�lement amount a�er allowing for any trade discounts due.

The Eduquake Fund consists of dona�ons received to support the educa�on of university students following the earthquake in Türkiye in February 2023.
