## **AGM Annual Report January 1[st] 2023 to December 31[st] 2023**
Another year of steady progress. Our team of regular volunteers, lead by Vince, continue to carry out maintenance work on various parts of the infrastructure within the constraints of our permission to work, and our monthly meeting also allows for others to participate.
No progress in obtaining the lease, although Bidwells were informed in January 2023 that we were now in a position to sign ‘Heads of Terms’. Our ‘Permission to Work was renewed in May 2023. A request was made for permission to carry out remedial work on the aqueduct which so far has not been forthcoming.
This year we became registered with Entrust as an Environmental Body, which allows us to seek Landfill Community Fund (LCF) funding from the Landfill operators. In consequence an application to Crapper & Sons for £22,000 was submitted and accepted. We have so far received £11,000, which after various unavoidable deductions is worth approx. £9,500. A second payment of £11,000 is due in 2024.
We received £530 from Wayland Estates for the purchase of a ‘Whacker’ compactor.
During the year we attended four events. The Cricklade Town Festival, the IWA ‘Festival of Water’, the Newbury Agricultural Show and the Wilts & Berks Canal Trust AGM. We now have a new 3 x 3 metre marquee fitted out with a colourful backdrop and new sets of posters. JM produced two threefold leaflets and business cards for distribution.
We have received various individual donations throughout the year which allows us to continue our work. It must be remembered that the LCF money can only be used as specified in the application: ie on the flood relief aqueduct.
As part of his ongoing mission Steve Court, of ‘Court Above the Canal’, visited us and has uploaded two videos to YouTube taken using a drone. This compliments drone images already supplied to us by Neil Maw.
Our Insurance was renewed in December to ensure our workforce and visitors are full covered.
The Trustees are very grateful for all the support received and all the work carried out by volunteers and friends throughout the year. And, for the financial support from Crapper & Sons and Wayland Estates as well as the individual donations, without which we could not continue.
Our attendance at the WBCT AGM confirmed our continued support of the full restoration of the waterway.
We continue to seek more volunteers for various posts, including assistance with finances, publicity and web site, as well as the important ‘muddy boots brigade’.
