**£**| Tangley Parish Village Hall ## Village Hall Committee Chairman Report to AGM held on 20[th] May 2025 ## **This report covers the period from 1[st] April 2024 to 31[st] March 2025.** ## **Entertainment and Events** Sue Warren organised the 15[th] Tangley Parish Flower and Produce Show in September. It was well attended and a joy to see so many children entering the competition. A big thank you to Sue for all the work involved, and for the contribution she kindly donated to Parish funds. In December a repeat of the Parish Christmas Gluhwein & Carols was held in the Village Hall. It was well attended by the Parish and was a lovely event bringing all ages together. Father Christmas visited with small gifts for all the children and George Whitefield brilliantly choreographed the event. Drinks were provided by a number of local families, attendees bought along a range of nibbles. We hope the event will be repeated again this year. Thank you “team Christmas” for another memorable gathering – especially the junior choir! It’s perhaps disappointing that the year has seen only two main Parish events. This reflects a number of things, including the disappearance of grants that used to be available for entertainment (like “Hog the Limelight”), and competition with other venues for community events. Most of all, we need volunteers willing to give up precious time to help make things happen, and in a busy world that’s an increasing challenge. We love ideas, but we need the people who can turn them into a reality! ## **Health & Safety** The annual Risk Assessment for the Hall and Field were completed in November 2024. The Hall and Field are regularly checked by members of the Committee. Quarterly inspections of play equipment are carried out by TVBC, and maintenance has been undertaken as necessary, although major refurbishment is now being planned. ## **Maintenance and Improvements** This year the glass side doors of the Village Hall to the car park were replaced with new doors that that meet today’s Health & Safety standards. Also a number of double glazed windows had to be replaced due to moisture ingress. Due to the gradual decay of some of the children’s play area we have spent the year getting quotes and raising money to cover the replacement cost. Fund raising work has been undertaken by Julia Rennie. This has been greatly helped by a generous donation of £14,000 from Mr Schwarzman of Conholt Park, for which we are very grateful. After getting a wide range of quotes, from £14,500 - £75,000, the best value was offered by the original supplier, PlayQuest. We also need to replace 7 benches from around the playing field, because the old ones are rotting and becoming dangerous. Maintenance work area in front of one of the football goals is also required, as this has become deeply worn. Thank you to Julia for all her hard work. Quotes have also been sought to put a permanent covered awning up outside the Village Hall to replace the wooden pergola, and to provide outdoor cover. The new awning is being installed in May 2025. Quotes have also been sought for side extensions to the rebound fence and for a concrete table tennis table. We would like to thank Test Valley for cutting the grass on the playing field during the summer months and for their winter work to cut back growth around the Playing Field, including cutting down some dead trees. We would also like to thank Jerker Grader for his contribution in keeping the Village Hall flower bed in great shape. ## **Finance** Accounts to the end of the year show a profit of £178. Capital expenditure cost of replacing the French doors onto the Car Park and double-glazed windows has had a major impact on the hall expenditure. We are waiting on bills for the Playing Field winter maintenance and swing replacement invoices amounting to £1,278. So after these liabilities there is a loss on the year of £1,100, although this is covered from our available bank balance. The income we have received this year also includes a donation of £325 from James’s Place, where they offer use of their facilities for free for evening classes. The Ukelele Class has kindly donated what they would have otherwise paid to rent a hall, and we are very grateful for this. It is becoming increasingly difficult to cover the maintenance costs of the hall, car park and the playing field from income. We hope that in 2025-26 we will be able to attract more bookings, and perhaps to organise some fund raising events with the help of volunteers. Our end of year bank balance is £16,412. ## **Licencing** Nothing to report. ## **Committee Personnel** I would like to give my sincere thanks to Julia Rennie, Chris Baker and Pamela Wharton for their hard work during the year keeping the Village Hall running smoothly and in excellent condition over the past year. Their work is hugely appreciated. Rosie Swayne has agreed to join our committee to help us to organise some events. We are always looking for volunteers to join our Committee or help out in other ways, we would particularly like a representatives from all our villages.
