## **8 Related Party Transactions**
In the year ended 31 December 2022 it is noted that Holy Apostles paid LDBF £40,866 relating to our Parish Contribution, parochial fees and payroll run on behalf of Holy Apostles.

## **10 Description of Funds**
## **Funds designated for the redevelopment of the church building:**
a) **Late JW Clarke** represents donations received in memory of the late John W Clarke.
b) **Late K Smith** represents donations received in memory of the late Kathleen Smith
c) **Late SE Hindson** represents donations received in memory of the late Sylvia Hindson
d) **Late D Wells** represents donations received in memory of the late Dorothy Wells
e) **Late R Tingley** represents donations received in memory of the late Rene Tingley
f) **Winstanley Fund** represents funds designated for the redevelopment of the church
g) **Redevelopment Fund** represents funds designated for redevelopment of the church.

- **11 Payments to Trustees.** £110 was paid to Joshua Wright who at the time of payment was a trustee in line with the Conflicts of Interest and Paying Staff and Trustees Policy which was approved by the PCC before any payments were agreed.

I have completed my examination and I can confim that no material matters have come to my
attention in connection with the exarnination giving me cause to believe that in any material
respert:
l. Accounting records were not kept in reSIrt of the PCC as required by section 130 of the

3. The accounts do not cornp with the applicable requirements concerning the form and
content of accounts set out in the Charitie5 {Accounts and reports) regulation5 2021 other
that any requirement that the accounts give a true and fairview which is not a matter
considered as part of an independent examination.
I have no concerns and have come across no other matters throughout the examination proce55. The
accounts and Aco)untant report is in excellent order with sufficient evidence.

**HOLY APOSTLES PARISH CHURCH, LEICESTER ANNUAL REPORT OF THE PAROCHIAL CHURCH COUNCIL FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31[ST] DECEMBER 2022**
## **AIMS AND PURPOSES**
Holy Apostles Parochial Church Council (PCC) has the responsibility of working together with the Priest-in-Charge, Curate, associate minister, the wardens and staff in promoting, in the ecclesiastical parish, the whole mission of the Church, pastoral, evangelistic, social and ecumenical.
The PCC is also responsible for the maintenance of the church building and hall of Holy Apostles, at the junction of Fosse Road South and Imperial Avenue, Leicester.
## **OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES**
We seek to build up the congregation through:-
- worship, prayer and teaching
- pastoral care
- outreach to the community
- responding to the needs of the church and community through the occasional services
To facilitate this work it is important that we maintain the fabric of Holy Apostles Church and hall.
## **ACHIEVEMENTS AND PERFORMANCE**
We minister to our congregation through our Sunday services. Throughout 2022 we held a weekly 10:30 service in the church The on-going Covid-19 pandemic meant that initially plan B Covid measures were observed. We continued to live stream the services on You Tube until May 2022.In the autumn we began to hold café style church services in the hall when there was a 5[th] Sunday in a month.
Prayer is encouraged through the monthly Prayer Diary and the church was open occasionally for prayer. As a church we supported the Global prayer initiative ‘Thy Kingdom Come’ with material distributed to all and in the autumn held a prayer day and began having prayer gatherings twice a month. The autumn saw the launch of our new quarterly prayer bulletin that has enabled us to persist in prayer for some specific needs.
Our discipleship groups continued meeting in either homes or the church hall for mutual encouragement in bible study and everyday faith. Daily Bible reading material was circulated with the monthly prayer pointers.
There were 61 people on the Electoral Roll (as at 31.12.22) of whom 19 are resident in the parish. The Sunday attendance counted during October, was 33 adults and 6 under 16 yrs
Attendance is usually increased considerably for festivals. 2022 saw a resumption of our usual pattern of events for Christmas. The Christmas Café and tree festival was very well attended and led to over 700 children and young people come to the building on school visits and for the scouts Christingle service. Our own Christingle service was attended by 115 adults and 42 under 16s.
The connections with the two primary schools in the parish grew through 2022 with assemblies being taken by the clergy once a month in each school. Imperial Avenue infant school came to church for a special assembly at Easter, harvest and Christmas accompanied by staff. Parents were once again permitted to join them from the Harvest festival St Mary’s School year 4 children held their carol service in church with 120 children and 66 adults in attendance.
During 2022 we have celebrated 4 Baptisms of children and 1 Adult. There was 1 wedding blessing, 5 funerals in church and 1 memorial service.
**Pastoral Care** is an important feature of the church’s ministry, with visits to the sick and housebound. Two Pastoral Assistants help in this ministry. In 2022 Sylvia Herbert retired from this ministry and did not renew her licence. Ashley Prince continues as pastoral assistant with PTO (permission to officiate).
**Safeguarding** is taken seriously by the PCC and the Promoting a Safer Church document has been adopted. The church has policies for the safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults and those involved in children’s work have DBS checks. The PCC has complied with the duty to have regard to the House of Bishops guidance on safeguarding children and vulnerable adults. The PCC uses the Safeguarding dashboard to support compliance with regulations.
The safeguarding coordinator until May 22 was Jacquie Bone. We are grateful for the years she spent in this role. From May 22 Elaine Swanson took on this role with a particular lead with safeguarding children and Ashley Prince continues to take a lead in the safeguarding of vulnerable adults.
**Mission and outreach** is strategic and multi-faceted. We have reached out to our community through making links with local schools and community groups. A key aspect of our church’s mission has been the alpha course as Soup-er Group and Tiddlywinks; our parents and toddler group. Towards the end of 2021 we a community café. In January 2022 we received a grant of £1000 from Together Leicester for this project. This has been successful in creating a space for church and non-church families and members to enjoy each other’s company, good food and drink.
Mosaic foodbank is a focus for our support for the poor in the community.
The church supports **Christian partners** working abroad. We support the work of INF specifically by funding the work of Nepalese nationals at the Green Pastures hospital. The church also supports Andrew Fanstone in his work with Iris Ministries in Brazil.
We also support Christian Aid and Open Doors as well as local charities, Safe families for Children, One Roof Leicester, Mosaic Foodbank and Sound Café
Leicester. The offering from the Christingle Service went to support the work of the Children’s Society.
**Our buildings** are a vital resource in our mission. As things reopened they were used for church events, Brownies, various exercise and community groups as well New Covenant Church and Reach Leicester Church.
Stephen Gorton continued to support us as project manager overseeing the redevelopment of the church and site to make it fit for purpose.
## **West Leicester Mission Partnership**
Holy Apostles is part of the West Leicester Mission Partnership. In 2022 This Partnership encompassed the churches of St. Anne, St. Paul & St. Augustine, The Martyrs, Holy Apostles, St. Peter’s Braunstone Park, St Margaret’s, Wyggestons and Sound Café BMO.
The Mission Partnership leaders continued to meet weekly for morning prayer on zoom throughout 2022.
## **Deanery Synod**
The APCM is entitled to elect two people to the Deanery Synod who are ex-officio on the PCC. This provides the PCC with an important link between the parish and the wider structures of the church.
**2021 staffing developments,** Revd Jenny Ridge (Priest in Charge) continued to lead the church forward with the support and encouragement Rev’d Tony Leighton (assistant minister). Revd Kate Szejnmann continued with us as curate until July 2022 when she re-located with her family to London.
We have provided placements for, Laura Drechsler an intern on the New Wine Discipleship Programme, (until July 2022.) and Revd Mohammad Eghtedarian a priest gaining experience in a parish context. (Spring 2022)
Margo Henry continues to work in the office as our church administrator.
Francis Hruszka continued in the role of Church cleaner.
## **FINANCIAL REVIEW**
The year ended with a deficit in the General Fund of just under £5,600 which was better than expected. This was due to increased giving in response to the updates to the congregation but also due to an energy grant from the national church and the rise in interest rates increasing the bank interest we receive from just over £100 to well over £3,000. This last factor will continue to benefit us for the foreseeable future
though it must be acknowledged that this situation is also bringing misery to many in the general population. Planned giving remained stable from the prior year both being well below the previous 2 years. Expenditure increased as we came out of the various lockdowns and the costs of energy that more than quadrupled in October. We also invested approximately £3,000 in relocating the office from the vicarage to
the church hall as we returned the vicarage to the diocese. Our formal reserves have been increased slightly to reflect higher running costs but more generally our cash position is very strong reflecting the funds we have built up (including more than £100,000 of legacy income) in the last 4 years. These funds should be seen in the light of the very significant investment required in both our buildings in coming years. The PCC would like to express its gratitude to all who donate to the church especially as we all continue to feel the impact of the current cost of living crisis; the church only exists due to ongoing generosity.
## **VOLUNTEERS**
We are extremely grateful to all who volunteer in whatever capacity to enable the ministry of the church to progress. Thanks go particularly to those who have cleaned the church, maintained the church garden’s and kept the carpark tidy as well as those who serve in a variety of ways on a Sunday.
## **STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT**
The members of the PCC are either ex-officio or elected by the Annual Parochial Church Meeting (APCM) in accordance with Church Representation Rules.
The PCC members are responsible for making decisions on all matters of general concern and importance to the parish.
The PCC met on six occasions during the year (January, March, May, July, October and November) The meetings were on zoom in January, hybrid in March and inperson from May onwards.
The PCC has a Standing Committee which has power to transact the business of the PCC between its meetings subject to any directions given by the Council.

The parish church of Holy Apostles is located in the West End area of the city of Leicester, at the junction of Fosse Road South and Imperial Avenue.
