## **Trustees Annual Report** 01.01. 2022 -31. 12. 2022 ARIYALAI SRI PARWATHY DEVELOPMENT SOCIETY INTERNATIONAL Registered as a Charity in England: No. 1192937 ## **WHO WE ARE** ## **PUBLIC BENEFIT** ASPVDSI is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation registered in England which supports Sri Parwathy Vidyalayam, an all through school located in Ariyalai, Jaffna, Sri Lanka. ## **WHAT WE DO** Provide resources, advice, services and grants to Sri Parwathy Vidyalayam with the aim of redeveloping the school into a top school. Grants are made in accordance with charity law, our constitution and the wishes and directions of donors. In making grants and providing services, we endeavor to reflect the wishes of students and staff by directing funds towards areas we are informed by the school body are most in need. During the year 2022, £10000 was provided in Grants. When considering where to focus our attention our trustees board have regard to the Charity Commission guidance on public benefit and what this means for ASPVDSI. ## **OUR PEOPLE** Our Trustees are: Chair - Nalayini Kuganathan Secretary - Ganesh Rasakulasuriar Treasurer- Dishanthi Thavendren **A B O** **U T** **T** **H E** is being maintained by the Charity and we are supplying manned security on Poya days and Fridays when there is no government-provided security. **C H** **A** **R** **I** **T** **Y** Our main spending has been on daily lunches for the students. This program is a great success, which is appreciated by the parents and staff, no child is hungry at the school any more. We have also supported the Milk program funded by Dr. Yogadeva through the supply of utensils and funding for repairs of the stove. We have invested substantially in renovating the school's facilities. Classrooms 1 & 2 were completely renovated with the financial support of our Members. In 2023 the organization coordinated, and our members fully funded the refurbishment of Classrooms 6,9, 10, 11 & the ICT Room. Our next projects are the Toilet Block and Home Science room and we are seeking funding for these. **T R** **O** **P E** **R** ## **CHAIR'S REPORT** The Charity has continued to provide strong support to ASPV across a number of areas. In terms of academic support, we sponsored Grade 1 students, supported the revision programme for O-Level students by providing transport and refreshment. We initiated homework clubs in Navaladdy and Poombuhar providing additional assistance to students, these projects are under the coordination of Dr. Sharmila. The School has been a safe place for everyone with no security incidents, CCTV For Transport we provided bus season tickets for students from Navaladdy, Poompuhar, and East Ariyalai and also provided minibus transport for O-level students as well as snacks for their revision classes. We gave out 100 parcels of dry food for the families of students ## **CHAIR'S REPORT** Rasakulasuriar and Dishanthi Thavendren for all their work as trustees. I must also thank the dedicated, hardworking team in Jaffna: OSA Chair Dr. Mohanadas, OSA Secretary and ASPVDSI rep Miss Kamalaveni Ramapillai, OSA Treasurer Mrs Vimalarani Sivam, OSA vice chair Mr. Kugathasan. The UK body chaired by Mr Ganesh Rasakulasuriarar organized a Summer Festival event with daytime sports activities and an evening cultural programme which raised over 2800 pounds for ASPVDSI. The Trustees would like to thank the co-ordinators of the daytime sports and bbq event, Gopan, Bavan, Mathi, Mannikaratnam in raising funds for supporting this activity. Also the Trustees would like to thank the artists for the evening cultural program, Yogeswaran (International Artist) , Srinivasan (Mohrsing), Nagaraju Master(violin), Super Singers, Maiurie, Dance Teachers, Mrs Ragini Sivasothilingam and Mrs Vasugi Arunan ( courtesy of TAB) and their students who all performed brilliantly and made this event a huge success. Recently, Dr. Radhakrishnan also retired as Nallur Director of Education. He has been very helpful to this organization and the school, we wish him well for retirement. Approved by the trustees on 17 August 2023 4 Draft 17/8/23 ## **ARIYALAI SRI PARWATHY VIDYALAYAM DEVELOPEMENT SOCIETY - (INTERNATIONAL) Notes to the Accounts for the year ended 31 December 2022** ## **1 Accounting policies** ## _**Basis of preparation**_ The accounts have been prepared under the historical cost convention and in accordance with FRS 102, The Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (as applied to small entities by section 1A of the standard). ## _**Income**_ Turnover is measured at the fair value of the consideration received or receivable, net of discounts and value added taxes. Turnover includes revenue earned from the sale of goods and from the rendering of services. Turnover from the sale of goods is recognised when the significant risks and rewards of ownership of the goods have transferred to the buyer. Turnover from the rendering of services is recognised by reference to the stage of completion of the contract. The stage of completion of a contract is measured by comparing the costs incurred for work performed to date to the total estimated contract costs. ## _**Debtors**_ Short term debtors are measured at transaction price (which is usually the invoice price), less any impairment losses for bad and doubtful debts. Loans and other financial assets are initially recognised at transaction price including any transaction costs and subsequently measured at amortised cost determined using the effective interest method, less any impairment losses for bad and doubtful debts. ## _**Foreign currency translation**_ Transactions in foreign currencies are initially recognised at the rate of exchange ruling at the date of the transaction. At the end of each reporting period foreign currency monetary items are translated at the closing rate of exchange. Non-monetary items that are measured at historical cost are translated at the rate ruling at the date of the transaction.
