Promoting high quality care of patients undergoing anaesthesia for ophthalmic surgery through developing and promoting standards of care : B. Promoting scientific research relating to anaesthesia for ophthalmic surgery by providing a platform for presentation and dissemination of such research and by the provision of grants for research studies and their publication : C. Advancing education and training in the field of anaesthesia for ophthalmic surgery for medical practitioners and associated health care professionals working in this field : D. Educating the general public in all matters relating to anaesthesia for ophthalmic surgery : E. Providing expert guidance and advice on policy to appropriate bodies concerning anaesthesia for ophthalmic surgery. ## **Review of the activities and future development** British Ophthalmic Anaesthesia Society (BOAS) held its annual scientific meeting in London on 5-6 July 2022. This was the first ‘in-person’ scientific meeting/conference since the lifting of Covid-19 pandemic restrictions. The meeting was well received, though attendance was a little lower than at previous London meetings- presumably because of ongoing concerns regarding Covid. In addition to lectures on issues of topical interest, doctors in training did presentations and posters pertaining to their audit and research activities. Prizes were awarded to the best presentations. BOAS also published two editions of academic journal titled 'Ophthalmic Anaesthesia' during the year. These contained clinical reports and review articles pertaining to the specialist field. It was hoped that continuing recovery from the Covid pandemic will allow resumption of ‘normal’ face to face meetings in 2023-4. The unrestricted funds are held in order to meet the demands of the charity in respect to the advancement of health. The trustees consider this level of reserves to be appropriate. The trustees monitor the financial position of the association at each trustee meeting and examine other operational and business risks. The trustees are satisfied that systems are in place to mitigate the exposure to the major risks. …............................................... **Thomas Eke - Chairperson For and on behalf of the Trustees** **Dated :** 25 January 2024 Page 2 ## **BRITISH OPTHALMIC ANAESTHESIA SOCIETY** ## **INDEPENDENT EXAMINER’S REPORT TO THE TRUSTEES OF BRITISH OPTHALMIC ANAESTHESIA SOCIETY** I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of British Ophthalmic Anaesthesia Society for ## **Responsibility and basis of report** As the charity trustees you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 ('the Act') I report in respect of my examination of the Charity's accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act ## **Independent Examiner's Statement** I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect: 1 accounting records were not kept in respect of the charity as required by section 130 of the 2011 Act; or 2 the accounts do not accord with those records.
