sources. However, it became clear that this
would not be forthcoming (at least in the
immediate future), with SNDC instead
supporting development of the Scole playing
fields pavilion, a decision based in part on
promised funding for components of that
project as part of the planning approval for
an adjacent large housing development.
However, the trustees acknowledged the
increasingly difficult local and national
financial situation, the serious problems
many existing village halls (and other
charities) face in maintaining sustainability,
and considerable uncertainty concerning the
implications of the Government’s proposed
reorganisation. As such, the trustees
decided to put the Charity’s primary project
into temporary abeyance.|

1.17, acknowledgement of the increasingly
difficult national financial situation with its
implications for the sustainability of village
halls, coupled with uncertainty concerning
the implications of the proposed local
government reorganisation in Norfolk, the
trustees reluctantly decided to put the
Charity’s primary project into temporary
abeyance.
However, the Charity did apply to the
Adnams Community Trust for funding for
some sustainable outside seating, to be
positioned in the greenspace adjacent to the
proposed position of the hall. A grant of
£1080 was subsequently awarded to the
CIO in Nov 2024, and the benches ordered
and paid for that month. The benches were
installed in early 2025, and will facilitate use
of the site for community and recreational
use, and for use as an additional outdoor
classroom to complement the existing facility
by the river for children from local schools.|
