Charitable Objects and Perfonnance The objects of the Charity are for the local comrnunity and the surrounding area The promotion of community participats.on in heatthy recreation in particular by the provision of facilities for the playing of tennis in a dub environment. Promoting the Charitable Objects- Achievements In furtheran￿ of the Charities objects (promoting the amateur sport of Lavm Tennis. and encouraging the wellbeing and health of the community) and other achievements - the Charity undertook the following activities= Summer camps wrth 75+ juniors attending over a 5-week pericrty. This is a paid for activity which enables parents to leave their children in the care of experien￿1 and qualified coaches and the children to b& entertained and taught tennis. Maintained a link with Wlest Lodge and Benedict Preparatory Schools providing coaching sessions for students and opportunities to improve physical and mental health. Continued to offer opportunities for kn, hitting sessions for non-members of any age or ability in a Club atmosphere. Maintsined membership numbers. Increase in girls, women and juniors playing tennis. Structure and Governance The Charty is constrtuted and govemed in accordance with its Constitution, created %then the Charity was fonned on 22 December 2020. It is managed by a Management Committee Gomposed ¢urrentty of 5 Trustee5. It is supported by a number of other volunteers {non-trusteeslcommittee memters). The Trustees are elected annually at an Annual General Meeting wth nominations open to, and invited from. all members of the Club. Trustees must be 16+ and casual vacancies can be filled during the year. The Committee meets On￿ every 6 weeks and the Head Coach attends meetings as the Committee ensures that tennis development FAay$ a major part of rts considerations. Only members of the Club (aged 18 Fdus) are entitled to vote in an AGM. The Committee considers all aspects of the running of the Club and routinely revEv aspects ol coaching (taking rep￿ from the Head Coach). financial matters (taking a report from the Treasurer), goveman¢e matters (through reports from the Club Secretary) Membership issues (from the Membership Secretary), ciub play, fixtures and inter dub matGhes (through reports from the Club Captains), and health and safety and grounds and maintenance issues. Through the Welfarelsafeguarding Officer, we ensure that we are both ompliant and provide a safe enNllronment at our Club. It also considers associated matters such as social events (used as fund-raising), participation in extemal events for the purposes of promoting the Charity and ts objethves. With regard to welfare and health and salety - Trustees take tpese issues seriously and have an item on all agenda for Trustee meetings whereby any issues or concerns Can be raised. Financial Review When dlscussing any aspects of our Club, including finan￿. it important to remember that Cres¢ent Lawn Tennis Club. is based within Sidcup Sports Club {SSC) and does not ovm its courts (or more specifically the land that the courts are on) The Club is subject to an annual levy that indudes rent and some utilities etc. Details of our levy can be found in our accounts. During 2023124 - a significant redudion in the SSC levy was ath￿ved. H¢)wever, the reduction was negotiated on the basis that some fvnction previously covered by the SSC would fall to the tennis club in future. The Club derives tts income from membership fees, coach court usage fees, sponsorship, floodlight fees, social events, 'Club Drav/ and potentialy from grants andlor loans Expenditure is focused on the SSC levy. tennis association and competition fees, maintaining facilities that the Club owns (court surfaces, fencing, equipmerrt e.g. match balls, website etc.) and ne￿sSary outgoings to support social events. The Committee agreed to revert back to a financial report year 1 April to 31 Marth. This discussion was based on advi￿ received from the Chanty Commission. At the AGM in April 2024. Trustees reported that the Club was in an improving financial position. The general and financial airn going foThvard was to put the Club into a better financial Frt)sition with an emphasis on upgrading courts and other facilrties. At an Emergency General meeting in November 2023, Trustee were able to infomi members in more detail about those plans to upgrade and improve facilities. Broadly speaking these plans consisted of investing in a padel court. bmth a view to generate an altemative financial income stream into the club, %Mth a view that this incorne would be used to update existing court over time It should te noted that installation of padel tennis would be subject to planning permission and that the dub would be taking out a loan to part fund padel tennis. Members at the EGM V¥we over41thelmingly in support of these aims and since November 2023, Trustees have been wothng to take these plans forvrard. In addition. Trustees continued to achieve reductions in outgoings where possible and successfully achieved sponsorships, continued to benefit from easyfunding. coaching court fees and run a number of highly successful soaal fund-raising events. At the time of reporting this has meant that the club continues to move foThvard and close to its aim of greater financial stability and to reinvest in tts club's facilities. Forward Look 2023124 has been a momentous year for the Club and that mornentum continues. As mentioned, the emphasis is very much on maintaining finanaal statility, but also at reinvesting funds back into specifically the dub's faalities. Padel Tennis is envisaged will prove a further and much needed altematrve income stream into the club and allow it to both continue to offer tennis on site as well as vastly improving facrlrties. An area Truste8s are keen to develop is the retention and increase in dub membership and people participating in tennis. Certainly, having better fa￿[rtieS will help in this aim. Our membership over the past few years has been gocxl (but needs to improve) and in particular, V￿ are seeing more women taknng up the sport. We believe that this upwards trend will continue, due in part to an enthusiastic coaching team. As well as invofving more women into tennis there is also a focus on gaining enthusiasm from some local schools for the coaGhes' services and at our facilities to get more young people into tennis. It is an aim of Trustees to develop a programme to encourage people wth disabilrties and other hard to reach groups to play tennis. Social Tennis play is an important aspect of the Club and Trustees are committed to ensuring that this remains. Equally. for those that wish to play more competitively, the Club will maintain tearns in leagues as they acknowledge that competitive Gompetition and any suc￿sSeS can be beneficial to the Club in attracting higher standard players and promoting the Club. It should also be noted that there has been a considerable uptake in taking part in th8 Club Championships. esperyally from new members and juniors. The past year has been hard work for our dub volunteer5 and the supptyt from members has allowed it to make some very big steps towards not only the survival of the club, but to take the Club forward. It would be poignant to remind everyone that your Club is run by a small group of volunteers and the Trustee's would like to extend their thanks to the continuing, often unsighted, contributs'on that they rnake.
