## Trustees’ Report
The Trustees present their annual report together with the financial statements of the Charity for the year ended 31 December 2024.
## Public Benefit
The trustees confirm that they have complied with the duty in the Charities Act 2011 to have due regard to public benefit guidance published by the Charity Commission. The trustees consider that as The Maya Ariburnu Foundations activities are focused in extreme poverty in Uganda, that the activities of the CIO provide significant public benefit.

The Maya Ariburnu Foundation is founded by Maya Ariburnu. Maya has exemplified that everything is possible with dedication, emphasizing the profound impact of small actions on making significant changes. Our primary goal is to promote diversity, inclusion, gender equality, alleviate poverty, and broaden educational opportunities.

## 2024 in Summary
In the past year, we achieved a significant milestone in transforming lives and uplifting communities, creating more pathways across areas deeply affected by poverty and social divides. Our partnership with Amani Charity Ministries has been a key step to achieving much success over the last year.
We are delighted to report that we have provided increased opportunities for those historically impacted by poverty in challenging social contexts in Uganda.
Our primary focus areas—Education, Food, Health, Protection, and Home—have all seen success. We ensured that every child had access to education, was well cared for, properly fed, clothed, and given equal chances in life.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to our generous supporters and the dedicated staff who tirelessly work throughout the year to ensure the success of our mission.

## Our Programs & Activity
At The Maya Ariburnu Foundation, we work to dismantle barriers to opportunity, championing education and gender equity. Our focus is on helping communities create more diverse, inclusive, and equitable educational environments, with the aim of exposing every individual to a multitude of possibilities. Through a range of activities, including educational, sports, and philanthropic initiatives, our Charity is dedicated to ensuring that all young people have access to a bright future and can reach their full potential.
## Sustainable Agriculture & Livelihoods
We provided transformative opportunities for young adults and local farmers across our communities. With the support of our partners, we launched a fully integrated Agriculture Program, designed to address both food insecurity and youth unemployment.
- The program now supports food production for thousands of children.
- It offers practical training and skills development for youth and farmers.
- It is cultivating a new generation of leaders in Uganda’s agricultural sector.
- Thousands of children and families have already benefited.
- Together, we’re building a strong and sustainable future.
## Family Home & Child Welfare
We continued to provide a safe, stable, and loving family home for vulnerable and orphaned children.
- Every child is loved, cared for, and nurtured.
- Our home is a place of healing, security, and new beginnings.
## Education & Girl’s Empowerment
We partnered with local schools and communities to keep children in school — especially girls.
- We provided sanitary products and education support to reduce school dropout rates.
- Our outreach reinforced the value of education, especially for adolescent girls.
## Environmental Conservation
Going beyond academics, we introduced children and communities to environmental stewardship.
- Activities like tree planting were integrated into learning.
- Over 100 children engaged with nature, discovering their role in conservation and sustainability.
## Medical Care & Community Health
We extended compassionate, holistic healthcare to children and families in need.
- Our medical team collaborated with local health workers to educate on disease prevention, nutrition, and hygiene.
- We conducted village health outreaches and distributed mosquito nets to fight malaria.
- This work ensures children grow up healthy, protected, and thriving.
## Feeding Programs
We continue to be committed to providing nourishing meals. This initiative not only saved lives but also brought about positive changes in entire communities, emphasizing the importance of access to simple necessities like rice and beans.
## A Message from Maya Ariburnu
On behalf of The Maya Ariburnu Foundation, I am proud to share some of the incredible accomplishments we've achieved over the past year. What began as a mission rooted in compassion and purpose has grown into a movement fueled by community, resilience, and impact. This year, we successfully launched three new programs focused on sustainability, youth mentorship, and conservation, directly reaching over 100 individuals across our network. Through strategic partnerships and generous donor support, we expanded our scholarship fund, enabling students to pursue higher education who otherwise may not have had the opportunity. These milestones remind us of the power of collective effort and the enduring spirit of The Maya Ariburnu Foundation. We are deeply grateful to everyone who continues to walk this path with us.
## Financial Review Income and expenditure
In the year ended 31 December 2024 our income was £96,208 (2023: £99,300) with a beginning reserve of £10,401. All income was received as private donations. Expenditure was £106,572, the majority of this being grant payments to our local NGO partner Amani Charity Ministries (£97,236), £6,654 for travel costs associated with project design, implementation and monitoring, and £457 in bank charges.
## Financial position at year end
At the year-end, current assets stood at £36.
## Related party transactions
Donations totalling £96,208 were received from the Trustees. There were no other related party transactions to disclose.
## Risk management objectives and policies
The trustees have overall responsibility for ensuring that The Maya Ariburnu Foundation has an appropriate system of controls to identify financial and other risks and to take appropriate measures to manage them.
## Structure, governance, and management
## Constitution
The Maya Ariburnu Foundation (TMAF) was registered as a charitable incorporated organisation (CIO) in England & Wales on 22 December 2020. It is registered at the Charities Commission for England and Wales.
## Methods of appointment or election of Trustees
The management of the Charity is the responsibility of the Trustees. The first trustees were appointed by the constitution. The minimum number of trustees is three and the maximum is seven. The founding Trustees, Maya Ariburnu and Dalinc Ariburnu are appointed for their lifetime.
Trustees are selected with due regard to the skills, knowledge and experience needed for the effective administration of TMAF and once appointed are required to:
- Declare the nature and extent of any interest, direct or indirect, which he or she has in a proposed transaction or arrangement with TMAF or in any transaction or arrangement entered into by TMAF which has not previously been declared; and
Absent themselves from any discussions of the charity trustees in which it is possible that a conflict of interest will arise between his or her duty to act solely in the interests of TMAF and any personal interest including but not limited to any financial interest). A charity trustee absenting themselves from any discussions accordingly does not vote nor is counted as part of the quorum in any decision of the charity trustees on the matter.
## Organisational structure and decision-making policies
TMAF’s Board of Trustees meet between six and eight times a year and together with the Chair, are responsible for the strategic direction and policy of the CIO.
We greatly value the substantial donation of time and expertise by members of our board above and beyond their duties as trustees, and by our volunteers who have supported various functions within TMAF.
## Policies adopted for the induction and training of Trustees
On appointment, new trustees are provided with a current version of TMAF’s constitution, a copy of the Charity Commission’s trustee guidance, ‘The Essential Trustee’ and the latest set of accounts. They are also briefed on their legal obligations under charity law, the Charity Commission guidance on public benefit, the content of the constitution, the Charity's decision-making processes, strategic goals, method of operation and financial activities and status. Trustees are encouraged to visit TMAF’s projects (self-funded) in order to understand our beneficiary communities and work. These visits are part of a monitoring and evaluation activity or to accompany high value donors.
## Pay policy for key management personnel
Maya Ariburnu, Dalinc Ariburnu and Edward Akrout work on a voluntary basis and receive no pay.
## Reserves policy
The Trustees have adopted a Zero level reserve policy. It was agreed to adopt such policy as funds are not generally raised in advance of need and therefore a reserve is not needed to be held. The Reserves policy will be actively reviewed as the Charity grows.
## Investment policy
Surplus funds will be retained in a bank deposit account at the best rate possible whilst retaining instant access to the deposits as required.
## Plans for future periods
The Maya Ariburnu Foundation will continue to partner with Amani Charity Ministries on joint projects aligned to our overall goal of promoting diversity, inclusion, gender equality, alleviating poverty, and broadening educational opportunities. The trustees have also agreed to review the Board and trustees in 2025 to add more diversity, as well as rebrand the Charity name to be more aligned with those it serves in Uganda.
## Independent examiner’s report to the Trustees of The Maya Ariburnu Foundation
I report to the trustees on the accounts for the year ended 31 December 2024 that are set out on the attached pages.
## Respective responsibilities of the Trustee’s and the examiner
As the charity trustees of the Trust, you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (“the Act”).
I report in respect of my examination of the Trust’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination, I have followed the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.
## Independent examiner’s statement
I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination which gives me cause to believe that in, any material respect:
- accounting records were not kept in accordance with section 130 of the Act or
- the accounts do not accord with the accounting records
- The accounts do not comply with the accounting requirements of The Act
- There is further information needed for a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
