Charity Number: 1192856 Registered Office &Headquarter Challenge House Business Centre Business Address: 616 Mitcham Road Croydon, CR0 3AA Trustees: Mr Abdi Aziz Abdi (Chair) Mr Mohamed Waeys (Secretary) Ms Iman Elwad (Treasurer) Bankers: Lloyds Bank Plc 16 Market Pl, Oldham OL1 1JG CROYDON SOMALI EDUCATION AND WELFARE ORGANISATION ## **Trustees Report For the year ended 05 April 2023** ## _Objective_ Croydon Somali Education and Welfare Organisation was set up to provide charitable services to the most disadvantaged BAME residents living in London, in particular the London borough of Croydon, with a mission to provide services for the public benefit in the form of supplementary school, amateur sports clubs, elderly support services and the provision of free legal advice, as well as general charitable services to help improve their current life conditions. ## _Legal structure_ Croydon Somali Education and Welfare Organisation is a registered charitable incorporated organisation (CIO) with the Charities Commission in England and Wales ## _Financial statements_ The trustees submit their trustees’ report and financial statements for the year ended 05 April 2022. ## _Policies:_ ## _Reserve policy:_ The charity currently operates with no reserves. The trustees are hoping to build up its reserves in the near future with a view to having reserves equal to 4 months operating expenditure. ## _Risk(s) review:_ The trustees have recently reviewed the major risks faced by the charity. This has resulted in efforts to get funds to employ co-ordinator, assistant and increase charity’s donor base. ## _Trustees Responsibilities_ The trustees are responsible for keeping proper accounting records which disclose at any time the financial position of the charity and enable them to ensure that the financial statements comply with the relevant regulations. The trustees oversee preparation of financial statements, select suitable accounting policies and make judgments and estimates that are reasonable and prudent to give the true state of affairs of the charity. Trustees are also responsible for safeguarding the assets of the charity. They are elected and replaced as set out in the constitution. CROYDON SOMALI EDUCATION AND WELFARE ORGANISATION ## Trustees Report (Continued) ## _Activities and Achievements_ During the financial year, CSEW Organisation was privileged to receive funding from the ESC Lottery-Sport England. This funding enabled us to conduct a series of transformative initiatives aimed at empowering disadvantaged Muslim females within our community. Specifically, the funds were utilized to host six months of fitness and multisport sessions, tailored to meet the unique needs and preferences of this demographic. ## **Program Impact:** The impact of these sessions was profound and far-reaching. Through engaging in physical activities, participants not only improved their physical well-being but also developed essential life skills such as teamwork, leadership, and confidence. Furthermore, these sessions provided a safe and inclusive space for individuals who may have otherwise faced barriers to participation in mainstream fitness programs. ## **Success and Feedback:** We are delighted to report that the 6-month fitness and multisport sessions were a resounding success. Feedback from participants was overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing gratitude for the opportunity to engage in activities that were previously inaccessible to them. The sessions fostered a sense of community and belonging, empowering participants to lead healthier and more active lifestyles. **Acknowledgements:** We extend our sincerest gratitude to ESC Lottery-Sport England for their generous support, without which this initiative would not have been possible. Their commitment to promoting grassroots sports and fostering inclusivity has made a tangible difference in the lives of the individuals we serve. Additionally, we would like to thank our dedicated team of volunteers who worked tirelessly to ensure the success of the fitness and multisport sessions. Their passion, dedication, and unwavering support were instrumental in creating a positive and enriching experience for all participants. ## **Conclusion:** In conclusion, the past financial year has been marked by significant achievements and impactful initiatives at CSEW Organisation. Through the support of our funders, partners, and stakeholders, we have continued to make meaningful contributions to the well-being and empowerment of underserved communities.
