CROYDON SOMALI EDUCATION AND WELFARE ORGANISATION
Objective
Croydon Somali Education and Welfare Organisation was set up to provide charitable services to the most disadvantaged BAME residents living in London, in particular the London borough of Croydon, with a mission to provide services for the public benefit in the form of supplementary school,
amateur sports clubs, elderly support services and the provision of free legal advice, as well as general charitable services to help improve their current life conditions.
Legal structure
Croydon Somali Education and Welfare Organisation is a registered charitable incorporated organisation (CIO) with the Charities Commission in England and Wales
Financial statements
The trustees submit their trustees’ report and financial statements for the year ended 05 April 2022.
Policies:
Reserve policy:
The charity currently operates with no reserves. The trustees are hoping to build up its reserves in the near future with a view to having reserves equal to 4 months operating expenditure.
Risk(s) review:
The trustees have recently reviewed the major risks faced by the charity. This has resulted in efforts to get funds to employ co-ordinator, assistant and increase charity’s donor base.
Trustees Responsibilities
The trustees are responsible for keeping proper accounting records which disclose at any time the financial position of the charity and enable them to ensure that the financial statements comply with the relevant regulations.
The trustees oversee preparation of financial statements, select suitable accounting policies and make judgments and estimates that are reasonable and prudent to give the true state of affairs of the charity. Trustees are also responsible for safeguarding the assets of the charity. They are elected and replaced as set out in the constitution.

Activities and Achievements
CSEW Organisation’s first project, funded by National Lottery Awards for All began on the 1[st of] May 2022 after the end of the financial period of April 2022, which is why expenditure is recorded as £0, as the money was spent after the financial period.
From May through to the month of October CSEW held its first Digital Training course for the members of our community. We felt this course was necessary as we had realised that many of our service users had limited to no digital skills, and that these lack of skills were causing a barrier to them in terms of applying for jobs online, searching the web, assisting them with their children’s online homework. This problem especially was deeply felt during the pandemic.
Luckily in partnership with our funders the National Lottery Community FundAwards for All, we were able to deliver this course by running a drop-in workshop every Monday and Friday covering various topics such as navigating different web browsers, online safety, how to find a job online, shopping online, social media, using Microsoft Office and how to find your local council and services online.
This project gained great feedback from the attendees, and we hope that we can produce a similar course in the future which can be accredited so our service users can gain certification to add to their CVs to show potential employers.

I, Abdi Aziz Abdi, Chair and Trustee of Croydon Somali Education and Welfare Organisation, hereby confirm that:
The Annual Report and Financial Statements for the year ended 5th April 2022 have been prepared in accordance with the Charities Act 2011, the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2015, and the Statement of Recommended Practice (SORP) for charities.
The financial statements provide a fair and accurate representation of the charity's financial position as of 5th April 2022, and its incoming resources and expenditures for the year ended on that date.
