Our year started with a bingo for school families to enjoy, from which we raised £521, with expenses of £309.
It was lovely to see some new families of Reception children join in with this.
After a successful bonfire & fireworks night last year, we were keen to do this again. It was a very well attended event, and following a very wet spell, the weather held out for us on the night and we brought in £2400, with a profit of £1100.
The fireworks are obviously a big outlay, and such an event is quite reliant on the weather. This year we decided to offer families to pre-order glow sticks and head bands, and this proved popular with children, and enabled us to see an element of income prior to the event should it turn out that the weather creates poor attendance.
Parents pulled together to help with serving refreshments, lighting the fireworks, putting up gazebos and lighting, and it had a real community feel to it.
We ran our Christmas Fair on an afternoon straight after school instead of a weekend which proved popular. Everyone enjoyed all the stalls and Santa’s grotto, and the evening ended with the KS2 Carol singing, which was a great way to bring the parents in, and resulted in a profit of £940.
Expenses are minimal for this event, and many of the prizes and cakes are given by school families.
Asking for donations for the refreshments stall works really well, rather than putting a price on each item.
In a post event meeting, it was suggested that in the future, due to the timing of the event, we provide an option for tea – savoury such as hot dogs, rather than just cakes and biscuits.
We held a quiz in school in April. A Friday night proved popular and was well attended by parents and friends of the school.
We did another Easter Egg hunt, donating a chocolate easter egg for every child in the school. This was certainly well received and was lovely to see the children appreciate it.
Our Annual Summer Fair was the final big event of our financial year, held in June. Another weather dependent event, as we enjoy a bbq and to have games and stalls outside. It was a great success, and we had such positive comments from parents and friends. This year we introduced ‘A time to shine’ – we had a stage setup and allowed children the opportunity to have 5 minutes to shine and show off their skills. We had such a variety of entertainment from children in all classes – from dancing, singing, playing instruments, joke telling and football skills.
It was hosted by 2 ex-pupils of the school which was also great to see.
Everyone who entered got a sticker, some sweets or chocolates, and a certificate to be proud of!
We had such wonderful comments on how entertaining this was, and how talented the children in the school are!
One of our biggest expenses included the Year 6 leavers hoodies and the leavers bbq. This is something that we have subsidised for a few years now and this year cost just over £900.
At Christmas time, we purchased bean bags for the library and Advent books for each class, costing £960, and we subsidised the coach for the whole school trip to the pantomime in Malvern, contributing £1000 towards it.
We also paid £550 towards the Wonderdome Science day, which the children really enjoyed. We’ve paid for annual magazine subscriptions costing £250.
Our greatest expense of this financial year was to purchase 10 new ipads with cases and a charging unit at a total cost of £3700.
General expenses include a Sum-up terminal, a soup kettle, a coffee machine and glasses which will be really beneficial for events going forward.
