us to broaden the discussion of mental health and provide our beneficiaries with holistic advice and support.

This year has been particularlyexciting,as we launchedour first-everexhibition,Sounds& Storiesfrom the Windrush,
whichcelebratedourcommunity'sresilienceandhistory.Wearealsoproudtohavesecuredfundingfor our
CounsellingSponsorshipSchemeforthenextfiveyears,ensuringthatwecancontinuetoofferlife-changing mental
health support to those who need it most.

We were honouredto be featuredin the EalingTimes,whereourworkwas highlighted,andto be recognisedby The
NationalLotteryfor ourcontributionsto the community.As partof thisrecognition,we were invitedto Tilbury Docks

In2023/2024,wehaveexperiencedthecontinuedriseinthecostoflivingandmanystrugglingtomakeends meet
whichhasplacedfurtherchallengesuponmentalhealth.Thishasresultedineitheragreaterneedtoaccess mental
health services or individuals not being aware of support that might be available to them.
```

TheThelmaMatildaAlvesFoundationhasrespondedthroughthecontinuationofonlineserviceswhichhas enabled
us to notonlyincreaseourreachgeographicallybutalsoincreasethe numberof women thatcan access our services.
With an excess of 100 women utilising our services, this is an achievement to be celebrated.

Fundingfor charitieshave continuedto decline which has resultedin some services being ceased or reduced.With the
hardworkofourCEOandnewlyappointedProjectManager,TheThelmaMatildaAlvesFoundationhas been
fortunateto securea varietyof fundingfor 2023/2024andlauncheda counsellingsponsorshipscheme which funded
free counselling sessions for black women who have been unable to access counselling otherwise.

AnotherchallengefacedwithintheUKhasbeenwithintheNHSwithprolongedwaitingtimes,lackofbeds, staff
shortagesandanincreaseinCAMHsreferrals.ThethresholdforfurthersupporttobeputinplacewhenADHD is
suspectedishighandmanywillnotreceivethenecessarysupport.TheThelmaMatildaAlvesFoundation have
successfullycollaboratedwithADHDbabestoprovideadditionalsupporttoblackwomenwhomaynothavehad an
opportunity to acquire support.

Werecognisethatthereisstillalotofworktobedonebutwehaveconfidenceinknowingthatwehavea strong
community of supporters.

## **`OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES`**

The charity'sobjectivesare to preserveandprotectthe mentalandemotionalhealthof womenof African/Caribbean
descent.Also,advancetheeducationforthepublicbenefitamongmentalhealthpractitionersandwomen of
African/Caribbean descent who have an interest in mental health.

We aim to do this through:

a)theprovisionoftraining,workshops,events,andresourcesdesignedtoaidunderstandingofhowmental health
manifestsin women of African/Caribbeandescentand their experienceof accessingmental healthcareservices and to
support the delivery of appropriate mental healthcare services for them;

b)theprovisionofbursariesandawardstosupportwomenofAfrican/Caribbeandescentwhoarestudying for
professional qualifications to enable them to become mental health practitioners; and

c) the provision of mental health resources, including, where appropriate, access to professional counselling.

functionstotheChairoftheTrusteeBoard,anemployee,acommitteeorcommittees,and,iftheydo,they shall
determine the terms and conditions on which the delegation is made.

livingcrisis.Theschemeaddressesthisbyoffering15hoursoffreecounsellingwithqualifiedBlack female
counsellorstowomeninfinancialdifficulty.ItaimstoreduceNHSwaitingtimes,whichcanbeaslongas 12
months,by providingimmediatesupport.Unlikethe NHS,whichlimitscounsellingto 10 sessions,this scheme
providesadditionalhoursandtheopportunityforwomentochoosetheircounsellor.Asuccessful pilot
providedcounsellingto five women, leadingto improvedmental well-being.Due to oversubscription,a waiting
list was created, demonstrating the need for expansion.
