ThelmaMatildaAlvesFoundation.Thisyearhasbeena pivotaloneforourorganisation,markingoursecond operational
year and bringing forth both challenges and triumphs.

InourongoingcommitmenttoupliftthementalhealthofBlackwomen,wehavededicatedsignificanteffortsto forge
partnershipswithotherBlack-ledcharities.Collaborationhasalwaysbeenattheheartofourmission,andthisyear, we
have expandedour network,creatingsynergiesthat amplifyour impact.Thesepartnershipshave not only broadened our
reach but have also fostered a sense of unity within the community we serve.

Oneof thecornerstonesof oursuccessthisyearhasbeenthegrowthof ourvolunteerbase.Thededicationand passion
ofourvolunteershavebeenthedrivingforcebehindourabilitytomakeameaningfuldifference.Theirtireless efforts
have allowed us to extend our services and support to even more individuals in need.

I am thrilledto announcea significantadditionto our team,SafeenaAslam,who has joinedus as the ProjectManager for
our ground-breakingcounsellingsponsorshipscheme.Safeenabringsa wealthof experienceand a deep understanding of
thenuancessurroundingmentalhealthinourcommunity.Withhersupport,weareconfidentthatour counselling
sponsorshipschemewillnotonlyprovidevitalsupportbutalsobecomeabeaconofhopeforthosenavigating the
complexities of mental health challenges.

Lookingahead,ourvisionisunwavering,andourcommitmenttoempoweringBlackwomenontheirmental health

Thisyearwecontinuedtofacechallengesaspartofthecharitysectorduetothecostoflivingcrisisandreduction in
available funding.

Despitechallenges,wehavebeensuccessfulinobtainingfundingfromavarietyofsourceswhichhasenabledus to
design and deliver a range of event and programmes in line with our strategic objectives and vision.

Ourpartnershipwithotherorganisationshasincreasedwhichhasenabledustoreachandsupportblackwomenin the
intersectionalityspace.Wehavesuccessfullyintroducedamonthlysupportgroupforblackmotherswhichhasnot only
enabledthemtosharetheirexperienceofmentalhealth,networkwithotherwomeninsimilarsituationsbuthas also
provided them with helpful tools.

Wehavehadafocusonspirituality,faithandmentalhealth,asessionwherebywomencouldfurthershare their
experiences in a safe space.

We launchedour Counsellingsponsorshipschemeto aid moreblackwomento accessprivatecounselling,enabling them
toreceivesupportatanearlierstage.IthasbeenagreatyearandIamproudofboththeprogressandimpact that
Thelma Matilda Alves Foundation has had in the lives of many black women.

Ithankmyfellowboardmembersfortheirdedicationandserviceandalsoacknowledgethededicationand extremely
hard work of our Chief Executive, staff and volunteers.

Thetrusteespresenttheirreportwiththefinancialstatementsofthecharityfortheyearended31March2023. The
trusteeshaveadoptedtheprovisionsofAccountingandReportingbyCharities:StatementofRecommended Practice
applicableto charitiespreparingtheiraccountsinaccordancewiththeFinancialReportingStandardapplicableinthe UK
and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective 1 January 2019).

`OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES`

Thecharity'sobjectivesaretopreserveandprotectthementalandemotionalhealthofwomenof African/Caribbean
descent.Also,advancetheeducationforthepublicbenefitamongmentalhealthpractitionersandwomen of
African/Caribbean descent who have an interest in mental health.

We aim to do this through:

a)theprovisionoftraining,workshops,events,andresourcesdesignedtoaidunderstandingofhowmental health
manifestsinwomenofAfrican/Caribbeandescentandtheirexperienceofaccessingmentalhealthcareservicesand to
support the delivery of appropriate mental healthcare services for them;

b)theprovisionofbursariesandawardstosupportwomenofAfrican/Caribbeandescentwhoarestudying for
professional qualifications to enable them to become mental health practitioners; and

c) providing mental health resources, including, where appropriate, access to professional counselling.

Ourprogrammesandactivitiesthatwedeliverenableustoachieveourobjectivesthrougha seriesofonline workshops
andsessionsdesignedandfacilitatedbymentalhealthprofessionalsonarangeoftopicsconcerningwomen of
African/Caribbean descent mental health.

Vision- In Britain,womenof AfricanandCaribbeandescentreceiveadequateandeffectivementalhealthand wellbeing
care.

Mission-TransformingthementalhealthsectorinBritaintoimprovetheunderstandingofwomenof Africa/Caribbean
mentalhealth.Byincreasingtheknowledgeofmentalhealthprofessionals,increasingthenumberofwomen of
African/Caribbeandescentmentalhealthprofessionals,centringthecommunity'sopinionsandexperiencesin mental
health programme designs, and improving access to mental health and wellbeing care.

`ACHIEVEMENT AND PERFORMANCE`

TheperiodofApril2022toMarch2023wasoursecondoperationalfinancialperiodforthecharity.Thisyear,we have
workedhardtoincreasethecapacityoftheorganisationandlaunchnewservicestosupportBlackwomen across
England.

1. CounsellingSponsorshipScheme:We successfullylaunchedour innovativeCounsellingSponsorshipScheme, providing
atotalof15hoursoffreecounsellingtofiveBlackwomeninLondonfacingfinancialconstraints.Thisinitiativeaims to
bridge the gap in mental health access and support for those from low-income backgrounds.

2. WelcomingSafeenaAslamas ProjectManager:We are proudto announcethe additionof SafeenaAslamto our  team
astheProjectManagerforourcounsellingsponsorshipscheme.Safeena'sexpertiseandcommitmenttomental health
advocacy bring invaluable leadership to this critical initiative.

3.HostedTenMentalWell-beingWorkshops:Throughouttheyear,weorganisedandconductedtenengaging mental
well-beingworkshops,attractingover100attendees.Theseworkshopsservedasaplatformtofosteropen discussions,
share coping strategies, and promote overall mental health awareness within our community.

4. CollaborationwithADHDBabes:Weforgeda meaningfulpartnershipwithADHDBabes,culminatinginthe successful
deliveryofourfirstADHDandMentalHealthDiscussionPanel.Thiscollaborationallowedustobroadenourscope and
address intersectional aspects of mental health, reaching a diverse audience and promoting inclusivity.

5.ExpansionofVolunteerTeam:Strengtheningourfoundationforimpact,wewelcomedsevennewvolunteersto our
team.Theseindividualsbringdiverseskillsandperspectives,enhancingourabilitytoservethecommunity effectively.
Their dedication is instrumental in propelling our mission forward.

TheseaccomplishmentsunderscoreourcommitmenttoadvancingmentalhealthsupportforBlackwomen, breaking
downbarriers,and creatinga moreinclusiveand resilientcommunity.We are gratefulfor the collaborativeeffortsof our
team, partners, and supporters in achieving these milestones.

`FINANCIAL REVIEW`

`Financial position`

Incomethisyearwas £25,116(2022:£14,195)withan expenditureof £15,406(2022:£11,322)givinga surplusof £9,710
(2022:£2,873).Thesurpluswasaresultofdonationsbybeneficiaries,crowdfundingandsomesuccessful funding
applications.

`Reserves policy`

The targetrangeis set at 3- 6 monthsof our expenditure.The Boardof Trusteesconsidersthatthistargetrange provides
flexibility in the context of operations of our organisation.

`STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT`

TheThelmaMatildaAlvesFoundationisgovernedbyaconstitutiondated12thDecember2020.Underthis document,
the charityis registeredand operatesas a CIO and has the powerto do anythingwhichis calculatedto furtherits objects
or is conduciveor incidentalto doing so. The charitytrusteesshall managethe affairsof the CIO and may for that purpose
exerciseallthepowersoftheCIO.Moreover,thecharitytrusteesmaydelegateanyoftheirpowersorfunctionsto the
Chairof the TrusteeBoard,an employee,a committeeor committees,and, if they do, they shall determinethe terms and
conditions on which the delegation is made.

`Trustee recruitment and appointment`

Under the constitution, trustees must be a natural person.

(a) No individual may be appointed as a charity trustee of the CIO:

if he or she is under the age of 18 years; or
if he or she would automatically cease to hold office under the provisions of clause 12(1)(e).

(b)Nooneisentitledtoactasacharitytrusteewhetheronappointmentoronanyre-appointmentuntilheorshe has
expresslyacknowledged,inwhateverwaythecharitytrusteesdecide,hisorheracceptanceoftheofficeof charity
trustee.

(c) At least one of the trusteesof the CIO must be 18 years of age or over. If thereis no trusteeaged at least 18 years, the
remaining trustees may only act to call a meeting of the charity trustees or appoint a new charity trustee.

`Responsibilities and basis of report`

AsthecharitytrusteesoftheTrustyouareresponsibleforthepreparationoftheaccountsinaccordancewith the
requirements of the Charities Act 2011 ('the Act').

I reportin respectof my examinationof the Trust'saccountscarriedout underSection145of the Act andin carrying out
my examinationI havefollowedallapplicableDirectionsgivenby theCharityCommissionunderSection145(5)(b)of the
Act.

`Independent examiner's statement`

I havecompletedmy examination.I confirmthatnomaterialmattershavecometo my attentioninconnectionwith the
examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect:

1. accounting records were not kept in respect of the Trust as required by Section 130 of the Act; or

2. the accounts do not accord with those records; or

`1. ACCOUNTING POLICIES`

`Basis of preparing the financial statements`

Thefinancialstatementsofthecharity,whichisapublicbenefitentityunderFRS102,havebeenprepared in
accordancewiththeCharitiesSORP(FRS102)'AccountingandReportingbyCharities:Statement of
RecommendedPracticeapplicableto charitiespreparingtheir accountsin accordancewith the Financial Reporting
StandardapplicableintheUKandRepublicofIreland(FRS102)(effective1January2019)',Financial Reporting
Standard102 'The FinancialReportingStandardapplicablein the UK and Republicof Ireland'and the Charities Act
2011. The financial statements have been prepared under the historical cost convention.

`Income`

All incomeis recognisedin the Statementof FinancialActivitiesoncethe charityhas entitlementto the funds,it  is
probable that the income will be received and the amount can be measured reliably.

`Expenditure`

The charity is exempt from tax on its charitable activities.

Unrestricted funds can be used in accordance with the charitable objectives at the discretion of the trustees.

Restrictedfundscan onlybe usedfor particularrestrictedpurposeswithinthe objectsof the charity. Restrictions
arise when specified by the donor or when funds are raised for particular restricted purposes.
