SnaP **TRUSTEES ANNUAL REPORT** ## **Pan Verus Project REG CHARITY NO. 1192760 6 QUARRY HIGH STREET, OX3 8JT** Since we began in 2018 we have: conducted a mammalian species assemblage in Outamba using camera traps and community knowledge, conducted conservation education programmes and engaged in discussions with wildlife with over 3,000 community members in and around OKNP, started a free alternative-income training scheme for adults in our own building in Kortor, and provided employment opportunities in wildlife research and monitoring to local people in Tambakkha Chiefdom. **Document**|The charity still operates under the constitution created originally in 2019 for
the CIO| Our wildlife research, conservation, and community engagement activities are funded by The Dallas Zoo. This organisation is focused on supporting projects which aide in the protection of African Forest Elephants. The main activities of the charity operations occur in the habitat of the last strong-hold of elephants in the country of Sierra Leone, with an estimated >120 remaining. 65 adults were provided with free alternative income training that allows people to pursue employment, rather than reliance on subsistence farming. The new programme launched in this timeframe included traditional Gara tie-dying courses which have led to the establishment of a new community run business providing steady employment for 13 people with market links to 5 markets across the country. These cash income opportunities also provide alternatives to the only other cash-paying work in the area, which is illegal extractive industries (ie mining and logging). We have continued to improve relationships with the communities in and around the Outamba Kilimi National Park in Sierra Leone which has greatly aided in the expansion of our work which has included the chiefdom donating a new building for the Gara tie-dyeing programme. Conservation activities historically butted heads with local people, whereas we aim to work ‘hand-in-hand’ to help people accomplish their goals in an environmentally responsible way. We also continued to participate in the Sierra Leone National Science Festival to bring our work and the joy of Sierra Leone’s wildlife to others outside the immediate area of the national park.
