This report is presented in accordance with the Statement of Recommended Practice, “Accounting and Reporting by Charities” (SORP), issued in March 2005. The Charity is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) governed according to the Constitution dated 28 November 2020. . ## **Statement of Trustees’ responsibilities** The Charities Act 2011 requires the trustees to prepare financial statements for each financial year which give a true and fair view of the charity and of the incoming resources and application of resources of the charity for that period. The trustees are responsible for keeping sufficient accounting records that disclose with reasonable accuracy at any time the financial position of the charity and enable them to ensure that the financial statements comply with the Charities Act 2011. They are also responsible for safeguarding the assets of the charity and hence for taking reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of fraud and other irregularities. ## **Organisation** The Trustees are: - Miss Anne WANKIIRI (chair) - Mr David KINUTHIA (finance) - Mr Pedro DUARTE - Ms Rutendo NYATSINE The Members of the CIO are individuals, corporate bodies, or representatives of Organisations that are not incorporated, who undertake to act in good faith to further the purposes of the CIO. The affairs of the CIO are managed by the Charity Trustees, of which there must be at least three. Decisions are made by simple majority of votes at a meeting of Trustees or by resolution made in writing or in electronic form and agreed by all Trustees. Induction of Trustees is overseen by the Chair. ## **Objectives and activities** “The prevention or relief of poverty in Northampton by providing African food parcels, non-food essentials such as personal and household essentials, clothing and other items and services to individuals in need and/or charities, or other organisations working to prevent or relieve poverty. ” United African Association Registered Charity No. 1192725 Trustees Report & Accounts for the year ended: 4 July 2021 In exercising their duty, the Charity Trustees have reviewed that all of their activities have due regard to public benefit guidance published by the Commission. **Achievements and Performance - for the year ending 4th July 2021** ## **Food parcels** The African food parcel project was our biggest activity. Over 2000 people received food parcels during the year. Further sessions will take place in the coming year. ## **Zoom action for happiness sessions** We held monthly mental wellbeing sessions (ia zoom) as part of an **Action for Happiness** project. “ _Action for Happiness brings people together and provides practical resources. We help each other learn evidence-based skills for happier living, feel a sense of belonging and commit to personal action to create more happiness, for ourselves and others_ .” ## **One to One Support** The demand for 1-2-1 support increased drastically, the association was receiving hundreds of calls every month from people requesting assistance for issues such as poverty, homelessness, immigration, Covid vaccines, domestic abuse, bereavement, illness, benefits advice. We strengthened our relationship with the councils, NHS and social services and forged new relationships with organisations like Citizens Advice Bureau and Northampton Hope Centre ## **Befriending Services** Our charity volunteers provided telephone befriending services from Northampton Borough Council referrals, making calls to isolated people at least once a week. Those friendships have continued as restrictions ease and friends are looking forward to meeting in person for the first time over the summer. United African Association Registered Charity No. 1192725 Trustees Report & Accounts for the year ended: 4 July 2021 ## **Office Space** The charity acquired a much needed office space at Barratt House, for admin use, outreach sessions, meetings, training and confidential one to one sessions. ## **Van Purchase** Through grant funding the organisation acquired a van for transportation of food items ## **African Drumming sessions** African drumming remained our most popular African cultural activity. We held sessions outdoors due to the restrictions at the time, we also performed at the outdoor FamFest event in June 2021. _Outdoor Afro moves sessions where possible (sometimes combined with drumming)_ United African Association Registered Charity No. 1192725 Trustees Report & Accounts for the year ended: 4 July 2021 ## **Financial review** We raised £107719.14 during the year. This was mainly from grants and some donations. The majority of our income and expenditure is for the food parcel project. The continues to remain the charity’s biggest project. ## **Plans for FY 2021/22** increase in food deliveries More Zoom action for happiness sessions maintaining outreach support?
