## **Section C Objectives and activities**

**Summary of the objects of the charity set out in its governing document**

The object of the CIO is the provision and maintenance of a village hall for the use of the inhabitants of the civil parishes of Low and High Bishopside and Bewerley in North Yorkshire without distinction of political, religious, or other opinions, including use for:

1. meetings, lectures and classes, and

2. other forms of recreation and leisure-time occupation, with the object of improving the conditions of life for the inhabitants.

|**Summary of the main**
**activities undertaken for the**
**public benefit in relation to**
**these objects (include within**
**this section the statutory**
**declaration that trustees have**
**had regard to the guidance**
**issued by the Charity**
**Commission on public**
**benefit)**|The Hall has been maintained to a high standard, with suitable
facilities, providing an appropriate venue for the parishioners of
both Pateley Bridge and Bewerley, plus other organisations to
hire.
The long-standing events, such as the Indoor Bowling, Tuesday
tea dances, Cuppa and Cake events and the Bird Watching club,
are still in place. Our monthly Film Nights are continuing, plus
other types of events take place purely as a way of fundraising
to ensure the continued use of the Hall.
It is estimated that we need, as a minimum, around £14,000 -
£15,000 a year to cover utilities, the various licensing that is
required for the provision of alcohol, showing of the films,
insurance, caretaking duties, social media activities, posters, etc.
All events that take place are fundraisers for the Hall.
We are still progressing with the plans for the sale of the garden
areas at the back of the Hall. The sale of the second plot took
place in April. This now leaves one more area to be sold which
will enable other vital repairs to take place to ensure the
maintenance of the Hall continues to progress.
We had struggled for a number of years with the existing boiler,
which was under capacity for a Hall this size, but it came to a
head towards the end of last year, and we were able to secure
half the cost from a funding source to have the boiler replaced.
This then brought up some other issues in terms of the pipework
needing to be rerouted so that it works much more efficiently.
The Hall requires a contingency fund for any unforeseen work
that needs to be carried out in the future. As a registered charity
and community centre, we will continue to fundraise and apply
for funding and grants when appropriate.|

You **may choose** to include further statements, where relevant, about:

- policy on grantmaking;

- policy programme related investment;

- contribution made by volunteers.

Ultimately, we continue to look at other ways of fundraising and seek to invite people to suggest ways of creating more fundraising. The Trustees look forward to maintaining our financial stability whilst vital maintenance and improvements are carried out. Our next focus, hopefully, will be in terms of our stage area, which is in desperate need of new stage lights and curtains. Again, this can only be brought about through managed fundraising which we will continue to carry out to the best of our abilities. Alongside of this will be the total refurbishment of the kitchen, but that will not be for at least two years. There will always be something that needs replacing in the Hall, but our focus now needs to be on the fundraising and ensuring we are financially viable on a year by year basis.

Our volunteers are priceless in terms of the giving of their time and effort in continuing to maintain and help the Hall fulfil its role within the community and with respect to the constitution we abide by.

## Section D Achievements and performance

We continue with our programme of redecorating the Hall and **Summary of the main** hope to have this finished in the next financial year. We now **achievements of the charity** have a smart screen available for those who wish to use our **during the year** smaller meeting room. This can also be used for further training for our Trustees and other interested parties. Our main achievement is the continued use of the Hall and the fact that this is only possible through the continued fundraising that is carried out.

## **Section E Financial review**

Reserves are mainly held to cover the expected major maintenance and **Brief statement of the** repair items. In particular, the roof is made up of concrete tiles dating **charity’s policy on reserves** from the 1960s, which have now exceeded their expected lifespan. Major expenditure in the order of £60,000 can be expected within the next 10 years

The cash reserves are held within the main current and savings accounts and nominally amount to £28,000, which provides cover for the normal annual operating expenditure.

**Details of any funds materially in deficit**

None
