Activities

Provide services and support for people with a learning disability in Braintree District by offering learning and recreational opportunities, advice and information to maximise their potential enjoyment, quality of life and general well-being. Support is also offered to their families and carers. Activities take place at Charles Leeks House and, where possible, in the wider community.

Objects: The Relief Of People With A Learning Disability In Particular By:(a) Providing Services Offering Learning And Recreational Opportunities To Individuals With A Learning Disability And To Facilitate Access To A Wide Range Of Services In Order To Maximise Their Potential, Enjoyment, Quality Of Life And General Well-Being And To Support Them, Their Families, Dependants And Carers; (B) Providing Opportunities For Individuals With Learning Disabilities; To Facilitate Their Acceptance And/or Integration Into Their Local Communities And To Improve Public Awareness And Understanding Of Their Condition; (C) Offering Support And Information; To Provide Advocacy Services And To Liaise With Health, Social Care And Other Agencies For And On Behalf Of Individuals With A Learning Disability And Their Families, Whilst Recognising And Respecting Their Religious Views And Diversity; (D) Seeking The Views Of And To Listen To Individuals, Their Families And Supporters, On All Aspects Of Living With Learning Disabilities, To Ensure That The Services The CIO Provides Are Informed By Such Views; To Promote The Needs And Abilities Of People With A Learning Disability Through Awareness Campaigns And By Publicising The Activities And Achievements Of The Cio's Members; (E) Working In Partnership With Other Organisations And Service Providers To Obtain The Best Possible Benefit For Individuals With A Learning Disability, Including (If Considered Appropriate By The Charity Trustees), Research Into The Causes Of Learning Disabilities And Developmental Disabilities.
