Introduction

We begin this report by expressing our sincere gratitude to our incredible volunteers, whose hard work and dedication throughout the year have been involved in helping us achieve our goals.

We also extend heartfelt thanks to MACC and Salford CVS for their invaluable support, guidance, and training. A special thank you to Salford CVS for awarding us our first official grant of £1,000, which helped cover volunteer expenses a significant milestone in our journey.

We’re equally grateful to our Trustees for their consistent contributions and personal donations, which have helped sustain the organisation and expand our reach.

Message from the Chair of Trustees

This past year has been one of both great challenge and remarkable resilience.

As Chair of Trustees, I am incredibly proud of what Solidarity & Support Organisation has achieved, although operating under extremely difficult conditions, without regular funding for most of the year. Our dedicated team of volunteers continued to serve the community tirelessly, providing essential services and emotional support to people in real need.

We have established that compassion, solidarity, and commitment can carry us far. But we also know this work is not sustainable without greater support. That’s why I’m calling on funders, donors, and partners to stand with us now. Your support, no matter how large or small, helps us keep our centre open, run vital services, and expand our impact in both the UK and internationally.

We also kindly invite more people to get involved, whether by volunteering, collaborating, or simply spreading the word. There is space for everyone in this effort. Together, we can build a stronger, more inclusive and caring community.

A Global Crisis Close to Home

While we remain focused on supporting local communities, we cannot ignore the

urgent humanitarian crisis relating in Sudan. Since the outbreak of violent conflict in April 2023, millions of Sudanese people have been displaced, both within Sudan and across borders, with limited access to food, healthcare, or safety.

Many families have lost their homes, loved ones, and livelihoods. The war has devastated infrastructure, disrupted essential services, and left people struggling to survive.

As a UK-based community with strong ties to Sudan, we feel a deep responsibility to raise awareness and take action. We are working to connect with diaspora groups, advocate for international response, and provide whatever assistance we can to those fleeing violence and hardship.

We urge our friends, partners, and funders to remember Sudan in your hearts and actions, and to support organisations like ours that are building bridges between local communities and international crises.

Thank you for reading this report. Thank you for supporting us. And thank you for believing in a world where compassion and solidarity are more than words, they are actions that change lives.

Our Mission

Solidarity & Support Organisation is committed to supporting refugee, asylumseeking, and marginalised communities across Greater Manchester, England, Wales, and beyond. We aim to empower individuals and improve their quality of life by offering advocacy, services, and community engagement opportunities.

Our core objectives are:

a) To promote the welfare and inclusion of vulnerable communities — regardless of gender, race, political affiliation, religion, or background — through activities that foster wellbeing, education, and social participation.

b) To establish and manage a community centre that provides a safe space for support services, training, cultural exchange, and community development.

c) To assist refugees and asylum seekers in accessing essential services, preventing poverty, and enabling individuals to reach their full potential.

d) To engage in international solidarity work, particularly in response to humanitarian crises. We proudly support efforts to assist Sudanese people affected by war, displacement, and hardship through support, networking, and diaspora-led

e) To promote other exclusively charitable purposes aligned with our mission and values.

Our Strategy

To meet our goals, we:

• 1- Act as a link between local authorities and refugee/asylum-seeking communities, identifying needs and communicating them clearly.

• 2- Provide volunteering opportunities that foster skills, confidence, and social integration.

3- Collaborate with partner organisations to deliver a wider range of effective services.

Impact

Over the past year, our organisation has:

• 1- Supported individuals with welfare referrals.

• 2- Promoted social inclusion through community events and volunteer opportunities.

• 3- Distributed essential items through our clothes bank.

• 4- Provided emotional and family support through counselling.

• 5- Taken concrete steps toward educational programming (ESOL).

• 6- Engaged in international advocacy, standing in solidarity with communities affected by conflict abroad.

A Heartfelt Thank You to Our Donors

• 3- Offer refreshments and assistance to our volunteers and clients

• 4-Take meaningful steps toward long-term service development, such as ESOL

Your generosity has helped us change lives, restore dignity, and bring hope to those facing hardship. Thank you for being part of this journey.

Looking Forward

In the year ahead, we plan to:

• 1- Launch the ESOL programme

• 2- Expand service delivery and outreach to reach more communities

• 3- Deepen collaboration with public and voluntary sector partners

• 4- Secure new funding to sustain and grow our work

• 5- Continue standing in solidarity with global communities in crisis, particularly those impacted by war and displacement
