At the core of our mission is the commitment to mitigating the impact of trauma and fostering resilience within communities. The Sudanese Solidarity Organisation dedicates its efforts to addressing mental health challenges, particularly focusing on preventing depression and supporting individuals coping with post-traumatic stress disorder resulting from experiences of atrocity. Our unwavering dedication extends to guiding individuals through the immigration process with a commitment to upholding dignity and respect, while concurrently sharing and preserving our rich cultural heritage. In addition, we offer essential services such as interpretation, welfare benefit assistance, and strategic signposting. Furthermore, our multifaceted approach encompasses providing comprehensive housing and benefits advice, ensuring a holistic support framework for those in need. Our outreach extends beyond the borders of the United Kingdom, reaching Sudanese individuals globally, including those in South Sudan, Chad, Niger, and Egypt. This involves not only providing direct assistance but also engaging in fundraising endeavours, championing peace-making initiatives, and cultivating strategic partnerships with both national and international organisations. As we reflect on the achievements and challenges of the past year, we express our gratitude for your continued support and collaboration. Together, we strive to make a meaningful and lasting impact on the lives of those we serve. ## Objectives - (a) To promote the benefit of the Sudanese community and non-Sudanese Community in Great Manchester, and throughout England and Wales without distinction of sex, race or of political, religious or other opinions, by associating together the Sudanese people and the local authorities, voluntary and other organisations in a common effort and to 3 provide facilities in the interests of social welfare for recreation and leisure- time occupation with the object of improving the conditions of life for the site community. - (b) To establish, or secure the establishment of, a community Centre (thereafter called "the Centre") and to manage the same (whether alone or in co-operation with any local authority or other person or body) in furtherance of these objects. - (c) To promote such other exclusively charitable purposes as may from time to time be determine. Our objective split into within the UK and abroad. ## Within the UK Provision of a community facility for Sudanese people and other groups to gather and develop mutually supportive activities and services such as classes, social activities, and provision of support as well as development of mutual understanding of cultures. ## Abroad The organisation acts as a platform to communicate and provide humanitarian aid by adopting a holistic approach directed toward achieving its objectives of empowering and developing sustainable solutions and strengthening the capacities and resilience of people affected by shocks and risks. The organisation is concerned with providing food assistance, and humanitarian assistance, education, and health. ## Our Vision Provision of support and humanitarian assistance in all its forms to Sudanese and nonSudanese migrants, refugees, and vulnerable individuals within the UK and abroad. ## Our Mission A world of hope, tolerance, and social justice, where poverty has been overcome and all people live in dignity and security. 4 ## Our Values Courage, respect, diversity, collaboration, consideration, honesty and openness, likability, inclusion, and quality. ## The benefits of the organisation's purposes ## Fostering Social and Mutual Support: A Global Community Initiative Our mission is to extend social and mutual support to both the Sudanese and non-Sudanese communities residing in Great Manchester, and throughout England and Wales. This commitment also reaches those living within Sudan and across the diaspora, including South Sudan, Chad, Niger, and Egypt. For those residing in the United Kingdom, we provide a dedicated centre for social activities, shaped by the preferences and needs of our valued members . ## Building Cultural Bridges: Connecting Sudanese and British Communities Central to our objectives is the promotion of cultural understanding between the Sudanese and local communities. We aim to facilitate a two-way exchange, introducing the richness of Sudanese culture to our local members while fostering an appreciation for British culture among the Sudanese population. This mutual understanding serves as a foundation for stronger community bonds. ## Global Outreach and Support: Nurturing Peace Beyond Borders: Our commitment transcends geographical boundaries. We provide support for Sudanese individuals living outside the United Kingdom, including those within Sudan itself. Additionally, our initiatives extend to promoting peace-making efforts, both locally and globally. Through strategic partnerships and collaborative endeavours, we strive to contribute to the well-being and harmony of communities, transcending borders and fostering a sense of unity. As we reflect on our journey, we express gratitude to our members, supporters, and partners who have played an integral role in realising these objectives. Together, we continue to make a positive impact on the lives of those we serve. 5 ## Achievements & Performance: Empowering Communities, Fostering Collaboration ## 1. Comprehensive Support Services Provided vital support services to the Sudanese Community and individuals from diverse backgrounds. This includes interpreting services, assistance with application forms, referral for ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) classes, referrals to other organisations, signposting and educated support for individuals experiencing PTSD, by establishing crucial links to their families and our community in Sudan. ## 2. Strategic membership Successfully fostered membership with prominent organisations such as MACC (Manchester’s Local Voluntary & Community Sector Support Organisation) & Salford CVS (Community and Voluntary Service). These organisations have provided us with support, help, courses, and advice that enable us to better service and support the communities we engage with. ## 3. Innovative Strategies for Future Success: Proactively developed and implemented new ideas and strategies poised for substantial achievement in the year2024.These initiatives reflect our commitment to continuous improvement and a forward-thinking approach to community support. ## 4. Volunteer Development: Supported and cultivated volunteering opportunities within our community. By providing avenues for individuals to contribute their time and skills, we have not only empowered our volunteers but also enhanced the overall impact of our charitable endeavours. ## 5. Advocacy and Equality and Diversity Promoted the principles of equality of opportunity and the inherent value of diversity within our initiatives. Our commitment to inclusivity is reflected in the actions we 6 have taken to ensure everyone has equal access to support services and opportunities. ## Financial Report Throughout the fiscal year the charity did not receive financial support or donations from external organisations or individuals. The operational costs and various activities were sustained solely through the generous contributions made by our committed. Last year we reported that we sent humanitarian aid to Sudan, entrusted to an organisation known as Sudanese Human Rights Abroad (OSHRA). Regrettably, we encountered challenges, as OSHRA failed to distribute the aid to the intended recipients. Abdalla| ## Report a serious incident. ## Humanitarian Aid Dispatch to Sudan: Incident Report In September 2020, our charity initiated a response to the devastating floods in Sudan resulting from profuse and continuous rainfall across most Sudan states. The SSO and Sudanese community in Doncaster and various regions across England donated 8 humanitarian aid, including clothes, food utensils, duvets, tents, sanitary pads, and more. The overall weight of the aid totalled approximately 7,860 kg. ## Financial Challenges and Attempted Shipment: Financial constraints posed challenges in covering transport fees to Sudan, resulting in the aid remaining in storage for two months. Despite efforts to secure funds from various donors, external support was not obtained. A partial solution emerged when £500 was contributed by our organization's members. Additionally, an individual contributed £1000 in exchange for utilising a third of the shipping container for personal items, facilitating the shipment from London to Khartoum at a total cost of £2,500. ## Carrier’s Shipment Reference 53548153 B/L-No: HLCULIV201082796. Receiver ## ORGANISATION OF SUDANESE HUMAN RIGHTS ABROAD. ## Issues with Sudanese Human Rights Abroad (OSHRA) Upon arrival in Khartoum on 17th May 2021, collaboration with OSHRA to distribute aid faced significant challenges. OSHRA's failure to coordinate distribution, coupled with embezzlement allegations, led to the suspension of aid distribution. ## Loss of Certified Documents: Despite our attempts to pursue legal action, setbacks persisted. Certified documents required for legal proceedings were unfortunately lost by the Royal Mail. Subsequent recertification and submission to Sudanese authorities encountered further delays. Armed Conflict and Decision to Close the Case On 22nd March 2023, legal action against OSHRA was initiated. However, the eruption of armed conflict on 14th April 2023 prompted a reassessment of our priorities. The dire 9 humanitarian crisis resulting from the conflict led us to make the difficult decision to close this case. The search for a dedicated space remains ongoing as we strive to create a vibrant community hub. ## **2.** Financial Hurdles in Achieving SSO Objectives The realisation of our organisation's objectives is hindered by financial constraints. We are actively exploring avenues to secure the necessary funds, seeking partnerships and donations to ensure the effective implementation of our Social Support Objectives (SSO). ## **3.** Financial Strain Covering Borrowed Funds for SSO: Managing the financial aspects of borrowed funds for our Social Support Objectives poses a significant challenge. We are working diligently to alleviate this strain, exploring sustainable financial solutions and prudent fiscal management to honour our commitments responsibly. 10 ## Conclusion In conclusion, our commitment to serving the community and pursuing our mission is unwavering. The collective responsibility of our dedicated Trustees ensures accountability for every action undertaken by the charity and its representatives. Recognising the inherent risks charities face, our Trustees actively engage in robust risk management, providing oversight commensurate with the level of risk involved. In our role of supporting asylum seekers and refugees, both within and outside the UK, we extend our impact through the provision of a community facility fostering cultural exchange and mutual support. Our trustee boards lead by example, setting and upholding the charity's values, and emphasising the importance of aligning actions with these principles. As we navigate the complexities of a large charity, we maintain a balance of decision-making authority within the executive while ensuring accountability through vigilant trustee oversight. Ultimately, our charity remains dedicated to its purpose, consistently reflecting its values even in challenging situations.
