1- Introduction
Welcome to Sudanese Solidarity Organisation annual report and audited accounts for the financial year ending 31[st] March 2022. The Sudanese Solidarity Organization is composed of a group of refugees and asylum seekers whose life was afflicted by the civil war in Sudan? Having escaped the terrible violence, death, and displacement, they arrived in the UK and faced the possibility and threat of detention and deportation, coupled with the psychological and physical factors that accompanied them throughout their journey. As newly arrived migrants and asylum seekers, they are transitioning them with the necessary knowledge, training, legal aid, counseling, and humanitarian support.
On the other hand, SSO was created in response to the urgent need to provide humanitarian aid to the least privileged and most vulnerable individuals by addressing their needs through vulnerability identification and prioritization, gap identification through issue mapping and tracking, and mitigation and root cause eradication. By taking a holistic approach to achieving its goals of creating sustainable solutions and enhancing the capacities and resilience of those affected by shocks and dangers, the organisation serves as a platform for communication and humanitarian relief. The organisation's actions (providing food supplies and humanitarian aid) are based on our needs assessment, which is highly effective in producing the necessary outputs to produce the desired outcomes.
Objectives
(a) To promote the benefit of the Sudanese community and non-Sudanese Community in Great Manchester, Doncaster and throughout England and Wales without distinction of sex, race or of political, religious or other opinions, by associating together the Sudanese people and the local authorities, voluntary and other organisations in a common effort and to provide facilities in the interests of social welfare for recreation and leisure- time occupation with the object of improving the conditions of life for the site community.

(b) To establish, or secure the establishment of, a community Centre (thereafter called "the Centre") and to manage the same (whether alone or in co-operation with any local authority or other person or body) in furtherance of these objects.
(c) To promote such other exclusively charitable purposes as may from time to time be determine. Our objective split into within the UK and abroad.
Within the UK
Providence of a community facility for Sudanese people and other groups to gather and develop mutually supportive activities and services such as classes, social activities, and provision of support as well as development of mutual understanding of cultures.
Abroad
The organisation acts as a platform to communicate and provide humanitarian aid by adopting a holistic approach directed toward achieving its objectives of empowering and developing sustainable solutions and strengthening the capacities and resilience of people affected by shocks and risks. The organisation is concerned with providing food assistance, and humanitarian assistance, education, and health.
Our Vision
Provision of support and humanitarian assistance in all its forms to Sudanese and non-Sudanese migrants, refugees, and vulnerable individuals within the UK and abroad.
Our Mission
To establish a system that addresses migrant vulnerabilities and generates durable and sustainable solutions that elevate and mitigate their vulnerabilities and suffering.
Our Values
Our core values stem from our beliefs in providing equal and equitable opportunities to all the beneficiaries with accountability and transparency as its pillars.

The benefits of the organisation's purposes
To give social and mutual support to the people of Sudan and non-Sudan living in Great Manchester, Doncaster and throughout of England and wealth as well as those living within Sudan but also in the diaspora such as in South Sudan, Chad, Niger and Egypt. living in the United Kingdom, providing them with a Centre at which social activities can take place as determined by the membership. Promotion of understanding of the culture of Sudan to local people and British culture to the people of Sudan. Support for the people of Sudan outside the UK including in the Sudan. Promotion of peace-making initiatives.

Volunteers sorting out the donations which were received from the Sudanese communities and other communities in the UK to be distributed in the UK and shipped to Sudan to help refugees,
displaced people, homeless and orphans.

Providing food meal to the South Sudanese refugees in Sudan
In 15[th] January 2020 the Sudanese Solidarity Organisation (SSO), in collaboration with the Organisation of the Sudanese Human Rights Abroad (OSHRA), as part of our work, embarked on the path of making a difference and providing humanitarian aid to all. The first initiative was the dissemination of meals to the most vulnerable in the refugee community targeting 1,100 persons and ended up delivering about 879 meals, but the initiative stopped because we have no donors and fund. Still those people need help.
Nefasha camp, Sudan, Khartoum Omdurman
In August 2020 The SSO in collaboration with the OSHRA under the auspices of the Sudanese Red Crescent, distributed what people needed for Eid ul Adha at the Al-Hattana camp in the state of Khartoum. The organisations mentioned above distributed food items in the refugee camp successfully.

Crown Plaza Hotel (London)
In 23 October 2020 the SSO has provided clothes, shoes, belts, etc. to the new arrivals at Crown Plaza Hotel (London).
Lawrence Field Apartments (Sheffield)
4 August 2021 we have developed a further initiative to provide clothes and accessories for the new asylum seekers who have arrived in the United Kingdom in Sheffield city (Lawrence Field Apartments).
We thank everyone who donated this aid, both financially and morally to support the refugees and asylum seekers. We especially thank the Sudanese community in Doncaster and Barnsley.

Seven Kings, Best Western Hotel and Continental Hotel (London)
27 August 2021 We have taken an initiative to collect clothes and accessories through donations and distribute them to the new asylum seekers who have recently come to the UK. We also received used phones and some money donated by the SSO members. We visited three hotels in London, namely London Seven Kings, Best Western Hotel and Continental Hotel. We hope to visit the other hotels soon to distribute humanitarian assistance to asylum seekers who need help.
Educational Play Toys for Children
October 2021 the Sudanese Solidarity Organisation, in cooperation with the Banana Box Toy project provided educational play toys for children from the age of one year to eleven years old in Doncaster to promote a learning and development of social skills.
Thanks a lot, to the BBTPO for this great effort and the valuable gifts that pleased the children and their families.
We hope that cooperation between SSO and BBTPO will continue in other projects in the future.

Shipment Shipped to Sudan
Humanitarian aid has been assembled to be sent to Sudan to support the displaced, refugees, and orphans. We would like to thank everyone who helped us to achieve this. Also, special to the other communities for their donations. Moreover, thanks to the Sudanese community in Doncaster, Sheffield, Rotherham and Barnsley. Many thanks, thanks to the Doncaster Jamia Mosque administration for providing us with the collection points.
Shipment Arrived Sudan
The chair of the Organisation of Sudanese Human Rights Abroad spoke to the media. He began his speech saying, I would like to give a huge thanks to the Sudanese Solidarity Organisation (British) for sending this humanitarian aid targeting refugees living in the (Nefasha camp, Sudan, Khartoum Omdurman), the Muqwama children and elderly people. The Chair of the organisation confirmed that the aid will be distributed to the target groups fairly and satisfactorily.

4- Report about the shipment that has been sent to Sudan

In September 2020, profuse and continuous rainfall caused devastating floods across the majority of Sudan states, the water level exceeded a certain height that has not been seen for nearly a century. It ranks among the most severe floods recorded in the region. A state of emergency was declared, and a vast number of organisations dispersed to provide aid and mitigate the damages bestowed by the disaster. The flood affected more than 3,000,000 people, destroyed more than 100,000 homes, and left more than 100 people dead. Sudanese Solidarity Organisation stepped up to help the Sudanese people in the wake of this terrible tragedy, collecting aid and storing it in a mosque donated by the Doncaster communities and other communities throughout England. This collaborative effort between SSO, the Sudanese diaspora, and various nationalities from the area assisted in the collection of aid over the course of four weeks. Clothes, their accessories, food utensils, duvets, tents, sanitary pads, etc. are just a few examples of the aid.
The overall weight of the aid was close to 7,800 kg. Because there wasn't enough money to send the aid to Sudan, it stayed in the storage container for two months. Without success, SSO attempted to obtain finance from various stakeholders. Eventually, they received money from the organisation's members, although it was only enough to cover about £500. SSO got in touch with a person who offered his help by paying (1000 pounds) in exchange for renting a third of the container to transfer some belongings as a means to an end. He shipped replacement auto parts, which later caused issues in custom clearance in Sudan. The consignment successfully departed

London in November and traveled via Jeddah in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to Port Sudan in Sudan. An excursion that lasted five months. The entire cost of the cargo is (2,500 pounds), of which £1,500 have been paid, and a debt of £1,000.
While waiting for the shipment, OSHRA was expected to find a way to pay for all the necessary procedures as soon as they arrived, but they were unsuccessful because no other party or organisation would support due to the sheer difficult times during the pandemic because all funding and assistance goes towards the latter. As it may, OSHRA began the paperwork for the container to be exempt from customs, but regrettably a lack of expertise on the best course of action was a barrier that delayed the proceedings. The shipment's contents, including the machinery, spare parts, and used clothing, raised questions about its intended use because it is illegal to import used clothing into Sudan. Furthermore, because there was a surge of Tegray refugees nearing Sudan's borders at the time, OSHRA included the Tegray as a target beneficiary without previous approval with SSO. Accordingly further delay and complications arose which led to inability to obtain the exemption documents.
The pills of lading were sent from the UK and received on 03-17-2021 and sent to Port Sudan on 03-20 to commence procedures as the container arrived on 07-04-2021. The customs commissioner was selected and contacted upon recommendations from SSO.
The proceedings flow was halted as the quality inspection would have confiscated the content of the container as it contained used cloth, which is by law prohibited to enter Sudan unless you possess a letter from the Humanitarian Aid Commission (HAC), which the organisation failed to obtain. The customs commissioner released the shipment after the SSO paid all the customs fees.
The container arrived in Khartoum state on 16-05-2021, and on this day the chaos started, upon unloading and for a period of three days, some of the items were lost. Either taken by some of the organisation's staff or given away. During this time these deeds were done when the representatives of SSO were absent. Unaware of the importance of formulating a committee beforehand to supervise all activities done regarding the aid. Upon confronting the president of the organisation he denied any knowledge of these actions taking place, bearing in mind he holds the keys to the storage unit. On the other hand, when talking to the staff some acknowledged

and are asking about the course of action that will be taken. Others with contempt stressed that the chair had prior knowledge and that they wouldn’t act without his knowledge, others denied and dismissed the accusations and described them as absurd.
The building in which OSHRA resided, was discovered to be previously confiscated by the (committees ……) that the new government formed as the previous owner of the organisation building was accused of corruption, and The president of OSHRA reopened the facility without permission from the authorities, upon discovery of the illegal residence by the authorities, the organisation was closed. A note to be added the chair of OSHRA reached out to several organisations, with the purpose of advocating for his organisation and getting paid to collaborate with other organisations. And most importantly he identified himself as part of the ((confiscating committee)) and used threatening language, when asked about the nature of the aid and his organisation, which lead to his arrest, for almost 9 months.
Meanwhile, SSO recruited a solicitor to aid in the extraction of the goods from the facility, unfortunately, the latter gave false reports on the proceeding and paperwork being done, and given to the authorities, a continuous delay and unresponsiveness on his part were becoming a habit, this caused further delay. Eventually, a formal letter was written by the SSO chairman to terminate his delegation to the organisation.
Another solicitor was contacted and commenced the paperwork, but was unsuccessful and caused more delay, with no tangible results. Worth mentioning some individuals in HAC are delaying any paperwork concerning the shipment for unknown reasons.
Finally, SSO delegates contacted HAC on the 22nd of June 2022 and explained the situation, HAC had previous knowledge of the whole situation as the chair of OSHRA had previously contacted them after his release, to get hold of the goods. Meanwhile, SSO delegates contacted the General Secretary of the National Council for Child Welfare, who was enthusiastic and keen on aiding the retrieval of the humanitarian aid as some of the aid will be used in Sudan’s amicable settlement expedite justice project in South Kurdufan and the Blue Nile, which targets refugees, IDPs and children suffering from gender-based violence, as part of a collaboration between the Federal

ministry of health, UNFPA, UNICEF and WHO, which as a response will implement some activities in these areas.
HAC personnel wrote a formal letter to the HAC General manager of projects and organisation, requesting a formulation of a committee, to inspect and retrieve the goods to an implementing organisation of SSO's choosing. Now we are waiting on the committee to commence.
4Statement of the Trustee Responsibilities
The Trustees (who are the directors of Sudanese Solidarity Organisation for the purposes of company law) are responsible for preparing the Report of the Trustees and the financial statements in accordance with applicable law and United Kingdom Accounting Standards (United Kingdom Generally Accepted Practice). Company law requires the Trustees to prepare financial statements for each financial year which give a true and fair view of the state of affairs of the charitable company and of the incoming resources and application of resources, including the income and expenditure, of the charitable company for the period. In preparing those financial statements, the Trustees are required to:

1- select suitable accounting policies and then apply them consistently.

2- Observe the methods and principles in the Charity SORP.
-
3- M ake judgements and estimates that are reasonable and prudent.
-
4- Prepare the financial statements on the going concern basis unless it is inappropriate to presume that the charitable company will continue in business.
The Trustees are responsible for keeping proper accounting records which disclose with reasonable accuracy at any time the financial position of the charitable company and to enable them to ensure that the financial statements comply with the Companies Act 2006. They are also responsible for safeguarding the assets of the charitable company and hence for taking

reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of fraud and other irregularities. In so far as the Trustees are aware:

1- There is no relevant audit information of which the charitable company’s auditors are aware, and.

2- T he Trustees have taken all steps that they ought to have taken to make themselves aware of any relevant audit information and to establish that the auditors are aware of that information.
5-Challenges
We have faced some challenges.

6- Conclusion
No charity is more important than the people it serves or the mission it pursues. Our Trustees are collectively responsible for our charity and ultimately accountable for everything done by our charity and those representing the charity. Our Trustees actively understand the risks which charities take, and they make sure those risks are properly managed; the higher the risk, the greater the expectation and the more oversight is needed. In a large and complex charity, it is normal for the executive to have significant decision-making authority – but the trustees must still be willing and able to hold the executive to account. We also respond to any call out from asylum seekers and refugees within the UK and outside the UK. Providence of a community facility for Sudanese people and other groups to gather and develop mutually supportive activities and services such as classes, social activities, and provision of support as well as development of mutual understanding of cultures. Our trustee boards effectively lead by

example, we set and own the charity’s values, setting the standard and modeling behaviors that reflect those values, and requiring anyone representing our charity to reflect its values positively. 1192656 Charities must never lose sight of why they exist and must demonstrate how their charitable purpose drives everything they do, and most especially how we respond when things go wrong.
