Marwick Hall 2023/2024 Chair’s Report
The Marwick Hall continues to be a central point for Puttenham Village, with community events held, as well as private hire for birthday parties and societies. It is used exclusively by Puttenham Infant School Monday to Friday, 8.30am - 3.15pm during term time.
The period between April 2023 and March 2024 has brought about significant change for the Hall. After many years of service, the previous committee members have all (but one!) stepped back from their roles, with new members taking over. We are currently a team of five, with a new Chair and Treasurer in place.
We must acknowledge and thank Patrick and Caroline Yarnold, Margaret Forwood and John Webster for their many years of service to the hall, and therefore Puttenham Village. The time and dedication they have given has been invaluable and the sense of community they demonstrated really is second to none. As a new committee, we have big boots to fill to ensure the smooth and safe running of the hall but are grateful for the guidance Jackie Webster continues to provide, until we find our feet and recruit another member to the committee.
Puttenham School is also going through some changes, by joining a local Multi-Academy Trust to benefit staff and pupils alike and ensure the long term viability of this small village school. As our main hirer, we have been liaising with the Good Shepherd Trust and can happily report that a new contract has been agreed, to be in place from 1st May 2024.
We continue to receive bookings for evenings and weekends, and although not inundated with enquiries we do have a steady stream. We will be looking to drive more awareness locally of the hall as a village asset and discuss what is needed/can be done to really best serve the community.
We were fortunate to benefit from a generous donation from Puttenham Bonfire which we are using to look at WiFi installation in the hall (as currently it is a signal deadzone).
We have struggled this year with the cost of energy over the winter - in particular the gas bills. We are therefore increasing the hire fee modestly from 1st April to try and cover these increases. We are also looking at ways to reduce the outgoing spend on heating.
We look forward to bedding in further as a committee, progressing the plans we have discussed and maintaining the hall to the best of our ability.

Puttenham (registered number 3050921 to transfer the Mar¥vick Hall, all cash, and other loose assets and chattels to The Marwick Hall Puttenham Charitable Inrporated Organisation ('CIO'). Prior year income and expenditure figures therefore represent activrty from 2 August 2022 to 31 March 2023.
