Beast ESU & Smugglers ESSU Entered Monopoly Run in London Rock Climbing Course and training held at Scout Lodge ## Queen Scout & Duke of Edinburgh Hikes across the year. All Wales Scout Camp 2022 Scout & Guide Fete return after 2 years Over 350 people undertaking Boating activities throughout the year at the boating Centre. Without you scouting would not happen. The highlights for me this year start of course with Atlantic Adventure, where over 700 young people and 150 volunteers came together to deliver over 40 activities at Atlantic College. This certainly was a great day out for every group and section across the district! As every year, the Scout Fete was another fantastic success after being absent for 2 years. The fete is a great fundraiser for the Barry groups and helps them to support scouting for another year along with showcasing how strong scouting still is. This year’s census was another great success for the district, with an increase of 56 more young people, which is a 9% increase between census taken in 2022 and census taken in 2023. I am sure we will increase our membership numbers again this year. As a district we may not be as active as other districts in terms of district events, which is a credit to how strong all the groups are within the district at running their own programmes, activities and camps. The district and most of the groups are in very good condition with finances and membership numbers, but a number of groups are looking out for more volunteers across a number of roles. Sadly, I don’t have a magic wand to recruit more volunteers, but I know each group has their own ways of recruiting leaders through their pool of parents. Looking forward, I am in my final year now of being District Commissioner and considering the next stage of my scouting journey. Whatever happens I’ll still be as committed as ever, just like the last 9 years. I will continue to grow the Scout Lodge which I’m sure you agree is a great asset to the district, and keep growing the boating centre, again another great asset. Potentially I’d also like to look at organising another Atlantic Adventure in 2024. Again thank you all for supporting me in my role and for supporting scouting in your groups.
